NBA: Blazers President, GM Steve Patterson Resigns

Immediate search begins for a team General Manager and new President of Business Operations.

(PORTLAND) - Vulcan Inc. announced Thursday that Tod Leiweke will assume management oversight for Trail Blazers Inc., which operates the Portland Trail Blazers franchise in the National Basketball Association.

It was also announced that Steve Patterson has resigned as President and General Manager of the Portland Trail Blazers, effective immediately.

Leiweke announced that an immediate search would be conducted to name a team General Manager and find a new President of Business Operations

McKay, South Salem Win 6A Playoff Openers

(SALEM) - Salem-News.com SportsThe Central Valley Conference went 2 for 4 in opening round games of the OSAA 6A Boys Basketball Tournament.

CVC champion McKay and number two seed South Salem picked up victories, while Redmond and Sprague saw their seasons come to an end.

Former NFL Coach Jerry Glanville To Lead Portland State

For the past two seasons, Glanville has been the defensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii.

(PORTLAND) - Portland State University announced the hiring of Jerry Glanville as its new head football coach on Wednesday.

Glanville will be the 12th head coach in the history of the program, as it begins its 61st season of football in 2007.

He replaces former coach Tim Walsh, who left Portland State on Feb. 16th to be the new offensive coordinator at Army.

Corban Draws Sterling in Opening Round of NAIA DII Tournament

Heading into the national tournament, Corban is riding an 11-game winning streak.

(SALEM) - The Corban's women's basketball team has drawn the NAIA's No. 9-ranked Lady Warriors of Sterling (Kan.) in an opening round game of the 2007 Division II tournament on Thursday, March 8th, at 9:15 PM (CST).

The Warriors will be playing the final game of the first round and would have twenty-four hours between first and second round games.

As a 6th seed, Corban drew the 3rd seed in its bracket with the nation's No. 2-seeded College of the Ozarks (Mo.) sitting as a potential quarterfinal opponent.

Beavers Close Regular Season at #17 Oregon

The Beavers lead the all-time series against the Ducks, 180-146.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU Beavers logoThe Oregon State men’s basketball team (11-19, 3-14 Pac-10) closes out the regular season with a trip down the road to Eugene and the 327th edition of the hardwood Civil War, presented by the Northwest Dodge Dealers.

A Beaver win on Saturday would erase a bunch of negative figures: 13 straight losses at McArthur Court, nine straight losses to ranked Oregon teams and an 0-9 record against ranked teams this year, to name a few.

The Oregon game will be televised by the Oregon Sports Network, which includes KEZI-9 in Eugene and KRCW-32 in Portland/Salem.

Pilots Win Thriller at Washington

The Pilots finished with 17 hits, including four doubles, a triple and a home run.

(SEATTLE) - The University of Portland baseball team picked up a 13-11 victory over the Washington Huskies Tuesday afternoon on a cold and rainy day in Seattle. The Pilots improve to 4-3 on the year while the Huskies fall to 1-6.

It was easily Portland’s best game of the year from the plate as they recorded season highs in nearly every offensive category.

Junior rightfielder Corey Wiltshire had his best game of the season, going 2-6 with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Oregon Announces Football Staff Changes

(EUGENE) - University of Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti has announced a realignment of his football staff that includes the reassignment of long-time assistant head coach Neal Zoumboukos as well as the return of Tom Osborne as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.

The 46-year-old Osborne spent the last six seasons as the assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Arizona State after coordinating Oregon’s specials teams and tutoring its tight ends from 1995 through 2000.

Zoumboukos has accumulated 27 years as an Oregon assistant coach -- the longest continuous tenure of any assistant coach in the Pac-10 Conference.

Oregon Women Finish Ninth at Fresno State Invitational

Freshman Kate Hildahl shot a 73 on Tuesday for the Ducks.

(FRESNO, Calif.) - The No. 42-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team capped the second and final round of the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational in ninth place Tuesday, held at the Copper River Country Club.

The Duck women shot a 21-over 309 for the second straight day for a two-round score of 618 and ended 22 strokes back of team champion and host Fresno State (299-297-596).

First-day leader UC Irvine followed two strokes back in second place (297-301-598), followed by No. 49 Hawaii (third, 303-296-599), Long Beach State (fourth, 306-299-605) and Kansas State (fifth, 314-295-609).
