Kansas to Promote Jayhawk Legend Danny Manning to Assistant Coach

Manning will replace Tim Jankovich, who was named head coach at Illinois State on Tuesday.

(SAN JOSE) - Salem-News.com SportsKansas head basketball coach Bill Self announced Tuesday that KU legend Danny Manning will be promoted to assistant coach at the conclusion of the 2006-07 season.

A member of the Kansas basketball staff since Self's arrival in 2003-04, Manning has served as director of student-athlete development/team manager at Kansas for the past four seasons.

Manning is Kansas' all-time leading scorer and rebounder, racking up 2,951 points and 1,187 boards in his illustrious four-year career.

NCAA Men's Golf: Oregon Set to Host Oregon Duck Invitational

Action will begin at 8:00 AM each day with a shotgun start. The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.

(EUGENE) - Oregon returns to Eugene to host its annual Oregon Duck Invitational, Monday and Tuesday at the Eugene Country Club.

The format, where six golfers from a team will participate and the best four scores are counted, is a slight departure from the traditional five-count-four scoring that is the norm in college golf.

Defending champion San Diego State and Pacific will join the 10 Pac-10 schools to comprise the 12-team field.

NAIA Softball: Linfield Takes Two From Corban

The third-ranked Wildcats lived up to their billing, raising their season record to 10-2, while Corban drops to 2-12-1.

(McMINNVILLE) - Corban's softball team ran into the NCAA Division III's No. 3-ranked Wildcats of Linfield on Tuesday and fell, 5-0 & 11-0, at the Linfield softball diamond despite a pair of hits by sophomore Megan Gaylord in the twin bill.

Corban sophomore starter Erin Sailors tossed a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts, but Linfield took advantage of its speed on the base paths to chalk up eight stolen bases.

NAIA Baseball: Corban Wins Fourth Straight

With the win, Corban improves to 9-12-1 overall.

(SALEM) - Senior Brett Timmerman recorded the game-winning hit -- a single up the middle -- that scored a pair of runs in the 8th inning, as Corban's baseball team defeated fellow NAIA member Simpson, 5-3, to earn its fourth straight victory at Warrior Field on Tuesday.

First-year head coach Nate Mayben used eight different pitchers, as senior Zeke Clayton got the start and allowed the game's first two runs in the top of the first, as Simpson used four singles en route to producing the two spot on the board.

NCAA Tournament: #5 USC Looks for Sweet Upset of #1 North Carolina

USC's defeat of No. 11 Texas gives the Trojans a 8-4 record vs. Top 25 teams this season.

(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) - The No. 5 seed USC men's basketball team (25-11) will face No. 1 seed North Carolina (30-6) on Friday at the Continental Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. in the East Region semifinals of the 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

USC defeated Texas 87-68 on March 18th in Spokane, Wash. to advance to the East Region semifinals.

North Carolina defeated Michigan State 81-67 in its second-round game on March 17th.

NCAA Baseball: Pilots Fall to Washington

Pilots take an early lead, but the Huskies prevail 14-5.

(PORTLAND) - The Washington Huskies scored six runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 14-5 win over the Portland Pilots in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field.

The Pilots claimed a 3-2 lead after four innings, but the Huskies scored 12 runs during the next three innings en route to the victory.

Vikings Hill Named PCSC Pitcher of the Week

In addition, Hill hit .400 at the plate, going 8- for-20 with two home runs and seven RBI.

(BAKERSFIELD, Calif.) - Portland State junior right-hander Mandy Hill has been named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 12th-18th, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Hill made six appearances, including four starts, last week, posting a 4-2 record with a 1.50 ERA.

Oregon State's Perry Selected for Lombardi Watch List

Perry is one of 43 candidates on the preliminary list.

(HOUSTON) - Oregon State University junior offensive guard Jeremy Perry has been selected for the second straight year to the Rotary Lombardi Watch List, it was announced Tuesday.

Perry, a 6-2 313-pound native of Hau’ula, Hawaii, was one of three Beavers to be selected to the 2006 Pac-10 Conference First Team and was the Co-Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2005.

NCAA Tournament: #1 Kansas - #4 Southern Illinois Sweet 16 Game Preview

The Salukis defeated Virginia Tech 63-48 to advance to the Sweet 16.

(SAN JOSE) - No. 1 seed Kansas (32-4) has advanced to the NCAA Championship Sweet 16 for the 24th time in school history and the second time under head coach Bill Self.

The Jayhawks are coming off an 88-76 win against Kentucky, in capturing its 75th all-time victory in the NCAA Tournament.

KU will play No. 4 seed Southern Illinois (29-6), Thursday, at 4:10 PM (Pacific) at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

At 32-4, the Jayhawks have posted the most school victories since the 2002 team went 33-4 and advanced to the Final Four in Atlanta.
