History-Making Williams Leads Pirates Past Bruins

The Bruins Chris Parker scored a game-high 22 points.

(SPOKANE, Wash. ) - Salem-News.com SportsPoint guard Bryan Williams scored 20 points, becoming the first player in Whitworth College history to surpass both 1,000 points and 500 assists for a career, as he sparked the NCAA Division III 13th-ranked Pirates to a 90-64 win over the George Fox University Bruins in Northwest Conference men’s basketball Saturday night at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Whitworth scored the first five points of the game and jumped to an early 13-2 lead, but the Bruins battled back to within a point twice, the second time after six straight points by Chris Parker that pulled George Fox within 34-33 with 1:20 to play.

Corban's Bale Earns No. 100 in Win Over Geoducks

(SALEM) - Fifth-year head coach Dave Bale earned career win No. 100 at Corban on Saturday night when his women's basketball team picked up a 66-52 victory over the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College thanks to a game-high 17 points by junior Jessica Steigleman.

The game was back-and-forth for the first eleven minutes before the host Warriors took a five-point lead (25-20) following a jumper by Steigleman with 8:30 remaining on the first half clock.

Corban took its second five-point lead of the opening half (27-22) thanks to another jumper by Steigleman with 6:52 left.

Lewis & Clark Holds on For 60-55 Win Over Bearcats

Willamette’s Andrus leads all scorers with 20 points.

(PORTLAND) - Lewis and Clark College players David Berggren and Joey Toboni scored 17 points apiece, and the Pioneers held off a late Willamette University rally, to hold on for a 60-55 win in Northwest Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday.

With the win, Lewis and Clark improved to 14-6 overall and to 9-3 in the NWC.

Willamette fell to 9-12 overall and to 5-7 in NWC play.

WOU's Leada Berkey Set GNAC Record in Loss

Alaska-Fairbanks pulls away from WOU women, 71-59.

(FAIRBANKS, Alaska) - Western Oregon’s Leada Berkey rattled home 33 points but the Wolves would need more than that on Saturday afternoon to defeat Alaska Fairbanks.

The Nanooks topped WOU 71-59 on Saturday at the Patty Center to improve to 9-11 overall and 4-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Western Oregon dropped to 3-17 overall and 2-7 in league play

Barker’s Trey Gives Nanooks Win Over Western Oregon

Alaska defeats WOU 79-76 on Kenny Barker’s three with three seconds left.

(FAIRBANKS, Alaska) - Kenny Barker nailed a three-pointer with just three seconds left to give host Alaska a topsy-turvy 79-76 men’s basketball victory over Western Oregon on Saturday at the Patty Center.

Barker’s trey broke the game’s 13th tie and gave the Nanooks the narrow victory.

Alaska’s record improved to 15-8 with the victory and to 6-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Lewis & Clark Pulls Away From Willamette For 60-46 NWC Victory

Pioneers hold Willamette to 27.9% shooting.

(PORTLAND) - The Lewis & Clark University Pioneers used a 17-8 run over the final 7:09 of the first half to pull away from visiting Willamette University, then maintained the lead in the second half, to down the Bearcats, 60-46, in Northwest Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday.

Lewis & Clark moved to 14-7 overall and 7-5 in NWC play, while Willamette dropped to 4-17 overall, 2-10 in the NWC.

Willamette held a 22-20 lead before the Pioneers went on their run to take a 37-28 halftime lead.

Bearcats Open Season With 9-7 Win Over Corban

Willamette builds 9-1 lead in first eight innings.

(SALEM) - Willamette University sophomore first baseman Jeff Stalker hit two homers and drove in a total of five runs, leading the Bearcats to a 9-7 victory over cross-town rival Corban College, in the season opener for both teams, Saturday at John Lewis Field.

Willamette scored two times in each of the first two innings and held a 9-1 lead entering the ninth stanza, but the Warriors tallied six runs in their final at bat to tighten the score.

WU reliever Kelsey Nakata earned a save by facing three batters and forcing the final out of the game.

Tritons Bounce Back With Double Dip of WOU

UCSD wins 5-3 and 4-3, fanning 18 Wolves batters.

(SAN DIEGO, Calif. ) - The day after clocking 14 hits in one game, Western Oregon could only manage to scratch out 13 base knocks during 5-3 and 4-3 baseball losses to UC San Diego at Triton Field.

With the twinbill wins by the Tritons today, and WOU’s 10-7 win on Friday, the Wolves are now 1-2 on the season and UCSD is 2-1.

In the first game, UCSD’s Matt Cantele hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give the hosts a 5-1 lead.

But the Tritons still had to survive a Wolves rally in the ninth, which included a two-run double by Paul Fisher.

With two runners still on base, reliever Todd Gimenez fanned the final two batters of the game to secure the victory.
