(CORVALLIS) - Active individuals lacking in B-vitamins – including college athletes and other elite competitors -- may perform worse during high-intensity exercise and have a decreased ability to repair and build muscle than counterparts with nutrient-rich diets, according to recent Oregon State University research published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism.
The B-vitamins include thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B-6, B-12 and folate.
These micronutrients are necessary during the body’s process for converting proteins and sugars into energy, and are used during the production and repair of cells, including red blood cells

(EUGENE) - Sheldon High School senior Jack Dukeminier was among four high school players to sign a National Letter of Intent to play golf next season at Oregon, Duck head coach Casey Martin announced Tuesday.
Dukeminier will join Isaiah Telles of Tualatin, Ore., Sean Maekawa of Pa’auilo, Hawaii, and John Paton of Hillsborough, Calif., on the Oregon roster next season.

Willamette took second place with 299 points. (OAKLAND, Calif.) - Willamette University senior swimmer Kei Otawa won four events at the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by Mills College on Saturday and Sunday.
Otawa also earned one second place and one third place finish. Bridget Sutherland led the Willamette women’s team with one second place finish, plus a third place and two fourth place results.

(SALEM) - Three Willamette University football players have been named First Team All-Northwest Conference in voting by the league’s head coaches, the NWC announced Tuesday.
A total of 12 Bearcat players received All-NWC recognition, including three Second Team selections, and six Honorable Mention picks.
In all, 87 players from the conference’s seven teams earned recognition, with 35 of those picks chosen First Team All-NWC on offense or defense.

(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State women’s golf team has signed Cara Freeman of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., to a letter-of-intent for the 2007-08 school year, head coach Rise Lakowske announced Tuesday.
She tied for 13th out of 124 golfers at this week’s California state regional championship, narrowly missing out on a spot in the state finals.
