(ELLENSBURG, Wash.) - wou player photoBrianne Dieringer tossed a four-hit shutout in game one and Krysta Pennington blasted a grand slam homer in the nightcap as Western Oregon swept a softball doubleheader from Central Washington on Thursday at Tomlinson Field, 6-0 and 6-4.

Dieringer shut down the GNAC's leading offensive team, allowing only four hits, no walks and she fanned three Wildcat batters.

Pac-10 Baseball: No. 8 Oregon State Back Home to Face USC

(CORVALLIS) - osu player photoAfter spending seven of the season’s first nine weekends on the road, Oregon State gets its longest homestand of the season as the eighth-ranked Beavers play their next 10 games at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

OSU (23-6 overall, 0-3 Pacific-10) opens that run in its own ballpark when it plays Southern California (18-12, 1-2) in a Pac-10 series Thursday at 5:00 PM, Friday at 5:00 PM and Saturday at noon.

Oregon State Launches New New OS Logo and Brand Identity

CLC and Nike have partnered to launch the new “OS” apparel which is has an April target for availability at retail.

(CORVALLIS) - new osu logoOregon State University has announced an enhanced brand identity system to represent OSU’s athletic teams on the fields and courts.

The new look is a result of a collaborative effort between the University, Collegiate Licensing Company and Michael Morrow of Morrow Creative Group.

The new identity system establishes a distinctive and consistent font type in addition to a new “OS” logo.

Oregon, Oregon State Meet in Softball Civil War

Oregon State (28-11, 2-1) enters this weekend ranked 17th nationally.

(EUGENE) - oregon team photoThrow the rankings and records out the window, this is the Civil War series, and bragging rights are on the line.

Oregon, currently ranked 10th in the nation, gets to host the Beavers in the first two contests of the three-game series, beginning at 3:00 PM, Fri., at Howe Field.

The second game will be played at 1:00 PM, on Sat., with the third and possible series-deciding game is set for Wed., April 25th in Corvallis.

MLB News: Casto Called Up to the Bigs, Scheduled to Start for Washington

The Washington Nationals add former Pilot standout Kory Casto to the big league roster

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - casto photoFormer Portland Pilots standout Kory Casto received the phone call of a lifetime on Tuesday as the Washington Nationals recalled the outfielder from Triple-A Columbus with plans to start him in left field against the Florida Marlins tonight.

Casto will be the Nationals’ regular left fielder in Nook Logan’s absence.

The Nationals placed Logan on the 15-day disabled list after he collided with the center-field wall and jammed his foot during Washington’s opening-day game against Florida on Monday. Logan is expected to miss three weeks.

Western Oregon Begins Spring Football Drills

The Wolves finished 6-4 in 2006.

(MONMOUTH) - wou logoThe 2007 football season got underway on Wednesday, when spring practice began for the Western Oregon University Wolves.

The Wolves, under third-year head coach Arne Ferguson, will practice three days a week through the month of April.

Ferguson’s group will practice from 3:00-6:00 PM each day. All practices are open to the public.

Grambling State and Legendary College Football Coach Eddie Robinson Passes Away

(GRAMBLING, Louisiana) - Eddie Robinson photoSurrounded by family and friends, former Grambling State University football coach, Eddie G. Robinson, Sr. passed Tuesday evening at Northern Louisiana Medical Center (formerly Lincoln General Hospital) in Ruston, Louisiana after a lengthy illness.

Robinson won 17 championships in his conference (SWAC), held the championship title 9 times for Black Colleges and creatively established a streak of 27 consecutive winning seasons 1960-86.

Oregon State's Lanz, Smith Earn Pac-10 Gymnastics Honors

This marks the second time Smith and Lanz have been honored as all-conference gymnasts.

(CORVALLIS) - osu logoOregon State sophomores Jami Lanz and Tasha Smith and freshman Mandi Rodriguez were named to the Pacific-10 All-Conference Women’s Gymnastics team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Lanz, from Eugene, Ore., and Smith, from Auburn, Wash., received recognition as all-arounders and Rodriguez, from Baldwin Park, Calif., was honored for her efforts on vault.

Corban Inks Quintet of Soccer Recruits for 2007 Season

Corban ended last season with an overall record of 7-11-1, 5-4-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

(SALEM) - corban soccer k_hTwelfth-year head coach Marty Ziesemer announced today that he has signed five players for the upcoming 2007 season, including a pair of Oregonians, two players from the state of Washington, and a player out of the state of California.

The five recruits that have signed Letters of Intent for the upcoming season are Kelly Yount (Silverton, Ore.), Miranda O'Connor (Gladstone, Ore.), Erin Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.), Sheree Kuehl (Seabeck, Wash.), and Melissa Malone (Lake Forest, Calif.).
