Oregon State Police Officer`s Association Awards Scholarships

(SALEM) - This year, the Oregon State Police Officers' Association is awarding 23 scholarships to our member's children. After carefully reviewing all applications, the scholarship committee has selected the following winners:

Ralph Springer Memorial Scholarship – Jill Nicole Jeter
(Ralph Springer was a long time Trooper Newspaper Editor who lost his life in an airplane accident)

Scott Lyons Memorial Scholarship – Ana Kaber
(Scott Lyons was killed in the line of duty September 2nd, 1997)

Brett Clodfelter Memorial Scholarship – Ryan Roach
(Brett Clodfelter was killed in the line of duty September 30, 1992)

McKenzie Pass Highway Reopens to Vehicle Traffic

Common Schools Fund Provides $22.7 Million for Oregon Schools

"The State Land Board's financial management approach has turned Oregon's Common School Fund into a stronger, more reliable revenue source for public schools" - Oregon School Board Director Kevin McCann.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) distributed $22,773,500 in earnings from the Common School Fund to Oregon's 198 K-12 public school districts.

Oregon Medicaid Programs to Start Asking for Proof of Citizenship on September 1st

(SALEM) - Oregonians applying for Medicaid programs will be asked to provide evidence of citizenship beginning Sept. 1st, Oregon Department of Human Services officials said today. The requirement is part of a new federal law, the Deficit Reduction Act, passed earlier this year by Congress.

Opening August 9th in North America, a month before the fifth anniversary of the 2001 attacks, the full-length film with Nicolas Cage in the main role tells the true story of two police officers trapped in the rubble of the Twin Towers in New York.

Lane County Health Officials Investigating Cases of Gastrointestinal Illness

The outbreak has been linked to those attending the Faerieworlds Festival held near Veneta.

(EUGENE) - As of 11:00 AM, Thursday, Lane County Public Health officials have received 75 reports of gastrointestinal illness.

Lane County Environmental Health is working with Faerieworlds Festival organizers and interviewing food vendors.

Public Health employees are interviewing cases to provide education to prevent further spread and to gather information which may or may not identify a common source beyond attendance at the festival.

West Coast Gas Prices May Soar After BP Shutdown of Prudhoe Bay Oil Field And Pipeline

Over time, these actions will reduce Alaska North Slope oil production by an estimated 400,000 barrels per day.

(ANCHORAGE, Ak.) - BP Exploration Alaska, Inc. has begun an orderly and phased shutdown of the Prudhoe Bay oil field following the discovery of unexpectedly severe corrosion and a small spill from a Prudhoe Bay oil transit line. Shutting down the field will take days to complete.

The decision follows the receipt on Friday of data from a smart pig run completed in late July. Analysis of the data revealed 16 anomalies in 12 locations in an oil transit line on the eastern side of the oil field.

A pipeline inspection gauge or PIG, is a tool that is sent down a pipeline and propelled by the pressure of the product in the pipeline itself. It is the chief tool used in pigging.

Hotel Charley follows the pair on their expeditions through Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and Guatemala as they, along with a few other experts and some crazy locals, conquer some of the most challenging and awe-inspiring waterfalls in the world.

Multi-Agency Mass Rescue Exercise Wednesday

The exercise involves the simulated capsizing of a vessel with 30 people onboard.

(NEWPORT) - The U.S. Coast Guard will conduct a simulated mass rescue exercise Wednesday beginning at 1:00 PM, in Yaquina Bay.

The scenario for the exercise will simulate a fishing vessel with 30 people onboard capsizing on the Yaquina River.

The drill is designed to exercise and evaluate the ability of the Coast Guard and other agencies to respond to an emergency at sea.
