Oregon State Introduces New Men's Hoops Assistant Coach

Francis last served as an assistant coach at Nebraska during the 2005-06 season.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Jerome Francis JrOregon State men’s basketball head coach Jay John quickly filled a vacancy on his coaching staff today, as he introduced Jerome Francis Jr. as a new assistant coach.

Francis has previously been an NCAA Division I head coach and is a long-time assistant.

Francis replaces Jeff Reinert, who has left to take a higher-ranking position of associate head coach at Fresno State.

NWC Softball: Bruins Beat Bearcats with Long Ball, 7-4

Willamette's Molly Barnes ties school record with sixth homer.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - ball goes by k_hWillamette University senior third baseman Molly Barnes tied a school record with her sixth home run of the season, but three George Fox University players hit one homer apiece, as the Bruins defeated the Bearcats, 7-4, in the first game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader at Morse Field.

Rain forced the second game to be suspended with Willamette leading 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning.

Willamette Downs Rival Corban, 8-5

Willamette has clinched the Salem series title for 2007.

(SALEM) - corban baseball k_hSenior right fielder Kelly Gilmore hit a two-RBI double and scored twice, while senior center fielder Sean Anderson hit a two-run double and scored once, leading Willamette University to an 8-5 victory over visiting Corban College at John Lewis Field on Tuesday.

The Bearcats upped their record to 15-18 on the season, including 3-0 in the Salem Series. Corban dropped to 10-26-1.

In Tuesday's win, Willamette pitcher Kelsey Nakata threw four innings of middle relief and allowed just one run on two hits.

NBA: USC Forward Nick Young Declares for NBA Draft

2006-07 team MVP plans to forego his senior season.

(LOS ANGELES) - nick young photoUSC junior guard/forward Nick Young announced today that he has made himself eligible for the 2007 NBA Draft.

Young was the second-leading scorer among Pac-10 players during the 2006-07 season with a 17.5 average and led conference players with 13 games of 20 or more points.

Young's 647 points scored this past season rank as the fourth most ever in a single season by a Trojan.

NBA: NBA Referee Joey Crawford Suspended

Crawford's suspension will cover at least the remainder of the 2006-07 season.

(NEW YORK) - nba logo sportsNBA referee Joey Crawford has been indefinitely suspended for improper conduct toward Tim Duncan during the San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks game on April 15th, it was announced today by NBA Commissioner David Stern.

The conduct included Crawford's assessment of a second technical foul and ejection of Duncan following laughter by the player while he was seated on the bench, and inappropriate comments made to Duncan during the game.

Wolves ink Beeler, Harrison, Mainer, Keifer

(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - wou sports logoWestern Oregon University has announced the signing of four volleyball players, head coach Joe Houck said Tuesday.

Stephanie Beeler (Tillamook), Kalista Harrison (Roseburg), and Mandy Keifer (North Salem) have inked National Letters of Intent to attend Western Oregon.

Kayla Mainer (North Idaho College) is a transfer that prepped at West Valley High School in Spokane.

Vikings Morinaga Named Second Team All-Conference

Her 78.2 strokes per round is a two-stroke improvement over her freshman year.

(PORTLAND) - portland state playerPortland State sophomore golfer Kayla Morinaga was named second team All-Big Sky Conference on Monday as the Vikings begin Conference Championship tournament play.

The Big Sky selected the teams, which included five players on the first team and five on the second team, based on GolfWeek player rankings.

Morinaga was a two-time Big Sky Player of the Week this year and leads the Vikings in scoring average.

OSU Stays at #9 in Latest College Baseball Poll

OSU faces UNLV this weekend.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - joey wong photoOregon State is again ranked No. 9 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN baseball coaches poll.

In this week’s other polls, the Beavers (28-8 overall, 4-5 Pac-10) are ranked No. 8 by Baseball America magazine, No. 11 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, and No. 9 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Oregon State beat Portland last Tuesday and took two of three games from California over the weekend in a Pacific-10 series.

Oregon State Hoops Signs Rickey Claitt

Claitt visited OSU over the weekend and signed a letter-of-intent during his stay.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - jay john photoThe Oregon State men’s basketball team has signed point guard Rickey Claitt of Mineral Area College to a letter-of-intent, head coach Jay John announced Monday.

Claitt (pronounced like KLATT), who is 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, originally hails from Orlando, Fla., and graduated from Edgewater High School in 2005.

He spent the past two years at Mineral Area College, a community college in Park Hills, Mo.
