Oregon Track & Field Does Well at Husker Invite

(LINCOLN, Neb. ) - The University of Oregon men's sprint crew and women's pole vaulters highlighted Saturday's second and final day action in the Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska in the Devaney Center.

The pole vault duo of senior Emily Enders and freshman Eniko Eros both ended with final clearances of 12-3 1/2, and tied for third and fifth, respectively.

Junior Kasey Harwood also competed in the 800m and ranked 11th overall and third in the third heat of the event.

USC Holds Off No. 9 Oregon, 71-68

Last month the Trojans gave the Ducks their first loss - and only home loss - of the season, 84-82 in Eugene.

(LOS ANGELES) - Taj Gibson scored 18 points and Southern California held off a late rally from No. 9 Oregon for a 71-68 victory Saturday to give the Trojans a season sweep of the Ducks for the first time in six years.

Gibson went 7-for-9 from the field and hit a free throw with 16.9 seconds to play to give USC a three-point lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Aaron Brooks led Oregon with 16 points and nine rebounds, but the Pac-10's leading scorer missed a chance for another game-breaking shot when his 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

Nick Young scored 13 and Gabriel Pruitt had 12 points for USC, (18-6, 8-3 Pac-10) which beat a ranked team for the fifth time this season, and will stay in at least second place in the Pac-10.

Goodyear And NASCAR Extend Agreement

Goodyear to continue as exclusive tire supplier into next decade.

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and NASCAR Saturday, jointly announced they have signed an extended agreement for Goodyear to continue as the exclusive tire used in NASCAR's top three racing series for the next five years.

The agreement through 2012, naming Goodyear the "Exclusive Tire Supplier" of NASCAR's NEXTEL Cup Series, the NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series,

NFL News: Thomas, Irvin Head NFL's Hall of Fame Class

The 2007 class will increase to 241 the number of all-time greats permanently honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

(CANTON, Ohio) - Guard Gene Hickerson, wide receiver Michael Irvin, guard/tackle/center Bruce Matthews, tight end Charlie Sanders, running back Thurman Thomas, and cornerback Roger Wehrli make up the Class of 2007 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinees.

The six-man class was elected by the Hall of Fame's 40-member Selection Committee who met today in Miami, Florida.

The newest members of the Hall were selected from a list of 17 finalists that had been determined earlier by the committee.

No. 39 Ducks Bitten by No. 22 Wolverines, 4-3

The Ducks return to action Sunday afternoon as they take on the Sacramento State Hornets at noon.

(EUGENE) - Facing their toughest opponent of the young year, the Ducks swept the doubles point but gave up four singles matches to fall, 4-3, to No. 22 Michigan in a dual match held Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.

The loss was the first defeat of the year for the women's team as they move to 4-1 on the year.

Michigan, who upset No. 17 Vanderbilt last week to open their season, moves to 2-0.

Whitworth Sinks Linfield, 71-58

For the Wildcats, Andy Baldwin came off the bench to nine points.

(SPOKANE, Wash.) - Salem-News.com SportsNationally ranked Whitworth controlled the backboards and the scoreboard Friday night, handing the Linfield Wildcats a 71-58 Northwest Conference loss at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Linfield dropped to 2-9 in the NWC, 7-13 overall. Whitworth maintained its narrow grip on first place in the conference, improving to 9-2 in league play and 18-2 overall.

The Pirates, ranked 13th in the most recent D3hoops.com poll, led 40-35 at intermission.

Oregon Stymied by Stanford. 26-12

With the loss the Ducks fall to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the Pac-10.

(STANFORD, Calif.) - The Ducks' seniors would step it up in their final collegiate dual match against the Stanford Cardinal, but it would not be enough for the Ducks to capture the team victory as they fell 26-12 in a Pac-10 Dual meet held Friday evening at Burnham Pavilion.

Senior Justin Pearch would start the night with a victory for the Ducks at 141 lbs., defeating Matt Kim 9-3, and giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead, but the Cardinal grapplers would take the next six matches until the Ducks' other senior took the mat.

Chris Dearmon, the Central Point, Oregon native was the only other Duck to get a victory by actually taking the mat as he earned the 9-5 decision over Philip Doerner.

Pacific Uses Big First Half to Defeat Willamette, 69-60

Nugent scores 24 points (20 in second half) for Willamette.

(FOREST GROVE) - Donn Harrison-Davis scored 21 points, hit 4 of 5 three-point shots and grabbed seven rebounds, as Pacific University built 17-point halftime lead, then held off Willamette University in the second half for a 69-60 win over the Bearcats Friday night at the Pacific Athletic Center.

The win lifted Pacific to 10-9 on the season 6-5 in the Northwest Conference.

Willamette slipped to 9-11 overall, 5-6 in the NWC.

Oregon State Tumbles Past No. 17 Arizona State

In all OSU gymnasts set or tied six career-highs.

(CORVALLIS) - Tasha Smith excited the crowd, Jami Lanz turned in a typical ‘Jami Lanz performance’ and for the third week ina row Mandi Rodriguez tallied at least three career-best scores.

Meanwhile, the 16th-ranked Beavers put together a season-best performance outscoring No. 17 Arizona State 195.825-193.300.

Lanz, whose named has become synonymous with consistency, finished second in the all-around posting identical 9.825 scores on vault, bars and beam before taking her performance to a new level on the floor.
