Western Oregon Inks 38 Players to National Letters of Intent

In addition, there could be more signings in the next week or so.

(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon University wolves logoBigger is better for the Western Oregon football program, who signed 38 players to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, the largest class in school history.

The list includes 13 players who were all-state selections, and five players who were conference players of the year.

In 2004, the Wolves were 5-6 and improved to 6-4 last fall.

No. 6 Oregon State Opens 2007 Softball Season in San Diego

The Beavers have won three of their last four season openers.

(SAN DIEGO) - OSU pitcher Brianne McGowanThe sixth-ranked Oregon State Beavers begin the 2007 softball season Thursday at the San Diego State Tournament.

Also in the tournament are UMass, Kansas, UC Santa Barbara, and host San Diego State.

OSU finished the 2006 campaign with a 43-16 overall record and a 10-10 Pac-10 Conference mark.

Beavers Set to Face No. 24 Arizona, ASU

The first 500 fans that purchase a game program at Saturday’s contest vs. Arizona State will receive a Benny Beaver bobblehead collectible.

The Wildcats come in on Thursday as the nation’s 24th-ranked team, while the Beavers defeated the Sun Devils in their first meeting this season.

ODFW Introducing New Booklet "Easy Angling Oregon"

(SALEM ) - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife kicks off its Easy Angling Oregon program at the Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show which begins a five-day run Wednesday at the Portland Expo Center.

The free 60-page Easy Angling Oregon booklet features detailed information on 34 lakes, ponds, rivers and reservoirs around the state that have been selected by ODFW biologists as ideal for families.

Ducks Win Baja Classic

(BAJA CALIFORNIA, Mexico) - golferThe No. 47-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team held onto their first-day lead in final round action Tuesday and won the Baja Classic at the Bajamar Resort.

The Ducks shot a 311 second round to win by three strokes after they opened with a 298 Monday.

Oregon edged No. 44 Louisville (second, 305-307-612), while No. 37 Birmingham Southern and Colorado tied for third at 620.

(LAS VEGAS) - Chevrolet driver Casey Mears turned in the fastest lap during the afternoon - and final - session of the NASCAR Busch Series testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (29.685 sec./181.910 mph).

Paul Menard's best lap of 29.603 sec./182.414 mph, set during this morning's session, stands as the fastest lap overall since testing began Monday morning.

WOU Ends Three Game Slide With 4-2 Win

West Salem freshman Mike Cusick picks up win in first collegiate start.

(SEASIDE, Calif.) - Western Oregon true freshman Mike Cusick threw eight sterling innings, helping his Wolves break a three-game losing streak while picking up a 4-2 over Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday afternoon at Peter Aldrete Field in Seaside.

Cusick gave up only six hits, walked no one and fanned six in allowing just one earned run.

The former West Salem High School start was making his first collegiate appearance on the mound.

(EUGENE) - Sophomore Anna PowaskaThe No. 48 Ducks (4-2, 0-0) look to rebound on the road as the head to Colorado to take on No. 45 Denver (4-1, 0-0) and the No. 51 University of Colorado (3-1, 0-0).

The matches mark the fifth and sixth consecutive matches for the Ducks against a ranked opponent.

They have split the previous four matches, besting No. 57 Alabama and No. 50 Texas Tech while falling to No. 22 Michigan and No. 63 Sacramento State.
