OSAA State Wrestling Championships Team Results Day One

CVC Team Results: Redmond is in second place, North Salem is 9th, Sprague is 11th, McKay is 13th, West Salem tied for 15th, and McNary is 31st.

(SALEM) - Salem-News.com SportsThe OSAA state wrestling championships got underway Thursday at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem.

The Class 6A, 5A and 4A state meets began Thursday and run through Saturday at the Oregon State Fairgrounds Pavilion.

Vikings Get Their Revenge on Wolves, 72-43

Western Oregon drops to 3-19 on the year and 2-9 in conference play.

(BELLINGHAM, Wash.) - Western Washington avenged the biggest upset of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this year, topping Western Oregon in women’s basketball on Thursday night at Carver Gymnasium, 72-43.

The win for the No. 4 regionally ranked Vikings gave them a win over the squad that upset them last month in Monmouth (84-77).

Central Washington Nips Western Oregon, 69-68

Western Oregon drops to 8-15 on the year and to 3-9 in the GNAC.

(MONMOUTH) - Lance Den Boer had 29 points, including 17 in the second half as Central Washington escaped with a 69-68 men’s basketball win over Western Oregon on Saturday night at the Physical Education Building.

The Wildcats won their sixth straight game, but had to hold their collective breath at the end.

Wolves Drop Two in Arizona Tournament

The Wolves could manage only one hit against Dixie State’s Haley Schumers.

(PHOENIX, Ariz.) - Western Oregon’s Christina Cooke gave up just one earned run and fanned eight but the Wolves still dropped its 2007 softball opener to Dixie State on Thursday night at the Triple Crown Division II Lead-Off Classic, 1-0.

The Wolves also lost to SE Oklahoma State, as the visitors scored three runs in the top of the seventh to win, 8-5.

Bruins Open Season With Win Over Kingsmen

George Fox is now 1-0, while Cal Lutheran falls to 2-4.

(ANTHEM, Ariz.) - Right-hander Nick Bratney went six strong innings and Dan Wentzell keyed the offense with three hits, leading the George Fox University Bruins to a 6-3 win over the California Lutheran University Kingsmen in the opening game of the 2007 Arizona Desert Classic Thursday afternoon at the Boulder Creek High School varsity field.

Bratney (1-0) started and did not allow a run through the first five innings before tiring in the 6th.

UPS Extends NASCAR Sponsorship

(ATLANTA) - UPS announced Thursday it had signed a new five-year agreement with NASCAR to continue as the official express delivery company of the sport through the 2011 racing season.

The exclusive "Official Delivery Company" partnership extends a highly successful union dating back to UPS’s initial entry into the sport in 2000.

The most visible part of UPS’s role in NASCAR has been its popular "Race the Truck" advertising series, which returns once again in 2007

California sits alone with 120 points.

The Beavers set three school records during the first day of competition.

(PORTLAND) - Salem-News.com SportsTwo Northwest prep standouts and one Australian international have signed national letters of intent to play women`s basketball at the University of Portland, head coach Jim Sollars announced Thursday.

Jessica Clemens (Burns, Ore./Burns HS), Tara Cronin (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and Lauren Angel (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea) have all committed to play on The Bluff next season.

NASCAR: Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon Win Gatorade Duels

Oregon's Mike Bliss was nipped at the line and will miss Sunday`s race.

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ) - Tony Stewart continued his success this week at Daytona International Speedway by winning the first Gatorade Duel At Daytona on Thursday.

Stewart, who won last weekend's Budweiser Shootout At Daytona, held off Dale Earnhardt Jr. to win his 11th career race at "The World Center of Racing."

Qualifying for the Daytona 500 through their finishes in the first Gatorade Duel At Daytona were Boris Said and Michael Waltrip.
