(NAPA, Calif. ) - The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent QB Daunte Culpepper, Raiders Head Coach Lane Kiffin announced after Tuesday afternoon's Training Camp practice at the team's Napa Valley Training Complex.
The 6'4", 265-pound Culpepper spent last season with the Miami Dolphins.
Culpepper, who is entering his ninth season in the NFL, spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. Read Full Article

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) - NASCAR announced Tuesday that Tony Stewart has been fined $25,000 and penalized 25 Nextel Cup Series driver championship points, as a result of using inappropriate language during a post-race televised interview following his victory Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Stewart is feuding with ESPN, which criticized him two weeks ago for saying he was going to drink a case of beer to celebrate his July 15 win in Chicago. Read Full Article

Rothford ripped an RBI double in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the fifth before doubling again in the eighth.

(SEATTLE) - Minutes before the non-waiver trading deadline on Tuesday, the Mariners acquired Minor League shortstop Jesus Merchan from the Phillies for veteran right-handed reliever Julio Mateo.
Merchan, who was batting .330 with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 44 RBIs for Double-A Reading, will report to Double-A West Tennessee.
The trade gives Mateo a chance to resurrect his Major League career, which came to a halt last May 3 in a New York hotel when he reportedly injured his wife during a domestic dispute. Read Full Article

(BOSTON) - The Rangers have traded pitcher Eric Gagne to the Boston Red Sox for Major League pitcher Kason Gabbard and Minor League outfielders David Murphy and Engel Beltre.
Gabbard is 4-0 with a 3.73 ERA in seven starts for the Red Sox this year.
The trade was completed just after the Rangers announced that they had traded Mark Teixeira to the Atlanta Braves.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Bill Walsh, who guided the San Francisco 49ers to three Super Bowl titles and enjoyed one of the most brilliant careers in the history of football, has died after a long fight with leukemia.
He was 75.
"This is just a tremendous loss for all of us, especially to the Bay Area because of what he meant to the 49ers," said Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana. Read Full Article
