Lutes Halt Wildcats' Win Streak

PLU (13-4, 7-0) ended a three-match series losing streak to the Wildcats, handing Linfield (13-1, 6-1 NWC) its first loss of the season.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield's Kelsey FrenchPacific Lutheran middle blocker Kati McGinn hammered 29 kills to power the unranked Lutes to a five-game upset of No. 6 Linfield Friday night inside noisy Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

The scores were 20-30, 30-27, 30-28, 19-30, 15-10.

With first place in the Northwest Conference riding on the outcome, the draining two-hour and 15-minute match played out as a defensive gem.

#16 California Defeats Oregon State, 5-0

OSU, which dropped its fourth straight game to open Pac-10 play, next hosts Stanford on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU men's soccerFive different California men’s soccer players scored goals as the 16th-ranked Golden Bears defeated Oregon State, 5-0, in Pacific-10 Conference action on Friday night at Lorenz Field.

The Golden Bears (7-3-1, 2-1-0) defeated the Beavers (5-6-1, 0-4-0) for the fifth straight game and had a season high for goals.

It didn’t take long at all for Cal to get on the board. Javier Ayala-Hil took the ball down the right side, and centered to the ball to Jacob Wilson at the right edge of the eight-yard box.

Peck’s OT Game-Winner Helps Oregon State to 2-1 Victory at Arizona State

The Beavers continue their road trip on Sunday at Arizona at 1:00 PM.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - The Oregon State women’s soccer team defeated Arizona State in overtime for the third straight year, as freshman midfielder Melissa Peck scored on a header in the 97th minute, leading the Beavers to a 2-1 road victory in the Pacific-10 Conference opener for both teams on Friday night.

OSU (8-2-2 overall, 1-0 Pac-10) had beaten ASU (5-4-2 overall, 0-1 Pac-10) by 1-0 scores in each of the last two years. Junior forward Jodie Taylor scored game-winners in the 96th minute in Tempe in 2005 and in the 109th minute in Corvallis in 2004.

Oregon completes its two-match conference road swing on Saturday against Washington State (13-6, 1-4).

(SEATTLE) - Ducks volleyballThe 2006 version of the University of Oregon volleyball team continued to distance itself from the woeful Ducks of the past 15 years, challenging defending NCAA champion Washington before bowing out in four games Friday night at Bank of America Arena.

The Ducks (11-3, 1-3 Pac-10) swiped Game 1 and led for the bulk of Game 4 before the No. 5 Huskies (13-3, 3-2) roared to life and protected their home floor, winning 26-30, 30-22, 30-23 and 30-27.

(SALEM)) - SNc Sports logoThe long trek from the high desert of central Oregon over the Cascades to Keizer proved not that bad for the Redmond Panthers manhandled the McNary Celtics 48-14 Friday night.

The Panthers (4-2 overall, 2-0 CVC) rolled up 349 yards of total offense, while forcing eight Celtics turnovers.

With the loss, McNary falls to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the CVC.

Don’t look now but defending league champion Sprague has won three straight.

Corban Wins Double Overtime Game Against Evergreen

Up next for the Warriors is Northwest College on Saturday. Game time is 6:00 PM.

(OLYMPIA, Wash) - Corban volleyballA scoreless regulation minutes game resulted in a double overtime ending in a 1-0 loss for Evergreen as Corban moves to 2-3 in conference play.

Both teams battled the elements and each other for the first rainy 90 minutes as most shots were of little threat to the net for both teams.

Corban’s winning goal happened in the 105th minute of the 4th period on a cross by Lyndsey Hawk where Sarah Whaley took advantage of a rebounding ball at the center of the penalty box. It was Whaley’s first goal of the season.

The Oregon Sports Network affiliates include KEZI (9) in Eugene-Springfield, KRCW (CW 32) in Portland, KDRV in Medford, KOHD in Bend and KDKF in Klamath Falls.

(EUGENE) - Ducks footballThree of the University of Oregon’s four remaining home football games vs. UCLA, Portland State and Arizona will all be televised live throughout the state, prompting a time change for the Oct. 28 game against the Vikings.

The Ducks’ next game Oct. 14th against UCLA has been chosen to be televised by ABC as part of the Pacific-10 Conference’s television agreement with the network, with kickoff to remain at 12:30 PM.

Wolves Hand Seawolves 9th Straight Loss

Western Oregon will next travel to take take on Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, start time is 7:00 PM.

(ANCHORAGE) - WOU logoSenior Chelsey Jones delivered 10 kills and six blocks, but the Seawolves couldn’t hang on to late leads in a pair of games Thursday as they fell 30-24, 31-29, 30-28 to Western Oregon at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

UAA (3-13, 0-8 GNAC), which lost its ninth in a row, also got eight kills from junior Kim Stolk.

WOU (6-12, 4-4 GNAC) was led by 15 kills from Laura Sakala and 39 assists from setter Amy Herron.

After dropping Game 1, the Seawolves appeared to right the ship in the second frame, taking leads of 26-19 and 29-26 in the late-going. The Wolves would rally to tie it, however, behind consecutive kills from Sakala, Keyana Jenkins, and Stacey Bennett (9 kills).
