Trail Blazers Tip-Off 2007-08 Season at San Antonio

The Trail Blazers will play host to Northwest Division-rival Seattle in a Christmas Day battle.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Blazers Brandon RoyThe Portland Trail Blazers open their 2007-08 home schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 7, against New Orleans at the Rose Garden on ESPN.

Portland will tip off its 38th NBA season with a three-game road trip, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 30, at San Antonio.

The San Antonio and New Orleans games will be televised nationally on TNT and ESPN, respectively, as part of a 19-game national TV schedule that features six games on ESPN, six games on TNT and seven games on NBA TV.

Ems Drop Volcanoes, 11-7

The first-place Volcanoes travel to Spokane for a 5-game series with the Indians.

(KEIZER, Ore. ) - ems baseball logoJustin Pickett's three-run homer sparked a seven-run fifth inning as visiting Eugene topped Salem-Keizer, 11-7, on Thursday.

After Pickett drilled his eighth homer, Justin Baum belted a two-run shot, Yefri Carvajal lined an RBI double and Andrew Parrino added a run-scoring single to give the Emeralds an 8-1 advantage.

Keoni Ruth ripped a two-run homer in the eighth and an RBI double in the ninth for Eugene.

Oregon State Opens 2007 Football Season Friday

A total of 17 full-time starters and 59 lettermen are expected to be in attendance for the opening of camp.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - osu football photoFriday marks the opening of the 2007 college football season for Oregon State as the Beavers and Arizona are the first of the 10 conference teams to open camp -- only eight other schools in the nation begin earlier.

OSU’s 12-game season opens Thurs., Aug. 30 in one of its most difficult season openers in recent years as it hosts the Utah Utes of the Mountain West Conference.

As fall camp progresses most eyes will be on the quarterback position, where senior Ryan Gunderson and sophomores Sean Canfield and Lyle Moevao will compete for the job.

Bears Fans Take Note: No Smoking During Home Games

First-time violators of the smoking policy will be asked to exchange their ticket for a "Smoking Card."

(LAKE FOREST, Ill. ) - Bears Soldier Field In order to be compliant with the Smoke-Free Illinois Act, smoking will be prohibited at Soldier Field during all Chicago Bears home games beginning with the preseason contest on August 25 versus the San Francisco 49ers.

There will be no designated smoking areas inside or outside of Soldier Field and re-entry is prohibited for those who choose to exit the stadium premises to smoke.

Violators of the strictly enforced policy are subject to ejection from the stadium.

Twins-Royals Game Postponed Due to Bridge Collapse

Twins officials contemplated canceling Wednesday's game, but were concerned that an influx of traffic into the area could impede rescue vehicles.

(MINNEAPOLIS ) - twins baseball logoThursday's Twins-Royals afternoon game has been postponed in light of the tragic I-35W bridge collapse that took place in Minneapolis on Wednesday night.

The team has also postponed Thursday evening's groundbreaking ceremony for the new ballpark.

At about 6:05 p.m. CT on Wednesday, the four-lane I-35W bridge near the Metrodome collapsed into the Mississippi River.

Volcanoes starter Craig Clark tossed five shutout innings, scatterring three hits and striking out five.

(KEIZER, Ore. ) - volcanoes baseball logoAndrew Davis went 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs to power host Salem-Keizer to an 11-0 romp over Eugene on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old third baseman smacked two-run singles in the fourth and sixth innings to help the Volcanoes (34-8) to their fourth straight win.

Shane Jordan had three hits and an RBI while Brock Bond, Matthew Downs, Chad Rothford, Garret Baker and Sharlon Schoop each drove in a run.
