Beavers Have Cal Game Behind Them, Ready For Northwest Rival Washington State

The Beavers will try to rebound Saturday after being mauled by the California Golden Bears last week, 41-13.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU Beavers football logoOregon State plays its last of a three-game home-stand Saturday against long-time Pac-10 rival Washington State. The Beavers are in search of their first conference win of the season.

Washington State comes to Corvallis after pushing No. 2 USC to the brink in a 28-22 loss at Martin Stadium last Saturday. The Cougars are in the midst of a tough stretch of games this season; next week they host No. 16 California and then No. 11 Oregon Oct. 21st.

Corban College Women’s Volleyball Weekly Digest

Following an unfortunate six match losing streak, Corban turned things around last week thanks to victories over non-conference Northwest Christian, conference member Cascade, and conference member Warner Pacific.

(SALEM) - Corban logoAfter a pair of home matches last week, Corban’s women’s volleyball team hits the road and heads to the state of Washington for back-to-back conference matches.

The Warriors will kick off the weekend with the Eagles of Northwest on Friday in Kirkland, and then conclude against the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College on Saturday in Olympia. Both matches will begin at 7:00 PM.

Corban and Northwest have met 38 times in the series history with the Warriors winning 28-out-of-38 matches, but dropped the meeting earlier this season between the two teams, 3-2 (30-18, 30-28, 25-30, 22-30, 15-10).

Linfield Duo of Johnson And Rodgers Heading to Nationals

Both are making their first national championship tournament appearances.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield's Megan Rodgers and Becca JohnsonLinfield College senior tennis players Becca Johnson and Megan Rodgers have qualified to compete at the ITA Small College Championships, Oct. 11th-14th, at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla.

Johnson will compete in the Division III singles tournament, and will also team with Rodgers for the Division III doubles championships.

Both Wildcats are making their first national championship tournament appearances.

University of Oregon Women’s Lacrosse Team Holding Open Tryouts

The Ducks enter the year hopeful of seeing previous victories as a track record for their team.

(EUGENE) - Oregon Ducks Lacross teamThe University of Oregon Women's Lacrosse team will hold open tryouts on Monday, October 16th at 4:00 PM, head coach Jen Larsen announced Wednesday.

Anyone interested should congregate in front of the Casanova Center (2727 Leo Harris Parkway) before the tryout and bring a stick, cleats, and a mouth guard.

Linfield’s Men’s Golf Team Win Again

The Wildcats finished 12 strokes ahead of Pacific (298). Non-conference guest Concordia of Portland was third at 301, Willamette fourth at 320 and Lewis & Clark last at 348.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield golfLed by a four-under-par 68 by Andrew Fitch, Linfield’s men’s golf team won its own tournament Wednesday with a four-player score of 2 under par 286.

It was the second straight victory by the Wildcats in the Northwest Conference South’s fall season Four-Way Tournament.

Matt Guthrie of Concordia was second behind Fitch at 2-under-par 70 while Linfield’s Kyle Henderson and Pacific’s Dan Cashmere tied for third at one-under 71.

Beavers Open Pac-10 Play in Arizona

GAME #12: Friday at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.: Oregon State (7-2-2) vs. Arizona State (5-3-2) at 7 PM. GAME #13: Sunday at Murphey Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.: Oregon State vs. #24 Arizona (7-4, hosts Oregon on Friday) at 1:00 PM.

(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State women’s soccer team, with its best non-conference record since 2002, opens the Pacific-10 Conference season this weekend in the state of Arizona. It’s the second straight year that league play begins in the desert for the Beavers.

Arizona is ranked #24 nationally by the NSCAA. In the Soccer Buzz West Region rankings, Arizona is #11 and Oregon State is #15.

Willamette Women’s Cross Country Team Now 12th, Men Remain 15th, in NCAA Division III National

Last year, the Bearcats placed 14th in the women’s race and 16th in the men’s race at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Both Willamette teams won NCAA Division III West Region championships in 2005.

(SALEM) - Willamette track teamThe Willamette University women’s cross country team moved up one spot to #12 in the NCAA Division III National Rankings conducted by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Willamette men’s cross country team remained #15 for the second consecutive week.

WU’s new ranking followed a successful weekend for the Bearcat women’s team. Willamette hosted the 32nd Annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush’s Pasture Park in Salem, and the women’s squad responded by taking second place in the Women’s 5K Cardinal Race.

The Ducks have won four-straight games and after a season-opening loss at Tennessee, the Bears are also the winners of four straight contests. Both teams are perfect in conference play and each will look to extend the win streak to five games this week.
