Armirola Wins Daytona NASCAR Busch Series Pole

Jason Leffler gave Toyota a front row start in the manufacturer's first Busch Series race.

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) - Aric Armirola started the season off on a positive note Friday winning the pole for Saturday's Orbitz 300 Busch Series season opener.

Almirola turned in a lap of 183.741 mph in his Joe Gibbs Racing Chevrolet to claim the Bud Pole.

Walsh Leaves Portland State for Army

Defensive coordinator Greg Lupfer has been named the interim head coach.

(PORTLAND) - Salem-News.com SportsPortland State Head Football Coach Tim Walsh will be leaving the Park Blocks after 14 seasons as he has accepted the position of offensive coordinator at Army.

Walsh will work for new Head Coach Stan Brock, a former Portlander and long-time friend.

He directed four teams to the NCAA playoffs and became the winningest football coach in school history.

(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that season ticket renewals for the 2007 Beaver football season are available online.

Season ticket holders from the 2006 season will be receiving an email with a link to the online application.

Western Oregon Falls to UC San Diego

(PHOENIX, Ariz.) - Western Oregon University Wolves logoWestern Oregon struck first for an early lead but UC San Diego rallied back to take a 3-1 softball win at the Triple Crown Division II Lead-Off Classic in Phoenix on Friday morning.

The Wolves, now 0-3 at the tournament and on the season, will play in the Bronze Bracket for the next two days.

Eagles` Three-Point Attack too Much for Vikings

(CHENEY, Wash. ) - Salem-News.com SportsEastern Washington went 10-of-16 from three-point range, including five from senior guard Joanna Chadd en route to a game-high 19 points as the Eagles defeated Portland State 80-61 in a Big Sky Conference game Thursday evening at Reese Court.

With the win, Eastern Washington (8-15, 3-9 Big Sky) moves to within two games of Portland State (9-16, 5-7 BSC) for the sixth and final spot to the Big Sky Tournament, scheduled for March 8th-10th at the site of the regular-season champion.

Sprague Takes NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Pole

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) - Jack Sprague turned a lap of 50.137, 179.508 mph, to capture the pole for the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series opener at Daytona.

Qualifying second was Carl Edwards, running a lap of 178.742 mph in the Roush Fenway Racing Ford.

Solo Home Run Lifts No. 7 Oregon State Past UNLV

The Beavers (3-1) opened the game strong, scoring four runs in the first inning.

(LAS VEGAS) - Freshman catcher Tarah Black belted a solo home run to lead-off the seventh inning and lift the No. 7 ranked Oregon State softball team to a 6-5 victory over UNLV on Thursday night at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

Black’s home run came in her first collegiate at-bat, sailing over the left field fence to push the Beavers in front.

McGowan became just the third player in Oregon State history to record 700 career strikeouts.

(EUGENE) - Eleanor Haring scored 17 points to lead Oregon to a 62-42 victory over No. 22 California on Thursday night.

Taylor Lilley added 10 points for the Ducks (15-10, 7-8 Pac-10), who shot 60.9 percent from the field in the second half in winning the fifth game out of their last six.

No. 15 Oregon Falls to Cal, 63-61

Tajuan Porter scored 14 points to lead the Ducks, who have lost five of seven.

(BERKELEY, Calif.) - Ryan Anderson converted a three-point play with 1:01 remaining and California snapped a six-game losing streak by beating slumping No. 15 Oregon 63-61 Thursday night.

The Golden Bears (13-12, 5-8 Pac-10) held Oregon (20-6, 8-6) scoreless for the final 4:31 of the game - including misses my Bryce Taylor and Chamberlain Oguchi in the final seconds - to win for the first time since Jan. 18th at Oregon State.

Anderson led the way for Cal with 18 points, Patrick Christopher added a career-high 16 and Omar Wilkes had 10.
