Veteran IndyCar Series driver Hamilton received one himself on Second Day Qualifying for the 91st Indianapolis 500 on May 13th.

Hamilton, returning to competitive driving for the first time since suffering multiple injuries in a crash during a 2001 race, put the No. 02 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone solidly in the field at 222.327 mph as positions 12 through 22 were filled for the May 27th race

NBA Playoffs: Jazz Thump Warriors in Game 4, 115-101

Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington scored 24 points apiece to lead the Warriors.

(OAKLAND, Calif. ) - utah jazz logoAfter falling to the Warriors by 20 in the last game, the Jazz bounced back in a big way and will now return to Utah for Game 5 with a 3-1 series lead after topping Golden State, 115-101, in Game 4 on Sunday.

Utah dominated down low with Carlos Boozer running the show.

Boozer finished with game highs in points (34) and rebounds (12) and helped the Jazz hold a 50-32 edge in points in the paint.

NASCAR: Jeff Gordon Wins at Darlington

Dale Earnhardt Jr. may endure the wrath of NASCAR later this week.

(DARLINGTON. S.C.) - jeff gordon winsJeff Gordon continued the Hendrick Motorsports dominance of the 2007 season with his seventh career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory at Darlington Raceway in Sunday's rain-delayed Dodge Avenger 500.

With steam spewing from his DuPont Chevrolet from a dangerously-close overheating engine, Gordon held off Denny Hamlin to score his third win of the season and 78th career Cup win.

Gordon's win gave Hendrick Motorsports eight victories in the season's first eleven races.

MLB: Seattle Acquires RP Jason Davis from Cleveland

Seattle will send Indians player to be named later to complete trade.

(SEATTLE) - Seattle Mariners logoSeattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced Sunday that the Mariners have acquired veteran right-handed reliever Jason Davis from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later.

Davis, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound relief pitcher, is expected to join the Mariners during the series versus the Los Angeles Angels, May 15th-17th.

(CHICAGO) - chicago bulls logoIn contrast to Game 3, the Chicago Bulls refused to relinquish a big lead in the second half to the Detroit Pistons in Game 4.

Luol Deng posted 25 points and 13 rebounds and Kirk Hinrich added 19 points and 10 assists as the Bulls avoided elimination with a 102-87 triumph Sunday to cut Detroit's series lead to 3-1.

After the Pistons pulled within seven late in the fourth quarter, Ben Gordon, who scored 19 points, drained a 3-pointer with 3:20 remaining and Ben Wallace sank three free throws shortly after.

Pac-10 Baseball: WSU Upsets No.11 Oregon State Again, 5-3

Washington State lefthander Jayson Miller limited OSU to four hits in his eight innings pitched.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - oregon state baseballOregon State’s Mike Lissman homered for the second straight day but the 11th-ranked Beavers lost to Washington State 5-3 in Pac-10 baseball Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Braden Wells was 3-for-3 with a run batted in for OSU (36-13 overall, 8-10 Pac-10), which dropped a home series for the first time in nearly three years.

On Sunday before a Mothers Day crowd of 2,113,, WSU (25-22, 8-13) handed OSU its first series loss in its home ballpark since the Beavers dropped two of three games to UCLA to end the 2004 season.

Oregon to Face Penn State in South Carolina

The Ducks have a 3-0 all-time record against Penn State.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - oregon softball photoThe University of Oregon softball team will travel to Columbia, S.C., for the NCAA Regional tournament hosted by the University of South Carolina being held Friday-Sunday, May 18th-20th.

Oregon, which earned a No. 2 seed will face No. 3 seeded Penn State (26-23) Friday at 1:00 PM PDT (4:00 PM EDT), as it begins its quest for its first Women’s College World Series appearance since 1989.

Oregon ended its regular season with a 42-17 overall record and a 7-14 finish in the Pac-10 Conference.

Beavers Head to Michigan to Face Louisville

No. 15 Oregon State earns ninth straight NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Kirk Walker photoMaking their ninth consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance, the No. 15 ranked Oregon State University softball team will face University of Louisville, as was announced by the NCAA selection committee on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers (39-21) will face the Cardinals (36-23) at 1:30 PM PDT in the first game of Friday’s competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The other half of Oregon State’s bracket pits host No. 9 seed University of Michigan (43-11) against Eastern Michigan University (27-20).

Redlands won two of three previous meetings between the two programs this season, including a 3-1 win Friday that sent Linfield into the loser’s bracket.

(PINEVILLE, La.) - linfield softball photoFueled a barrage of home runs, Linfield emphatically punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III championship finals, defeating archrival Redlands twice, 4-1 and 17-1, on Mother’s Day to capture a second consecutive West Regional crown.

Redlands (30-12) entered Sunday’s regional championship needing to win just once, but the Wildcats (40-6) pounded six home runs and 24 hits, including five homers in the first three innings of the nightcap, to claim the title and one of eight berths to next week’s NCAA finals in Salem, Va.
