GNAC Softball: Western Oregon Sweeps Northwest Nazarene

(NAMPA, Idaho) - wou player photoKrystal Pennington had six hits and drove in eight runs and Brianne Dieringer pitched nine shutout innings as Western Oregon swept a softball doubleheader from Northwest Nazarene, 10-0 and 14-7 on Saturday at Halle Field in Nampa.

The Wolves, who have now won six straight games, improved to 6-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and to 17-16 overall.

Northwest Nazarene fell to 2-17 on the year and 1-6 in conference play.

CCC Volleyball: Corban Inks Trio for 2007 Season

The women's volleyball team will begin the 2007 season at the annual Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival on August 31st.

(SALEM) - corban coach photoFirst-year Corban head women's volleyball coach Heather Dunn has signed a trio of seniors for the upcoming 2007 season, which marks her first-ever set of recruits as the leader of the Warriors, including two Sprague High School seniors and one transfer from Clackamas Community College.

The trio includes Kristen Eiler (Salem, Ore.), Emily Stupfel (Salem, Ore.), and Margo Wyatt (Dufur, Ore.). Both Eiler and Stupfel from highly-touted Sprague High School, while Wyatt arrives at Corban following a two-year career at Clackamas Community College.

CCC Baseball: NAIA's No. 25 Ranked Coyotes Take Two From Corban

With the losses, Corban is now 10-21-1 overall.

(SALEM) - corban baseball k_hFreshman Matt Schmidt went a combined 2-for-4 on Saturday, as Corban’s baseball team dropped a Cascade Collegiate Conference double-header to the NAIA’s No. 25-ranked Coyotes of Albertson, 9-0 & 6-0, at Warrior Field.

In the opener, Corban junior Jordan Emery began the game hitting two of the first three batters before allowing a 2-run double to the ‘Yotes Adam Roach for the only scoring in the opening inning.

To open the second frame, Emery plunked the first two batters before allowing a bunt single to Albertson’s Kent Bradshaw, which loaded the bases.

Warriors - Beacons Split Softball Doubleheader

With the split, the Warriors hold a 4-26-1 overall record.

(SALEM) - warriors logoJunior Lindsay Batey smacked her team-leading eighth home run of the season on a three-run shot in Saturday's night cap, helping lead Corban's softball team in a non-conference double header split with the Beacons of Northwest Christian, 3-7 & 6-5.

In the opener, both junior Laura Santie and freshman Jessica Pierce went 2-for-3 from the plate, while the latter brought in a RBI to lead the Warriors offensively.

Batey and Santie scored runs in the fourth inning and sophomore Rachel Steigleman scored after reaching base on a single in the final inning, but the Warriors were unable to complete their comeback.

Willamette Women's Varsity 8 Wins at Governor's Cup

In the varsity women's 4+, Willamette was second at 8:06.7, behind Seattle Pacific's time of 7:55.0.

(SALEM) - wu logoThe Willamette University women's varsity 8+ won the prestige event in the women's division of the 2007 Governor's Cup Regatta on Saturday, as the Bearcats finished 15.3 seconds in front of Seatle Pacific University and more than one-half minute ahead of Lewis & Clark College, in competition on the Willamette River in downtown Salem, Ore.

Willamette's WV8+ time of 6:29.90 easily placed the 'Cats at the top of the list. Seattle Pacific clocked in at 6:45.2 and Lewis & Clark was timed at 7:01.1 over the 2,000-meter course.

NAIA's No. 3-Ranked Clan Sweep Corban

Simon Fraser's Becky Hartley went a perfect 6-for-6 with 3 home runs, 5 runs scored, and 9 runs batted in.

(SALEM) - corban softball playerSophomore Rachel Steigleman made her return from the injured reserve list on Friday and went a combined 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs, as Corban's softball team dropped a non-conference twin bill to Simon Fraser, 25-8 & 14-2.

In the opener, the visiting Clan scored three runs in the first inning before Corban tied the game with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the stanza.

Sophomore Megan Gaylord opened the inning with walk, marking the first base runner that the Warriors got against SFU pitcher Jennifer Schreyer this season.

NWC Softball: Willamette - Lewis & Clark Split Doubleheader

Due to wet grounds, the Willamette at George Fox NWC softball doubleheader on Saturday has been postponed. The games will be made up on Tuesday, Apr. 17th, at 2:00 PM in Newberg.

(PORTLAND) - wu nikki franchiWillamette University and Lewis & Clark College split a Northwest Conference doubleheader at the Huston Sports Complex on Friday.

Willamette won the first game 19-8, while L&C downed the Bearcats, 3-2, in the nightcap.

The Bearcats, ranked #25 in this week's NFCA Top 25 Poll for NCAA Division III, ended the doubleheader with a 14-9 overall record, including 8-6 in the NWC.

Willamette's Zerzan Qualifies for Nationals in 5,000-Meter Run

The Willamette Invitational continues on Saturday.

(SALEM) - Sarah Zerzan photoWillamette University junior distance runner Sarah Zerzan qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships with a school record time of 16:28.54 to win the 5,000-meter run fon the first day of the Willamette Invitational at the Charles Bowles Track on Friday.

Zerzan's time was under the automatic qualifying standard of 17:00.00 by more than 30 seconds.

She also broke her own Willamette record, set last year at 17:14.57, by just over 46 seconds.

Oregon's Oguchi to Transfer

For his three-year career, Oguchi scored 571 points in 86 games.

(EUGENE) - Chamberlain Oguchi photoOregon junior guard Chamberlain Oguchi announced Friday that he will transfer from the University of Oregon to a yet-to-be determined college.

Oguchi played in 32 games in 2006-07, starting 10.

He averaged 4.8 points per game and was one of the better free throw shooters on the team at 84.6 percent.
