Truck Rolls in West Salem

Motorists should try to avoid the area at scene on Edgewater.

(WEST SALEM ) - Salem Fire and Police are on the scene of a truck rollover at Eola and Edgewater.

Bill Holmstrom with Salem Fire says it happened at 11:40, when a truck rolled over dumping a cargo of large rocks over the roadway.

A passenger vehicle was also struck by the truck as the crash happened.

Fisherman Dies Off Oregon Coast Thursday

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

(DEPOE BAY) - The Coast Guard airlifted a 40-year-old male from a charter fishing vessel three miles north of Depoe Bay, Thursday.

The master of the 40-foot vessel Mr. Max contacted the Coast Guard by VHF-FM radio at 11:40 AM requesting assistance for an unconscious man.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay were launched minutes later to aid the victim.

Governor Orders Flags to be Flown at Half-Staff Friday

Flags will be lowered in memory of Sergeant Nathaniel "Brad" Lindsey.

(SALEM) - Governor Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Friday, in memory of Army Sergeant Nathaniel B. Lindsey of Troutdale.

Lindsey, 38, died on September 9th supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Shajoy, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the Oregon National Guard 41st Brigade Combat Team of Portland.

Governor Announces Reduction in Unemployment Tax

Oregon employers will save $64 million in 2007, thanks to a recovering economy and tax cut.

(SALEM) - A change in the tax rate schedule for unemployment insurance will cut next year’s unemployment taxes by $64 million, thanks to a bill the Governor introduced during the 2005 legislative session.

“The tax savings will provide a real boost to Oregon’s employers, which will help offset the effects of our automatic increase in the minimum wage,” the Governor said.

Marine Board Approves “Electric Motor Only” Rule For Elk Lake

The new rule goes into affect in November.

(SALEM) - The Oregon State Marine Board approved a new "electric motor only" rule for Elk Lake in Marion County.

A request was received in late March from Clackamas River Trout Unlimited, seeking an electric-motor-only rule for the lake.

The lake previously had no speed limit or motor restrictions.

Police Pursuit Ends With Arrest of Brooks Man

Officers used spike strips to bring the chase to a close.

(SALEM) - A high speed police pursuit in Salem that began around 11:15 AM Thursday, ended with a pick up in a ditch and the driver, 26-year old Joshua Self of Brooks, behind bars facing several charges.

Marion County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says it began during a traffic stop on Clarmar Dr NE near Center St NE in Salem, when a Traffic Team deputy stopped a 1975 Tan Chevrolet pickup.
