Willamette Rallies to Defeat Rival Corban, 5-4

McGee's 2-RBI double in fifth inning gives Willamette lead for good.

(SALEM) - corban baseball k_hJack McGee put Willamette University in the lead for good with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning and Jimmy Meuel earned a save by facing just four batters to record the final four outs, as the Bearcats defeated crosstown rival Corban College, 5-4, on Tuesday at Warrior Field.

The Bearcats, who have won nine of their last 12 games, lead the season series with the Warriors, 2-0. Corban dropped to 10-18-1.

It was a typical mid-week game, with both teams using more than half of their respective rosters.

CCC Softball: Concordia Takes Two From Corban

Lindsay Batey led the Warriors on a combined 3-for-5 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored.

(PORTLAND) - corban player photoJunior Lindsay Batey continued to add to her home run total this season with her team-leading 7th in the night cap, but Corban's softball team dropped both conference match ups, 10-1 & 7-4, to the Cavaliers of Concordia on Tuesday.

In Game #1, the Warriors jumped out to an early lead behind singles from sophomore Megan Gaylord and Batey in the first inning.

After Concordia scored five runs (5-0) in the first two innings of the night cap, including a two RBI double by Cijay Koninui, Corban began a small come back behind a team effort of three runs on four hits in the fourth inning.

Beavers McGowan Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

For the week, the Reno, NV, native boasted a 3-1 record with four complete games and two shutouts.

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif) - osu player photoOregon State senior Brianne McGowan was named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 27th-Apr. 2nd, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Tuesday.

McGowan, a two-time All-American and the 2005 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, threw 28 of a possible 33 innings for the Beavers last week, including every pitch in Oregon State’s three conference games.

Highlighting her week in the circle was a 6-0 victory over University of California – a rematch of last season’s NCAA Super Regional – in which she pitched a complete game shutout for her 92nd career victory.

Linfield Names Ian Lefebvre New Men's Soccer Head Coach

Lefebvre (pronounced La-FAY-vor) brings nine years of college coaching experience to Linfield, most of it spent at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash.

(McMINNVILLE) - coach photoLinfield College has hired Ian Lefebvre as men’s soccer coach, director of athletics Scott Carnahan announced Monday.

Lefebvre, 30, becomes the 16th coach in program history. He replaces Eric Watson, who resigned in December to take a coaching position on the East Coast.

Watson compiled a 62-24-10 record in five seasons as Wildcats coach.

Oregon's Salling Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week

Saturday, Salling was a perfect 3-for-3, all singles, with an RBI as the Ducks shutout the Cardinal, 8-0.

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ) - Salling photoOregon freshman Jenn Salling has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for Mar. 27th-Apr. 2nd, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Salling was all over the basepaths for the 12th-ranked Ducks last week, playing a major part in Oregon’s 2-1 start to Pac-10 play.

Salling had at least one hit and an RBI in all three games, as Oregon defeated California and split a pair of home games vs. No. 12 Stanford.

Willamette - Corban Baseball Game Moved to 4:00 PM

(SALEM) - corban baseball photoFirst-year head coach Nate Mayben, along with Willamette's head coach Matt Allison, have decided to push the start of Tuesday's baseball game back one hour from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

The two coaches, along with athletic administration of each institution, made the change in order to accommodate class schedules.

The game will be played as part of the inaugural three-game Governor's Cup series with the winner of 2-out-of-3 games receiving the trophy.

Oregon's Brooks Wins Pac-10 Scoring Title

Brooks finished his career as just one of five Ducks ranked in Oregon’s career top 10 in scoring, assists and steals.

(EUGENE) - brooks photoOregon senior point guard Aaron Brooks officially claimed the 2007 Pac-10 scoring title as the league office released its final season statistics on Monday.

At 17.7 points per game, Brooks becomes the first Pac-10 scoring leader from Oregon since Terrell Brandon, who averaged a school record 26.6 points per game in 1991 and was named Pac-10 player of the year.

NCAA Baseball: Oregon State Falls to No. 8 in Baseball Poll

OSU will play host to Southern California (18-12, 1-2) this weekend.

(CORVALLIS) - osu player photoOregon State is ranked No. 8 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN baseball coaches poll.

The Beavers (23-6 overall, 0-3 Pacific-10) slipped in the poll after opening their Pac-10 schedule by being swept at 18th-ranked Arizona.

In the other national polls released on Monday, Oregon State is ranked ninth by Baseball America magazine and Collegiate Baseball newspaper and 10th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.

Oregon State's Jeff Van Orsow Selected to Lott Trophy Watch List

Now in its fourth year, The Lott Trophy is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player.

(CORVALLIS) - osu logoOregon State Defensive Lineman Jeff Van Orsow is among 42 of the top defensive players in the nation to be named to the 2007 Lott Trophy Watch List, it was announced Monday.

Named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.

Van Orsow (6-4, 262, Las Vegas, Nevada) had 48 tackles last season, including 10 for losses.
