The ‘Cats held the Destroyers to a playoff-low 33 points.

(NEW ORLEANS) - SaberCats AFL logoThe San Jose SaberCats earned their third championship in six seasons with a 55-33 win over the Columbus Destroyers in ArenaBowl XXI in front of a sold out crowd of 15,147 at New Orleans Arena.

San Jose QB Mark Grieb, who was named the Mitsubishi Motors Most Valuable Player, passed for 218 yards (24-of-29) with four touchdowns and no interceptions, and WR James Roe added eight catches for 76 yards and two scores, while WR Rodney Wright chipped in with 10 catches for 94 yards in the win.

Tony Stewart Wins Again at the Brickyard

Four-time Allstate 400 at the Brickyard champion Jeff Gordon placed third. Kyle Busch and pole sitter Reed Sorenson finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

(INDIANAPOLIS) - tony stewart photoTony Stewart passed Kevin Harvick with nine laps remaining and pulled away to win the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard on Sunday at his beloved home track, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Stewart beat runner-up 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya by 2.982 seconds and averaged 117.379 mph for his second victory in this marquee NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event in the last three years. Stewart also won in 2005.

Volcanoes Dump Emeralds, 6-2

Garret Baker went 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Volcanoes (32-8).

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - volcanoes baseball logoMatthew Downs drove in three runs with a pair of doubles to lead visiting Salem-Keizer past Eugene, 6-2, on Sunday.

Downs smacked a two-run double in the first inning and delivered an RBI double in the eighth.

Salem-Keizer starter Jared Cranston gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in five innings for the win.

This year's edition proved them wrong though as Robert Doornbos visited the winner's circle after starting shotgun on the field in the 15th spot.

Salem-Keizer reliever Jesse English (4-0) worked three hitless innings for the win.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Volcanoes sports logoJackson Williams' solo homer in the eighth inning proved to be the decisive run as Salem-Keizer held off host Eugene, 6-5, on Saturday.

Williams slugged his fifth homer in the eighth to give the Volcanoes (31-8) a 6-4 lead.

Chad Rothford, Matthew Downs and Brock Bond lined RBI singles in Salem-Keizer's five-run second.

Leffler was able to start the charge through the field on lap 166 when then leader Greg Biffle, the second place car of Carl Edwards and third place holder David Reutimann began a battle that at times was three wide.

Sorenson Makes History to Lead Ganassi in Brickyard Qualifying

Sorenson's fast lap was 184.207 mph, while Montoya, a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series rookie secured the second starting position with a lap of 183.494.

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Juan Pablo Montoya Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammates Reed Sorenson and Juan Pablo Montoya swept the front row for the 14th Allstate 400 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Sorenson became the youngest pole winner for a major race in IMS history.

Sorenson earned the pole – the first of his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series career – at age 21 years, 173 days, eclipsing Rex Mays' 72-year-old record as the youngest pole winner at IMS. Mays won the 1935 Indianapolis 500 pole at age 22.
