Bruins Elevate Marty Hunter to Head Coach

Hunter joined the George Fox staff as an assistant baseball coach in 2003 and was named the Bruins’ associate head coach in 2005.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - George Fox sports logoMarty Hunter, a veteran coach with experience at the high school, college, and professional levels, has been promoted from associate head coach to head coach of the George Fox University baseball program, director of athletics Craig Taylor announced Wednesday.

He replaces Pat Bailey who was named assistant coach at two-time defending NCAA Division I national champion Oregon State University, where he joins another former George Fox baseball coach, Pat Casey.

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Defeat Dust Devils, 3-2

Salem-Keizer starter Thomas Brewer (3-0) earned the win.

(PASCO, Wash. ) - Volcanoes sports logoFor the second straight day, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils in a one-run game.

The 3-2 decision puts the Volcanoes' record at 24-5, while the Dust Devils fall to 10-19.

Salem-Keizer converted three doubles into two runs in the second inning, and tacked on their final run in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.

Winter Hawks Elect to Make Coaching Change

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Winter Hawks logoPortland Winter Hawks Director of Hockey Operations Jim Goldsmith has announced that Coach Mike Williamson’s contract will not be renewed with the team.

Williamson, 34, was head coach in Portland for seven full seasons, taking over for Harold Snepsts, who resigned on February 3, 2000.

In his first full season as head coach in 2000-01, Williamson earned Western Conference Coach of the Year honors after Portland jumped 43 points in the standings.

Haslam has held the position for the past 10 years.

Randy Rigby, Senior Vice President of Sales & Broadcasting, Chief Marketing Officer has been named as Haslam’s successor.

Trail Blazers Re-Sign Travis Outlaw

Three-year deal brings Outlaw back to Portland.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Travis Outlaw photoThe Portland Trail Blazers re-signed forward Travis Outlaw to a three-year contract, it was announced Wednesday by Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard.

Outlaw, 22, was originally selected by the Trail Blazers with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft.

The four-year pro from Starkville H.S. (Miss.) holds career averages of 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 203 games with the Trail Blazers.
