Body Found on Salishan Sandspit at Gleneden Beach

Working in conjunction with the Lincoln County Medical Examiner, investigators will be attempting to make positive identification.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police, with the assistance of United States Coast Guard, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Lincoln County Medical Examiner, are investigating the discovery of an unidentified body found Wednesday morning on the ocean shore of Salishan Spit south of Lincoln City.

On Wednesday, at approximately 7:30 AM a person walking along the beach west of the 200 block of Salishan Drive in the Gleneden Beach area found the body of an adult male along the high tide line.

Parents Invited to Salem-Keizer Internet Safety Workshop Tonight

The Salem-Keizer School District want to help you protect your children from internet crimes.

(SALEM) - The Salem-Keizer School District is holding a series Internet Safety Workshops this month to help parents protect their children from internet crimes.

Internet chat rooms, such as Myspace.com, are a popular social-networking destination for millions of children nationwide.

Unfortunately, these same sites are also popular with sexual predators, cyber bullies and con artists.

Task Force on Salem River Crossing Project to Meet Tonight

Task force meetings are open to the public and include time for public comment.

(SALEM) - A task force comprised of area stakeholders that is considering the Salem River Crossing Project will meet from 5:30-8:00 PM on Wednesday, at ODOT, Region 2 Complex, Building B, Mt. Jefferson Room (455 Airport Road SE, Salem).

The agenda will include a discussion of funding options and context, a presentation on the alternatives development process and finalization of the Evaluation Framework.

The Salem River Crossing Project is being conducted by the City of Salem and ODOT to develop solutions for crossing the Willamette River in the Salem-Keizer metropolitan area.

Fatal Traffic Crash Near Burns Blamed on Fatigue

(BURNS, Ore.) - A Wyoming couple was involved in a single vehicle fatal traffic crash Tuesday morning on Highway 20 nine miles east of Burns that resulted in the death of one person and minor injuries to the driver.

Oregon House Republicans Sore Over Anti-War Bill

(SALEM) - House Republicans joined Democrats in the passage of a bill today that aligns Oregon with other states slowly but surely withdrawing support from the Iraq War. The vote in the House to approve House Joint Memorial 9-A was 33-25.

HJR 9-A opposes the war in Iraq and urges President Bush to reconsider the expansion of troop levels in Iraq, and it urges Congress to halt further funding for the war's escalation.

Vicki Berger(R) of Salem and Brian Boquist(R) of Dallas broke party ranks by siding with the Democrats like Diane Rosenbaum(D) of Portland, in passing the legislation that many say sends a strong message about the growingly unpopular war that has claimed more than 3,200 lives to date.

Keizer Police Identify Suspect in 5 Hour Standoff (UPDATE)

A handgun recovered inside the apartment was seized by Keizer Police.

(KEIZER) - Major police activity in Keizer involving a standoff and evacuations of an apartment complex ended peacefully after five hours today. Police Spokesman Jeff Kuhns says the suspect, a disabled veteran, was transported for mental health care after being taken into custody.

It began Tuesday at 11:04 AM when officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to 5075 10th Avenue NE #102, the New Heritage Village Apartments, in response to a call from the apartment complex manager.

Keizer Stand Off Ends in Arrest

By 4:00 PM the man surrendered to police and was taken to Salem Hospital for a mental evaluation.

(Keizer) - Keizer Police took a 51-year old man into custody after a five-hour standoff today. A neighbor who called police says the man served as a Navy SEAL in the Vietnam War.

The incident began around 11:00 in the morning. The neighbor who called police said the man was suicidal and she was concerned for his safety.

It happened at the New Heritage Village apartments in Keizer, in the 5000 block of 10th Avenue NE.

Willamette Professors Receive National Mathematics Grant

(SALEM) - Two Willamette University math professors have received a $491,400 grant from the National Science Foundation to provide an eight-week summer research experience for math students and teachers.

The grant was recently awarded to Willamette assistant math Professors Inga Johnson and Colin Starr, who are the leaders of the Willamette Valley Consortium for Mathematics Research. The consortium is made up of four Oregon schools: Willamette University, Linfield College, Lewis & Clark College and the University of Portland.
