Willamette's Zerzan Finishes Second in 5,000-Meter Run at NCAA Championships

The Willamette women finished in 18th place in the team standings with 14 points.

(OSHKOSH, Wisc. ) - Willamette Sarah ZerzanWillamette University's Sarah Zerzan took second place in the finals of the 5,000-meter race at the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Zerzan, who won the NCAA Division III women's cross country national title in the fall, registered a time of 16.51.18 on Saturday to finish less than two seconds out of the lead.

The event is scheduled for Tues., June 5th and the public is encouraged to attend.

Linfield's Joanna Murphy Places Fourth at Nationals

The Wildcats Josh Lovell, who won the Northwest Conference title with 6,449 points, placed 13th in the decathlon

(OSHKOSH, Wis.) - Joanna Murphy photoJoanna Murphy posted a 16-second season-best and placed fourth on Friday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III national championship meet.

Murphy's time was 10:35.90 and she earned All-America honors for her finish. Race winner Shauneen Garrahan of Amherst College won in a meet record time of 10:13.33.

In the men's competition, the Lovell twins made their national meet debut.

Barker's All-American Bid in Heptathlon Falls Short

Christina Acquaviva of SUNY Cortland cruised to the national championship with a total of 5,189 points.

(OSHKOSH, Wis.) - Brooke Barker photoBrooke Barker's bid to become a three-time All-American in the heptathlon fell short Friday as the Pacific senior finished 11th in the event at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, held at J.J. Kellar Field at Titan Stadium.

Barker compiled a total of 4,488 points in the seven-event discipline, her highest point total of the season and the fourth highest of her Pacific career.

After completing their inventories, hatchery managers confirmed that no legal-sized rainbow trout were fed any of the recalled product.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - rainbow troutOn the heels of the Federal Drug Administration’s recent announcement that farm fish showed no contamination from recalled fish feed, state hatchery managers are moving forward with their stocking schedules and releasing fingerlings in several lakes and rivers across the state.

The questionable feed was sold to 196 fish hatcheries -- 26 of the state’s 33 hatcheries received the recalled product.

NBA Playoffs: Wallace's Shot Gives Pistons 2-0 Series Lead

LeBron James scored a game-high 19 points to go along with six boards and seven assists.

(AUBURN HILLS, Mich.) - Detroit Pistons logoFoul trouble kept Rasheed Wallace out for much of the first quarter on Thursday, but it did not prevent him from hitting the game-winning shot.

Wallace's jumper with 24.3 seconds remaining gave the Pistons a one-point lead, and following three straight missed shots by the Cavaliers, Richard Hamilton hit two free throws to hand Detroit a 79-76 Game 2 win over Cleveland.

Wallace finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Jason Maxiell added 15 and six.

Series point leader Jeff Gordon will start 32.

(CONCORD, N.C. ) - Ryan Newman photoRyan Newman grabbed the pole for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 with a fast lap of 185.312 mph. Newman will be joined on the front row by Penske Racing teammate Kurt Busch.

Rounding out the top ten were Elliott Sadler, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Ricky Rudd, Dave Blaney, Bobby Labonte, and David Stremme.

Newman hasn't won a race since September 2005, and Penske has never won at Charlotte.

NHL: After 18 Years, Brian Leetch Says Goodbye

Leetch, a certain first-ballot Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible in 2009, ended his career with 247 goals and 781 assists in 1,205 NHL games.

(NEW YORK) - Brian Leetch photoFormer Rangers defenseman and captain Brian Leetch retired as a player Thursday, officially ending a brilliant 18-year NHL career that saw him win two Norris Trophies as the NHL's top defenseman and the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the Rangers' run to the 1994 Stanley Cup championship.

Leetch, 39, had not played during the 2006-07 season, having last seen action with the Boston Bruins in 2005-06.

He played his final game at Madison Square Garden on March 20th, 2006, as a member of the Bruins, receiving a hero's welcome when he hit the ice.

(LAS VEGAS) - Paul Tracy photoPaul Tracy has been given the green light to return behind the wheel of his #3 INDECK Champ Car after suffering a compression fracture to his first lumbar vertebrae during practice for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in April.

Forsythe Championship Racing also announced that Oriol Servia, who replaced Tracy for the Long Beach and Houston events recording impressive 2nd and 4th place results, will return to the Forsythe Team to take over the driving duties of the #7 INDECK Champ Car starting in Portland.
