No. 10 Michigan Ends No. 15 Oregon State's Season

The Beavers finish the season with a 41-23 overall record after garnering their ninth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance.

(ANN ARBOR, Mich. ) - OSU Mia Longfellow A first inning grand slam home run by Michigan freshman Maggie Viefhaus set the tone for the game as the No. 10 ranked Wolverines knocked off No. 15 ranked Oregon State by a 7-0 score in Sunday’s NCAA Regional Tournament championship game.

The Beaver offense was stymied throughout the game by Michigan ace and Salem, Ore., native Lorilyn Wilson (24-6).

Michigan (46-11) advances to the Super Regional to face No. 8 ranked Baylor University.

Oregon State's Men's Golf Season Comes to a Heartbreaking End

Arizona State’s Benjamin Alvarado finished atop the individual leader board with a three-round 18-under 196.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - OSU James Allenby The Oregon State men’s golf team had a strong third round at the NCAA West Regional, finishing with the second-best score in team history, but was unable to advance to the NCAA Championships after falling short in a three-team playoff.

Despite another great round that saw a 5-under 281, the Beavers found themselves in a three way tie for 9th following Saturday’s final round at the par-72 Karsten Golf Course.

OSU, Wake Forest, and East Tennessee State tied at 25-under 839 and competed in a five hole playoff to determine the tie-breaker.

NCAA Softball: LMU Knocks #10 UCLA Out of NCAA Playoffs

(LOS ANGELES) - Megan Ackerman photoMegan Ackerman hit the two biggest home runs of her life on Saturday, leading the LMU softball team to historic wins in the NCAA Regional.

Her grand slam in the top of the sixth inning was the difference in LMU's 5-3 win over UC Santa Barbara in the first elimination game of the day.

She gave the Lions a lead that they would never relinquish with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth as LMU recorded the biggest win in program history, knocking off UCLA, 4-2, and advancing to Sunday's regional final to face Hawaii.

WCC Baseball: Pilots Fall Short to No. 25 Pepperdine, 3-2

The Pilots outhit the Waves 8-7 and get a complete game from junior Given Kutz.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - portland pilots photoJunior pitcher Given Kutz went the distance on the mound and Portland outhit 25th-ranked Pepperdine 8-7, but the Waves defeated the Pilots 3-2 in a West Coast Conference baseball game on Saturday at Joe Etzel Field.

Kutz picks up his third complete game of the season for Portland, which had the tying run on second base when the final out was recorded.

With junior Billy Krause on second and the Pilots (21-29, 7-13 WCC) trailing 3-2 with one out in the ninth, Pepperdine (34-20, 13-7 WCC) reliever Jason Dominguez struck out freshman Clayton Shaw and junior Danny Meier to end the game.

Kevin Harvick Wins NASCAR All-Star Challenge

It was Harvick's first NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge victory.

(CONCORD, N.C.) - NASCAR Kevin Harvick Kevin Harvick captured one of the biggest wins of his career on Saturday night with a thrilling victory in the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge.

The win allowed Harvick to bank $1 million for his efforts as he held off a late charge from last year's winner Jimmie Johnson.

The top-five was rounded out by Mark Martin, Jeff Burton and Tony Stewart.

NCAA D-III Softball: Linfield Rolls Over DePauw, 9-0

Linfield’s Stephanie Rice went 3 for 4, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs.

(SALEM, Va.) - Brittany Miller photoAnother day, another lopsided shutout victory for the Linfield Wildcats at the NCAA Division III Finals.

Brittany Miller fanned six DePauw batters and pitched a three-hitter to lead the Wildcats to a 9-0 six-inning win, sending the Northwest Conference and West Region champions into Sunday’s semifinal matchup against Washington-St. Louis. That game will start at 5:00 PM EDT.

And for the second straight day, Linfield hitters dominated a quality pitcher, racking up 13 hits on Tigers’ starter Megan Soultz, who came into the contest with 151 strikeouts and a glossy 0.78 earned run average.

Curlin Wins Preakness After Thrilling Stretch Duel

Curlin, in only his fifth career start and under regular jockey Robby Albarado, won the run for the Black-Eyed Susans in the very final jump, by just a head.

Curlin’s final time of 1:53.46 tied the Preakness Stakes record for 1-3/16 miles, held jointly by Louis Quatorze (1966) and Tank’s Prospect (1985).

Pac-10 Baseball: Arizona State Blanks Oregon State, 3-0

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - joey wong photoOregon State pitcher Joe Paterson limited seventh-ranked Arizona State, the nation’s highest-scoring team, to three runs in 8 1/3 innings but the 16th-ranked Beavers fell 3-0 in Pacific-10 baseball Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

OSU (36-15, 8-12) brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn’t push across a run.

On Saturday, Paterson largely kept Arizona State in check but the Beavers managed just two hits against a trio of Sun Devil pitchers.

McGowan Leads Oregon State to Regional Championship Game

Brianne McGowan hit two home runs, and had six RBI in the Beavers 11-4 win over Louisville.

(ANN ARBOR, Mich.) - Brianne McGowan photoSenior pitcher Brianne McGowan earned her 100th career victory and helped her own cause by hitting a pair of home runs and totaling six RBI in No. 15 ranked Oregon State’s 11-4 victory over University of Louisville in Saturday night’s NCAA Softball Regional Tournament action.

With the victory, Oregon State (41-22) advances to Sunday’s championship game against No. 10 ranked University of Michigan.

The game is a rematch of the 2004 NCAA Regional Tournament final when the Wolverines earned a berth to the Women’s College World Series.
