Man Airlifted from Oregon Beach by Coast Guard

The Coast Guard was called out at 12:30 PM by the Charleston Fire Department.

(CHARLESTON, Ore.) - Coast Guard crews preparing for rescue airlift Coast Guard officials reported today that one of their helicopter crews airlifted a man near Charleston, Oregon. It is reported that 39-year old Frank Schneidle sustained injuries while walking along the beach close to the Cape Arago Lighthouse.

Salem Man Arrested on Drug, Gun and Warrant Charges

The suspect was located around 3:30 PM Wednesday at a residence in the 1100 block of Ruge Street NW in Salem, according to Anglemier.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 42-year old Eugene Avery Schott of Salem Salem Police detectives say they arrested a man Wednesday over an assault investigation involving drugs. 42-year old Eugene Avery Schott of Salem was taken into custody at 3:30 PM.

Salem Police Lt. Jim Anglemier says Schott had been involved in a assault incident where he is alleged to have threatened and strike another subject with a firearm.

Weather Conditions Temporarily Close Wilson River Highway

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and drive with caution if traveling through higher elevations.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Oregon Highway 6, the Wilson River Highway, is closed to all traffic until further notice at the summit near mile post 34, after multiple crashes due to winter conditions. Traffic to and from the coast should use U.S. 26, the Sunset Highway.

The Wilson River Highway is closed from mile posts 22 – 34.5, about halfway between Portland and Tillamook, until crews can clear the snow and ice from the road surface. Icy conditions have caused multiple vehicle accidents approaching the coast range summit.

Rare Victory for "Necessity Defense" Seen as Potentially Trend-Setting.

(AMARILLO, Texas) - Courthouse at Amarillo, Texas A Texas patient who uses medical marijuana to treat the symptoms of HIV won acquittal on marijuana possession charges March 25 based on a "necessity defense."

Though such a defense - which requires the defendant to establish that an otherwise illegal act was necessary to avoid imminent harm more serious than the harm prevented by the law he or she broke - has rarely been successful in Texas, the jury took just 11 minutes to acquit 53-year old Tim Stevens. The trial was hotly contested.

Two Suspects Arrested Related to March 22nd Injury Hit-and-Run Investigation

The crash happened on Highway 6 near Tillamook.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - 19-year old Eric Ramirez of NE Portland and 25-year old Carlos Jimenez-Balboa of SE Portland Two suspects were arrested Wednesday night by Oregon State Police (OSP) detectives and troopers related to last weekend's multi-injury hit-and-run crash on Highway 6 near Tillamook.

Sergeant Lane Hendrickson with OSP says using leads developed with the public's help, their investigation led to the arrest of two suspects at the Greyhound bus station in Salem last night at approximately 9:45 PM.

Man Arrested for Listing Baby for Sale on Craigslist

Salem Police say that there is no indication that any infants were in danger in this incident.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Man handcuffed Salem Police say they arrested a 33-year old Dallas man late this afternoon for placing a false advertisement on Craig's List to sell an infant.

Lt. Dave Okada with Salem Police says they were contacted on March 24th over an advertisement that somebody had seen on Craig's List listing an infant for sale. The ad gave a name for interested parties to contact for further information.
