NWC Softball: Oregon Small College Pitcher Throws No-Hitter

George Fox (5-19, NWC 3-13) hosts Willamette University Saturday.

(NEWBERG) - boxers player photoMiranda McNealy threw a first-game no-hitter and Andrea Bansen followed it with a two-hitter, leading the Pacific University Boxers to a 3-0 and 9-0 doubleheader sweep of the George Fox University Bruins in Northwest Conference softball Friday afternoon at Morse Field.

McNealy (8-2), last week’s NWC Pitcher of the Week, was almost perfect as she allowed only one runner in the opener, walking Nikki Morrison with one out in the 4th inning.

She struck out 12, getting every hitter in the Bruin lineup except leadoff hitter Kerstyn Tsuruda at least once on strikes.

NWC Softball: Wildcats Double Up Lutes, 13-1 and 3-1

The Wildcats have now won six games in a row and are 22-4 for the season.

(TACOMA, Wash. ) - linfield player photoFifth-ranked Linfield ripped 22 hits and took advantage of 10 Pacific Lutheran errors to take a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader from the host Lutes on Friday afternoon at the PLU field.

The Wildcats won the opener, 13-1, with the game ending in the sixth inning because of the eight-run rule.

The second contest was much closer, but Linfield scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning to grab a 3-1 victory.

PCSC: Vikings, Hornets Split PCSC Twinbill Friday

Freshman C Brandi Scoggins went 3-for-3 in Friday's nightcap.

(PORTLAND) - psu logoJunior right-hander Mandy Hill pitched a five-hit shutout to lead Portland State (16-20, 1-1 PCSC) to a 3-0 win in game one, while sophomore left fielder Rachel Miles’ three-run double broke a 2-2 tie and lifted Sacramento State (9-24, 1-1 PCSC) to a 5-3 win in the nightcap as the two teams split a Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Erv Lind Stadium.

The two teams will conclude the four-game series with a twinbill Saturday at Erv Lind Stadium, scheduled for noon.

Pac-10 Softball: Oregon State Rallies to Defeat Oregon, 9-7

McGowan improved her all-time record against Oregon to a perfect 6-0.

(EUGENE) - osu player photoBrianne McGowan hit a pair of home runs and sophomore DeAnn Young had a seventh inning 2-RBI single to lead No. 17 ranked Oregon State to a 9-7 come-from-behind victory over No. 10 Oregon in Friday’s softball Civil War as presented by the Northwest Dodge Dealers.

The win was the eighth straight for the Beavers (29-11; 3-1 Pac-10) in the series against the Ducks (36-5; 2-2 Pac-10) and moved Oregon State within one victory of clinching the 2006-07 Northwest Dodge Dealers Civil War Series.

The back-and-forth thriller was all Oregon at the on-set as UO scored a pair of runs in the opening inning.

Gillispie Takes Over Kentucky Men's Basketball Program

Gillispie led Texas A&M to a school record 27-7 record this season.

Gillispie agreed to a seven-year contract with the financial terms of the deal to be released at a later date.

In just three seasons at Texas A&M, the three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year engineered one of the most amazing turnarounds in college basketball history, leading ESPN’s Steve Lavin, among others, to christen him a “miracle worker.”

Gators to Celebrate Second Straight National Championship Tonight

A season highlight video will be unveiled while the Gators will also be presented with the Siemen's national championship trophy.

(GAINESVILLE, FL) - uf photoThe University of Florida will celebrate its second straight national championship in men's basketball on Friday night at 6:30 PM in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

The Gators finished the season with a 35-5 mark, setting a school record for wins, while becoming the first team in 15 years to repeat as national champions.

The first 1,000 UF students on hand will receive free t-shirts, courtesy of Pepsi.

WCC Baseball: Gruener’s Complete Game Propels Pilots Past Gonzaga

Portland sets a season-high with 18 hits in a 9-1 win over the Bulldogs.

(PORTLAND) - up player photoPortland junior lefthander David Gruener went the distance and the Pilots exploded for a season-high 18 hits in a 9-1 win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a West Coast Conference baseball game on Thursday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field.

Freshman C.J. Cullen, who was one of three Pilots with three hits, scored four times and knocked in a pair.

The Pilots even their record at 14-14 overall and 2-2 in the WCC. Gonzaga drops to 18-16 (2-2 WCC).

Portland State Relay Smashes School Record

Portland State came within seconds of placing fifth as Oklahoma Baptist came across in a time of 8:57.43.

(AUSTIN, TX) - psu logoPortland State’s women’s 4x800-meter relay team placed eighth in a school record time of nine minutes during the Vikings first day of competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Thursday.

The time edged Kansas, which finished ninth by .45 of a second and topped a Viking previous best of 9:24.96 set in 2004.

Texas won the race in 8:36.49 followed by Baylor (8:41.63), LSU (8:45.76) and UCLA (8:52.10).

Oregon Men's Basketball Year in Review: Another Elite 8

Oregon was the only school in the country to have defeated three different top 10 teams this year.

(EUGENE) - oregon team photoOne of the best seasons in Oregon basketball history came to an end with an 85-77 loss to eventual NCAA Champion Florida in the Midwest Regional final, but not before the Ducks set a number of impressive team and individual benchmarks.

Oregon’s 29 wins were tied (with the 1938-39 NCAA Champions) for the second-most in school history.

Aaron Brooks won the 2006-07 Pac-10 scoring title to become Oregon’s first league scoring champion since Terrell Brandon averaged a school-record 26.6 points per game in 1990-91.
