Oregon Center to Tour with Athletes in Action

As of 2006, AIA had a ministry presence in 85 countries and on nearly 100 college campuses and 35 professional sports teams.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Ray Schafer photoOregon senior center Ray Schafer has been invited to join the Athletes in Action team that will play a series of exhibition games in Australia this summer, the AIA announced Friday.

The team will train at the AIA headquarters in Xenia, Ohio, Aug. 4th-8th before departing to Sydney.

Schafer, a 7-0 center from Wasilla, Alaska, averaged 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in 23 appearances as a junior for Oregon last season.

Nine Linfield Baseball Players Named to NWC All-Star Squad

Linfield finished 22-16 overall in Scott Carnahan’s final season as coach.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Kevin Mills photoNine Linfield baseball players have been named to the Northwest Conference all-star team following a vote of the league’s nine coaches.

Named to the first team were outfielder Kevin Mills, designated hitter Stew Davis, and pitcher Brian Clark.

Earning second team all-conference recognition were catcher Drew Van Cleave, second baseman Cory Ellis, pitcher Cameron Larson and shortstop David Bachofner.

MLB: Oakland Signs Swisher to New 5-Year Deal

The versatile Swisher has made 120 career starts in right field, 106 at first base, 82 in left field, nine in center field and six at designated hitter.

(OAKLAND) - oakland athletics logoThe Oakland Athletics announced today the club has agreed to terms with outfielder Nick Swisher on a five-year contract through the 2011 season with a one-year club option for 2012.

Swisher, 26, who was the A's first-round pick (16th selection overall) in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, made his major league debut with the A's in 2004 in just his third professional season.

He has compiled a .249 career batting average to go along with 64 home runs and 194 RBI in 335 major league games.

D-III Softball Playoffs: Linfield Plays 'Catball', Beats HSU

Wildcats ace Brittany Miller picked up the win to improve to 17-3.

(PINEVILLE, La.) - Meredith Brunette photoThe Linfield Wildcats began their run in the NCAA Playoffs with an 9-1 win over Hardin-Simmons in both teams' first-round game at the West Regional, hosted by Louisiana College.

Linfield (36-5) moves on to play Redlands at 4:00 PM (CDT) Friday while Hardin-Simmons plays Trinity at noon in an elimination game.

The Wildcats got things going early when their leadoff batter Stephanie Rice singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on a RBI double by Meredith Brunette.

Pac-10 Softball: Oregon Edges Stanford in Extra Innings

With the victory, Oregon takes the season series over Stanford, 2-1, for the second straight year.

No. 20 Oregon improves to 41-16 overall and 6-13 in the Pac-10 Conference.

Stanford drops to 33-17-1 on the year and 7-11-1 in the Pac-10.

For the second straight season, Kobe Bryant led the NBA in scoring with 31.6 points per contest.

Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in 2003-04 to be named to the First Team, as the NBA announced the 2006-07 All-NBA Teams today.

Joining Nash at guard on the First Team is Bryant, the NBA’s leading scorer during the regular season. San Antonio’s Tim Duncan and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki join Stoudemire in the frontcourt.

Despite leading by 19 early in the third quarter, Chicago fell victim to Billups' 17 second-half points in Detroit's 81-74 Game 3 victory on Thursday, giving the Pistons a 3-0 series lead.

Detroit used a 12-0 run in third quarter to close within five.

His departure happens at the end of the 2007 season.
