Oregon Wins 15th Straight with 6-0 Victory over USD

Oregon made the most of 10 singles and six stolen bases.

(SAN DIEGO) - The 25th-ranked University of Oregon softball team came up with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and Elmira junior Alicia Cook scattered six hits and struck out three to fuel the Ducks’ 6-0 shutout over the University of San Diego in the Aztec Invitational played at the San Diego State Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.

The Ducks’ 15th-straight win improved their season record to 15-1 as they surpassed the previous school record of 14 wins in a row set during the 2004 season.

Cook, who improved her record to 9-1, did not give up any walks and allowed no more than one base runner in any one inning.

Cal State-East Bay Downs Willamette, 9-1

For Willamette in the three-game series, Kyle Stalker was 3 for 12 with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

(HAYWARD, Calif.) - Willamette was about to start the long bus trip back from Calfiornia, when Cal State-East Bay decided the baseball field was playable, so the teams played their scheduled game on Sunday after all.

CSU-East Bay won the game, 9-1.

Willamette fell to 3-5 on the season. CSU-East Bay improved to 9-3 overall and to 6-1 at home.

PSU Women Place Third, Men Ninth at Big Sky Indoor Championships

(BOZEMAN, Montana) - Portland State’s women fell short of their first ever team title at the NCAA Division I level, placing third with 99.5-points, Saturday at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships.

Weber State topped the women with 108.5-points followed by Idaho State, who had 107.5. Northern Arizona, the 2006 champion, came in fourth with 94-points.

On the plus side, senior Utica Edgecombe won Portland State’s second conference title in as many days, placing first in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.03-seconds.

Oregon Golfers Head South for Fresno State Invite

(EUGENE) - The No. 44-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team looks forward to its second stop of the spring season at the Fresno State Invitational, Mon.-Tue., Feb. 26th-27th, at the Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.

Oregon is one of five highly-ranked squads in the 16-team field along with No. 12 Denver, No. 41 UC Irvine, No. 47 New Mexico State and No. 48 Hawaii.

Other teams slated to play include Boise State, Colorado, Eastern Washington, Long Beach State, Nevada, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, UC Davis, Kansas State and Santa Clara.

Oregon Whips Davidson, 14-1

Oregon outshot Davidson by a 31-6 margin.

(DAVIDSON, N.C. ) - Kate Fleming had five goals and Ilsa van den Berg had her third hat trick of the year as the No. 20 Duck women's lacrosse team rolled to a 14-1 victory over the Davidson Wildcats in a non-conference match played Sunday afternoon.

Coming off a tough loss to the No. 1 University of North Carolina, the Ducks needed to make a statement and they would in a big way.

Texas Wins Pitcher`s Duel with OSU, 2-0

Meagan Denny had 10 strikeouts for Texas.

(CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.) - No. 6 ranked Oregon State dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 10 ranked University of Texas in Sunday’s final softball game at the Palm Springs Classic.

The game shaped up to be a pitcher’s duel from the start, between Oregon State’s Brianne McGowan and Texas’s Meagan Denny.

Both McGowan and Denny breezed through the opposing batters through out much of the contest.

NLL: LumberJax Rally Halted by Colorado, 13-7

(DENVER) - The Portland LumberJax (2-8) were devastated on the road in Denver, Colo. Saturday night, falling to the Colorado Mammoth (9-1) by a score of 13-7.

The Jax were led by defenseman Richard Morgan who scored three goals for a hat trick at the Pepsi Center in front of 18,024 fans.

Portland’s newest defenseman, Darren Reisig (1G, 1A), scored the first goal of the game on a power-play opportunity at 4:01.

George Fox Rallies from 17 Down to Win NWC Title

(NEWBERG) - Down by 17 points early in the second half, the George Fox University Bruins mounted a furious second-half comeback to stun the University of Puget Sound Loggers 58-51 in the Northwest Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament championship game Saturday night at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

It was the third win of the season for the Bruins over the Loggers in a match-up of regular-season NWC co-champions.

George Fox improved to 18-6 and earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament which starts next week.
