Oregon State's Wagner to Transfer

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State women’s basketball student-athlete Judie Lomax has decided to transfer, announced head coach LaVonda Wagner on Tuesday.

"We respect Judie's decision to be closer to her family,” said Wagner. “We wish her all the best in her future academic and athletic endeavors."

As a freshman during the 2006-07 season, Lomax averaged 10.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. The Potomac, MD native played in 28 games for the Beavers.

NCAA Football: National Champion Florida Visits White House

The 2006 Gator football team was UF's sixth national championship team to visit The White House.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The University of Florida football team traveled to Washington, D.C. on Monday to meet with President George W. Bush on the South Lawn of the White House.

The Gators were invited to the nation’s Capitol to take part in a ceremony to honor the 2006 National Championship squad.

The festivities included a photo opportunity on the South Lawn, where President Bush was presented with a #43 Gator jersey from Coach Urban Meyer.

Bruins’ Campbell Named Second Team All-West Region by D3hoops

Campbell was the Bruins’ top scorer seven times and top rebounder 12 times.

(NEWBERG) - Northwest Conference women’s basketball Player of the Year Katy Campbell of George Fox University has been named to the 2006-07 NCAA Division III All-West Region Second Team as selected by D3hoops.com, the foremost internet website for Division III college basketball.

Campbell, a 6-1 junior forward from Springfield, Ore., and Thurston High School, enjoyed an outstanding season in which she averaged 11.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting .491 from the field and .795 from the free throw line. ).

She reached double figures in scoring 15 times and in 10 rebound times, with five double-doubles.

NCAA Tournament: #3 Oregon - #7 UNLV Sweet 16 Game Preview

(LAS VEGAS) - UNLV logoAfter defeating 10th-seeded Georgia Tech, 67-63, on Friday and second-seeded Wisconsin, 74-68, on Sunday in the NCAA Tournament’s first and second rounds in Chicago, the UNLV men’s basketball team will be making its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1991 as it will travel to St. Louis for the Midwest Regional.

UNLV, ranked 19th and 18th, in the AP and Coaches’ polls respectively, is a No. 7 seed and will face third-seeded and 10/12th-ranked Oregon on Friday at approximately 6:40 PM PT (30 minutes after the Florida/Butler game) at the Edward Jones Dome in the regional semifinal.

PDL: Cascade Surge Sign with Puma

The Surge also announced a new VP, new youth partnership, and home opening schedule.

(SALEM) - Cascade Surge players on the field in a game last JulyThe Cascade Surge, Oregon's only PDL soccer franchise, has signed a multi-year deal with Puma.

Twelve of the twenty-four World Cup finalists in 2006 wore Puma, including Italy, the World Champions.

Mike Speten has come on board as the new Vice-President/Development for the Cascade Surge.

The Surge is pleased to announce that they have entered into an agreement with the Keizer Soccer Club (KSC).

The Surge staff and players will help oversee and run training programs for the Keizer SC coaches and players.

WNIT Sends Oregon to Wyoming for Third Round

The Ducks and Cowgirls have met only once before with Oregon winning 63-33 at home in 1998.

(EUGENE) - Tamika NurseThe University of Oregon women’s basketball team is headed to Laramie, Wyo., for its third round game on Thursday in the postseason WNIT.

The Ducks (17-13) and Cowgirls (23-9) will play at 6:00 PM Pacific to determine a berth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

Oregon, which received a bye in the first round, won 70-54 over UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, improving to 11-1 all-time in WNIT play.

NCAA Baseball: Beavers Canham on Watch List for Bench Award

Canham was drafted in the 41st round by the St. Louis Cardinals but opted to return to Oregon State for the 2007 season.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State catcher Mitch Canham is one of 27 catchers from across the country on the watch list for the Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award, given annually to the nation’s top catcher in NCAA Division I college baseball.

Canham, a junior, is batting .382 with four home runs and 25 runs batted in for the fourth-ranked Beavers (20-3 overall); he has a slugging percentage of .618 this season and an on-base percentage of .517. Canham was a Preseason All-America pick by Collegiate Baseball newspaper (second team) and Baseball America magazine (third team).

In 2006, Canham helped OSU to the national championship by batting .299 with seven home runs and 54 runs batted in.

NCAA Baseball: Oregon State Climbs to #4 in Baseball Rankings

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State moved up one place to No. 4 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN national baseball coaches poll.

The Beavers (20-3 overall) have won nine straight games after sweeping San Francisco in a three-game series this past weekend.

In the other rankings released Monday, OSU moved up one spot to fourth in the Baseball America magazine rankings, up two spots to third in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll, and up one spot to fourth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.

Pilots Kutz Named WCC Pitcher of the Week

Kutz leads the Pilots this year in wins and strikeouts (35).

(SAN BRUNO, Calif. ) - Portland Pilots junior pitcher Given Kutz was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after recording his second complete game of the season and first career shutout in an 8-0 win over Utah on Friday.

Kutz struck out 14 Utes, the most strikeouts in a game by a Portland pitcher since 1990 and tied for the third highest single-game total in school history.

Kutz is the second UP pitcher to earn conference weekly honors this year.
