Health Advisory Issued for Water Contact at Oceanside Beach

While these advisories are in effect at Oceanside beach, visitors should avoid wading in nearby creeks or in discolored water, and stay clear of water runoff flowing into the ocean.

(OCEANSIDE, Ore.) - A public health advisory was issued Tuesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Oceanside Beach in Tillamook County.

Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in ocean waters can come from both shore and inland sources such as storm water runoff, sewer overflows, failing septic systems and even animal waste from livestock, pets and wildlife.

College 101 Prepares Students for Higher Education

Each day of the program will be like a typical day of college — including classes, field trips, recreational sports, college fairs, practice interviews, and many other activities throughout the day.

(SALEM, Ore.) - High school students wanting to learn more about the college experience and how to prepare for higher education can attend a new program this summer at Willamette University.

College 101 is a weeklong campus immersion program July 1–7 that will provide high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with the expert information and advice they need to make the right college choices.

Governors Call on President, Congress to Work to Lower U.S. Gas Prices

Oregon currently has the sixth highest average gas prices in the nation, according to the AAA.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski on Tuesday, joined 17 fellow Democratic governors in calling on President Bush to work with Congress to lower record gas prices.

They're urging the president to endorse federal legislation defining and penalizing gas price gouging and ordering federal agencies to pursue violations against companies engaged in gouging.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Memorial Day marks the day set aside to remember our nation's fallen men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Across America, flags will be flown at half-staff in honor to these national heroes.

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial, located on the grounds of the Oregon Veterans' Building at 700 Summer Street N.E., to pay tribute to all of Oregon's fallen servicemembers. The Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial in Salem.

Lane County Man in Critical Condition Following ATV Crash

At this time it doesn’t appear that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash police said.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore. ) - The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a ATV crash that sent a Lane County man to the hospital in critical condition.

Albany Loan a Life Jacket Program Begins Memorial Day

This is the second year of the program.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - The Albany Fire Department will again have their Loan-A-Life Jacket Program beginning Memorial Day weekend and ending Labor Day weekend.

Washington Man Killed Going Wrong Way on I-84

Two other people injured in the crash were taken to Portland hospitals.

(HOOD RIVER, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into Tuesday morning's fatal traffic crash involving a wrong way driver in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 east of Hood River.

At approximately 4:03 AM a 1979 GMC pickup driven by 28-year-old Mathias McConville, from Wapato, Washington was eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near milepost 69 when it collided nearly head-on with a westbound 2006 GMC Yukon.

At the time of the crash the GMC Yukon had just begun to pass a commercial truck towing two trailers.

Longtime Oregon Foster Parent Receives National Recognition

Scio, Oregon resident is honored with 2007 Commissioner's Award.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The federal Administration on Children, Youth and Families honored an Oregon foster parent with the 2007 Commissioner's Award, recognizing his contributions to the safety and protection of abused and neglected children.

Regarded by many as Oregon's father of foster care, Don Darland is one of the founders and current president of the Oregon Foster Parent Association.

He and his wife Vicki, who live in Scio, have been foster parents for 16 years, providing care to more than 50 children.
