Cross Country: Willamette Men And Women Favored to Win NWC Cross Country Championships

The Bearcat men are ranked 15th in the NCAA Division III national coaches poll while the Willamette women are ranked 10th in the Division III national poll and have won the NWC crown five out of the last six years, including the past four.

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Willamette logoThe 2006 Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, at University Golf Course on the Pacific Lutheran University campus. This year marks the first time that the conference meet has been held on the PLU campus.

Previously, PLU has hosted the event at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, most recently in 2002.

Winter Hawk Kelley Friesen Retires From Competitive Hockey

Friesen is planning on staying involved in the sport. He is currently coaching four minor hockey teams in Saskatchewan and running a hockey school for very young players that are just getting started.

(PORTLAND) - Winterhawks on ice18-year-old forward Kelley Friesen of the Portland Winter Hawks has announced that he has decided to leave his WHL career due to ongoing hip problems.

“In talking with several hip specialists and doctors, the message was consistent,” Friesen said, “If I try to practice at my highest level every day, like you have to do in the WHL, and play an average of three games a week, I might be able to do it for a month or two, but then I would have to have the surgery.”

Women’s Soccer: Two Second Half Goals Lead Willamette Past George Fox

With the win the Bearcats reclaim first place in the Northwest Conference.

(NEWBERG) - George Fox soccerJessica Lammers converted a penalty kick and Emily Gross scored on a tap-in, as the Willamette University Bearcats recorded two goals in the second half to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit for a 2-1 win over George Fox University, in a Northwest Conference game on Wednesday.

With the victory, Willamette moved back into first place in the NWC by two points over the University of Puget Sound. George Fox fell to 5-10-2 overall and to 3-8-2 in the NWC.

Bearcats Lindstrom earns 17 Kills, Stutzman adds 10.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield volleyballThree Linfield players totaled double digits in kills, lifting the 14th-ranked Wildcats to a three-game sweep of Northwest Conference foe Willamette Wednesday night inside Ted Wilson Gym.

The Champ car star will make his first NASCAR appearance this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The 1986 Football Team, which rolled to a 12-0 record and captured the NAIA Division II national championship, will become the sixth team to be enshrined.

Women’s Soccer: Ducks Take Unbeaten Streak to Bay Area

With a 10-5-1 record and only four games remaining, the Ducks have guaranteed themselves the first winning regular season in school history.

(EUGENE) - Ducks soccerWith the final two weeks of the regular season in sight, Oregon heads to the Bay Area as one of only two unbeaten teams in Pac-10 play.

The Ducks take on California Friday at 3:00 PM. Then it’s No. 17 Stanford on the Farm Sunday at 1:00 PM.

By defeating Oregon State 2-1 in overtime last Friday, the Ducks set school single-season records for wins (10) and Pac-10 wins (4).

Women’s Soccer: Western Oregon’s Season Ends Saturday at Northwest Nazarene

The Wolves are 8-9-2, 1-7-1 in GNAC play.

(MONMOUTH) - The 2006 Western Oregon soccer season will come to a close Saturday at Northwest Nazarene. Game time is set for noon, MST. A victory would put the Wolves at an even .500. They head into the year’s final match with an 8-9-2 record.

Western Oregon deadlocked with defending conference champion Seattle Pacific for 89 minutes, but the host Falcons scored with 45 seconds left to edge WOU 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Interbay Stadium. The contest marked the second time this season that the Wolves played the Falcons tough, as SPU also won in tight 2-1 match in Monmouth on Sept. 13th.

Men’s Soccer: Bruins Beat Bearcats With Pair of Second-Half Goals

The Bruins go to Pacific University Sunday while the Bearcats visit Linfield College Saturday, both games at 1:30 PM.

(NEWBERG) - Willamette soccdrDylan Durrell scored to break a second-half tie and Kyle Story added an insurance goal that proved crucial as the George Fox University Bruins hung on to defeat the Willamette University Bearcats 3-2 in a Northwest Conference men’s soccer game Tuesday afternoon at Morse Field.

George Fox struck first 28:45 into the game as Keith Marshall raced down the right sightline, turned the corner, and centered perfectly to Matt Gurlides, who headed the ball into the left corner of the net for his seventh goal of the season.
