NWC Softball: Homerun Lifts Willamette over George Fox

Hale sets Willamette home run record.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - hale photo k_hWillamette University junior first baseman Geneva Hale picked a great time to hit a home run.

With Willamette trailing George Fox University by one run in the top of the seventh inning, Hale blasted a three-run shot to right center, giving the Bearcats the lead on their way to a 7-5 victory on Thursday.

The powerful hit allowed Hale to break the Willamette single season home run record with her seventh homer of the year.

GNAC Softball: WOU Takes Two More from NNU

Western Oregon moves to 11-1 in conference play.

(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - Shannon Prochaska photoWestern Oregon rallied to win the first game and then hung on for a hit-and-error filled second game victory during a softball doubleheader sweep of Northwest Nazarene, 6-2 and 11-9 at the WOU Softball Field.

The victories improved the conference-leading Wolves record to 11-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and they are now 22-18 overall.

The Crusaders fell to 4-25 on the year and to 1-9 in the GNAC.

No. 9 Oregon State Wraps Up Baseball Homestand vs. UNLV

Nevada-Las Vegas comes into the series after being swept by Texas Christian.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - osu player photoOregon State draws the bye in the Pac-10 schedule this week, so the ninth-ranked Beavers will play their final non-conference series of the season when they host Nevada-Las Vegas.

OSU (28-8 overall, 4-5 Pac-10) and UNLV (14-26, 3-9 Mountain West) on Friday at 5:00 PM, Saturday at 1:00 PM and Sunday at 1:00 PM.

The Beavers go into the series trying to return some potency to their offense after scoring six runs last weekend.

During her 2006 junior season, Kollaer batted .328 (19-for-58), including four triples, two doubles, and one home run.

(SALEM) - corban college logoWest Albany senior right-handed pitcher Jennifer Kollaer has signed a Letter of Intent, and becomes the first recruit that first-year head softball coach Michelle Hext has signed for the 2008 season.

Kollaer comes to Corban following a career at West Albany High School where the 5-foot-8 right-hander earned first-team all-league honorable mention as a junior, while also picking up the team's Coaches' Award.

Western Oregon Ranked Seventh in NCAA Division II Poll

(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - wou sports logoThe Western Oregon baseball team is ranked seventh in the first official NCAA Division II west region poll, announced today by the NCAA office.

In 2007, they are 20-15 overall and are 10-2 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, with a five-game lead over Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene.

Meanwhile, the GNAC-leading Western Oregon softball team is not ranked in this week's west region top 10, because they still don't have a .500 record against NCAA Division II opponents.

Oregon Football Spring Game to Benefit Local Food Bank

A year ago, the athletics department was able to donate over 15,000 pounds of food to the local food bank from proceeds of the annual Spring Game.

(EUGENE) - oregon football photoThe University of Oregon will donate all proceeds from admissions to it’s annual football Spring Game to Food for Lane County for the fourth year in a row, according to the Ducks’ head coach Mike Bellotti.

The school’s final football scrimmage of the spring will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 28th, in Autzen Stadium, with an admission of three non-perishable food items per person requested.

Sophomore Melissa Rice picked up her 20th victory of the season.

(EUGENE) - oregon softball photoOregon snapped its three-game losing streak posting a 11-1 victory over visiting Portland State on Wednesday afternoon at Howe Field.

Oregon improves to 38-8 this year and Portland State drops to 18-27.

Freshman Neena Bryant hit the 14th-ranked Ducks’ first grand slam of the season in the bottom of the first to give Oregon an early four-run lead. It was the Placentia, Calif., native’s eighth homer of the year.
