CCC Softball: Eastern Oregon Takes Two From Corban

(SALEM) - warriors logoSophomore Karlee Sisler and junior Lindsay Batey recorded a pair of RBIs with a home run by Sisler in the opener and a run scoring double by Batey in the night cap, but Corban's softball team fell, 12-1 & 5-2, to the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon at Warrior Field on Saturday.

The two losses drop the Warriors' record to 3-12-1 overall, 1-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Alternatively, the Mountaineers even their conference record at 2-2 and their overall record at 5-5.

No. 12 Oregon Keeps Winning Streak Alive with Sweep of Bengals

The Ducks totaled six home runs on the afternoon.

(EUGENE) - It didn’t take long for 12th-ranked Oregon to put away Idaho State on Saturday at Howe Field.

The Ducks swept the doubleheader, recording a 10-0 victory in the first game and winning the second, 8-0, after freshman shortstop Jenn Salling hit a walk off homer in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early.

NCAA Tournament: No. 4 Rutgers Stuns No. 1 Duke, 53-52

Duke blew a 10-point lead early in the second half.

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - Rutgers LogoDuke's free-throw failure in the final second sent Rutgers to the regional finals.

Epiphanny Prince went coast-to-coast for the go-ahead layup with 20 seconds left and Duke star Lindsey Harding missed two free throws with 0.1 seconds left, preserving fourth-seeded Rutgers' 53-52 upset of the top-seeded Blue Devils on Saturday in the semifinals of the Greensboro Regional.

Matee Ajavon had 20 points for Rutgers, which advances to face Arizona State (31-4) on Monday night with a berth in the Final Four on the line.

NASCAR: Jeff Gordon Takes Food City 500 Pole

(BRISTOL, Tenn. ) - Jeff Gordon captured his fifth pole at Bristol Motor Speedway during Husqvarna Pole Day Friday and will go after his sixth win at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile during Sunday’s Food City 500.

Gordon, driving the Car of Tomorrow’s Chevrolet Impala SS, recorded a lap of 125.452 mph at 15.295 seconds.

Teammates Kasey Kahne (125.313) and Elliott Sadler (125.183) will start second and third respectively, followed by Tony Stewart (125.117) and Jamie McMurray (124.906).

NWC Baseball: Willamette-Whitworth Series Delayed till Sunday Due to Weather

The Bearcats, who have won five of their last six games, are 8-10 on the season, 2-6 in the NWC.

(SALEM) - willamette logoThe start of Willamette University's home baseball series against Northwest Conference opponent Whitworth College at John Lewis Field has been delayed by one day in an attempt to avoid bad weather in Saturday's forecast.

The series has been rescheduled to start on Sunday, with a doubleheader at noon.

Willamette and Whitworth will complete the three-game set on Monday, with a game at noon.

Corban Opens CCC Softball Season with Split

(SALEM) - corban logoCorban's softball team ended Albertson's five game winning streak on Saturday behind sophomore Erin Sailors' 13 strikeouts in the opening win and junior Lindsay Batey launched her team-best fourth home run of the season in the nightcap as the teams split, 6-5 and 1-7.

With the opening 2007 Cascade Collegiate Conference season split, the Warriors' record stands at 1-1, 3-12-1 overall.

Likewise, the 'Yotes begin the conference season at 1-1, while their overall record moves to 13-7.

Willamette's Zerzan Breaks Automatic Qualifying Mark by 40 Seconds in 10,000-Meter Run

Zerzan won the 2006 NCAA Division III women's cross country individual national title this past fall.

(SALEM) - willamette logoSarah Zerzan of Willamette University achieved an automatic qualifying mark in the 10,000-meter run at the Charles Bowles Spring Break Classic to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III National Championships, set for May 24th-26th at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Zerzan's time was 35:20.17, nearly 40 seconds under the automatic qualifying standard of 36:00.00, as she set a new Willamette University record by 43.47 seconds.

The old record of 36:03.64 was set by Danya Rumore in 2004.

NCAA Tournament: Oregon Holds Off UNLV to Advance to Elite Eight

#3 Oregon plays #1 Florida at 11:40 AM PT on Sunday.

(ST. LOUIS) - Oregon logoTajuan Porter, the little guy nobody wanted, has Oregon one game away from the Final Four.

The 5-foot-6 freshman tied an NCAA regional record with eight 3-pointers and finished with 33 points, and Oregon withstood a frantic comeback to top seventh-seeded UNLV 76-72 on Friday in the Midwest Regional.

The third-seeded Ducks advanced to play top-seeded Florida on Sunday.
