(SALEM) - Pea-sized hail covered Salem-area streets and yards this afternoon as a strong spring storm passed over the area.

The falling hail didn’t last long in south Salem, but there were reports of up to an inch on the ground in the hills around west Salem.

Police urge drivers to use extra caution this evening due to the slick roadways from the recent rain and hail.

Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested in Albany

The investigation into this robbery and four other recent armed robberies is on-going. Anyone with any information regarding this robbery or any other robbery is asked to contact the Albany Police Department Detective section at 541-917-7686.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany Police have now arrested both suspects in an armed robbery incident that happened April 30th at 10:20 PM at the Front Street Inn, located at 2300 NE Front Avenue.

Albany Police Captain Eric Carter says the bartender at the Front Street Inn described a woman that came into the bar that night and played video poker for a few minutes before left.

Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff for Fallen Oregon Marine

Peterson was the 87th military service members from Oregon or with close ties to the state killed in the war in Iraq.

(SALEM) - Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff on Friday, in memory of Marine Lance Cpl. Dale Peterson.

Peterson, 20, of Redmond, died Monday, April 23rd, in Falluja, Iraq.

He was a member of the 2nd Combat Engineer battalion of the 2nd Marine Division, based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Report: Nation`s Air Quality Split East-West

Study finds Americans in Eastern U.S. breathing more soot, while stricter local and state controls drop pollution in the West.

(NEW YORK) - For the first time since the American Lung Association began issuing its annual air quality report card, data reveal a split picture along either side of the Mississippi River, as particle pollution (soot)—the most dangerous pollutant—increased in the East but decreased in the West, while ozone (smog) decreased nationwide from peaks reported in 2002.

The number of counties scoring an A grade for ozone levels increased from 82 in 2000 to 145 this year, but particle pollution levels show an ominous trend, with F grades nearly doubling in just one year, according to American Lung Association State of the Air: 2007.

Lake Oswego Police Seek Assault Suspect

The situation involved the assault on a female in the office building lobby at 5800 Meadows Road in Lake Oswego on April 16th.

(Lake Oswego, Ore.) - Lake Oswego Police are looking for a suspect that is alleged to have inappropriately grabbed a female victim from behind on the afternoon of April 16th.

This occurred in the elevator lobby on the first floor of an office building at 5800 Meadows Road in Lake Oswego.

Captain Don Forman with Lake Oswego Police, says he victim had been waiting for the elevator when the door opened, the suspect exited, and the contact occurred.

Police Investigate Fatal Crash Involving Freight Train

Oregon State Police and local emergency responders are on scene as well as Union Pacific Railroad law enforcement personnel.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers are on the scene of a, fatal pedestrian accident reported along Highway 99E near South End Road, north of Canby.

Investigators on the scene say they have been determined the situation was caused by a collision with a Union Pacific Railroad train.

House Approves Predatory Lending Rate Cap

Last year during a special session of the legislature, the House and Senate passed a 36 percent annual interest rate cap on short-term payday loans.

(SALEM) - The House of Representatives today approved a bill to impose a 36 percent interest rate cap on state-regulated consumer loans in Oregon. The bill, HB 2871, provides strong protections for borrowers of the more than 850,000 short-term payday and car title loans issued each year in Oregon.

"In any other area of the law, no legislator would endorse a system that contributes to bankruptcy, divorce and despair. So we shouldn’t do that with consumer loans either,” said House Speaker Jeff Merkley (D-Portland).

Handcuffed Suspect Escapes from OSP Patrol Car

As part of the investigation the trooper returned to the crashed pickup and found three firearms inside, one of which was a shotgun that was reported stolen.

(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - A handcuffed Grants Pass-area man was found Wednesday night after he broke out an Oregon State Police patrol car window and escaped for a brief period of time along Interstate 5 in the Grants Pass area.

At approximately 9:00 PM on Wednesday, an OSP trooper responded to a reported crash on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 54.

On arrival, the trooper found a 1979 Chevrolet pickup that had crashed off Foothill Drive and onto the shoulder of Interstate 5.

Oregon Soldiers Begin Returning Home from Afghanistan

As some soldiers prepare for a homecoming, others receive orders that they will head to Iraq by late summer.

(SALEM) - Almost 900 Oregon National Guard Soldiers are scheduled to return from the largest deployment of Oregon Soldiers since World War II.

The operation encompassed a sixteen month mobilization in Afghanistan. Oregon Guard members served with Oklahoma National Guard soldiers.
