Warriors Blast Oregon Tech, 63-46

With its seventh straight win, Corban improves to 23-6 overall.

(SALEM) - A quartet of Warriors scored in double figures led by senior Brianne Carras' game-high 16 points and 12 rebounds, as Corban's women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games thanks to a 63-46 win over Oregon Tech on Friday.

Senior Jessi Norton helped the Warriors take an early advantage (9-2) when senior Kendall Dionne assisted her on a three-pointer with 17:34 on the first half clock.

The Warriors will return home on Saturday, when they host Southern Oregon University beginning at 5:30 PM in the final regular season game of the season inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

NASCAR: Sprague Wins Daytona Thriller

The victory was not only the first win for Sprague at Daytona, but also the first manufacturer win for Toyota.

(DAYTONA BEACH Fla.) - In a three-wide finish reminiscent of the 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway, Jack Sprague's No. 60 Con-way Freight Toyota got a push from Johnny Benson's Toyota to nip Travis Kvapil at the start/finish line on the final lap to capture the Chevy Silverado HD 250.

Sprague and Benson split Kvapil right at the finish line, relegating him to a third-place finish, .034 seconds behind winner Sprague.

Bruins Bomb Bulldogs Again in Regional Redux

(ANTHEM, Ariz.) - Bringing back memories of their last meeting in the 2006 NCAA Division III West Regional, the George Fox University Bruins blasted the University of Redlands Bulldogs 12-2 on the second day of play in the Arizona Desert Classic baseball tournament Friday afternoon at the Boulder Creek High School junior varsity field.

Chris Albrecht (1-0) was the winning pitcher last year when the Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 10-3 in the opening game of the regional, and he was on the mound again for the Bruins’ Desert Classic win.

NBA: Jackson, Mullin, Vitale Lead NBA Hall of Fame Finalists

(SPRINGFIELD, MA ) - Phil Jackson, who led the Lakers and Bulls to 9 NBA titles, Chris Mullin, the former St. John’s and NBA standout who played for the 1992 Olympic ‘Dream Team’, ESPN sportscaster Dick Vitale, legendary high school coach Bobby Hurley of St. Anthony’s and the 1966 NCAA Champions from Texas Western highlight a list of 15 named as finalists for election into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2007.

Davidson, Jackson, Mullin and Texas Western are finalists in their first year of consideration by their respective Screening Committees.

NBA: Sophomores` Blast Rookies, 155-114

The Blazers Brandon Roy had 6 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds for the Rookies.

(LAS VEGAS) - David Lee hit all 14 of his field-goal attempts for a game-high 30 points as the Sophomore beat the Rookies for the fifth consecutive year, 155-114.

Lee, who added 11 rebounds and four assists, took home MVP of the 2007 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam.

Ducks Win Fifth Straight

Sari-Jane Jenkins, Jennifer Salling and Neena Bryant each had two hits for the Ducks.

(LAS VEGAS ) - Oregon senior Kristi Leiter drove in four runs and scored once while junior Melissa Rice came within two outs of pitching a perfect game to lead the Ducks’ softball team to a 8-0 win over UC Davis in their opening game of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic Friday at SLC Park.

Oregon accounted for three runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the third and three more in the fourth as the game was shortened to four and a half innings due to the eight-run rule.

Salling also drove in three runs and scored one while Suzie Barnes scored twice to extend the Ducks’ winning streak to five games.

Gonzaga Upsets No. 15 Oregon State, 6-5

Gonzaga has beaten OSU in Phoenix-area tournaments in each of the past two seasons.

(SURPRISE, Ariz.) - Oregon State rallied to tie the game in the seventh and eighth innings, but Gonzaga pushed across the winning run in the top of the ninth as the 15th-ranked Beavers fell to the Bulldogs 6-5 in the first game of the Coca-Cola Classic baseball tournament Friday afternoon at Surprise Stadium.

OSU (7-1 overall) had won nine straight games over two seasons, dating back to its wins over North Carolina for the 2006 College World Series championship last June.

OSU continues action in the tournament when it meets 14th-ranked Arizona State on Saturday at 2:00 PM PST, and the Beavers wrap up their trip against Missouri on Sunday at 8:45 AM PST.

NASCAR: Fernandez to Drive Hendrick Busch Car in Mexico

(CONCORD, N.C.) - Lowe's and Hendrick Motorsports announced Friday that Adrian Fernandez will drive the No. 5 Lowe's car in the March 4th Busch Series race in Mexico City.

Fernandez, 43, is Mexico's most popular driver and one of its most popular athletes.

He finished 10th and 12th in the first two Mexico City Busch Series races in 2005 and 2006.

Portland Falls to NLL Champs, 10-8

(PORTLAND) - The Portland LumberJax took on the defending 2006 National Lacrosse League Champion Colorado Mammoth Thursday in the Rose Garden but came up short, losing 10-8 in front of 7,192 fans.

Portland ’s third-string goalie Dwight Maetche was named the LumberJax Player of the Game for his 36 saves off 44 shots on goal and .818-save percentage.
