NCAA Baseball: No. 5 Beavers Open Series by Blasting San Francisco, 11-1

OSU and San Francisco (9-10) continue their series Saturday at 1:00 PM.

(CORVALLIS) - Chris Hopkins was 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and two runs batted in as fifth-ranked Oregon State beat San Francisco 11-1 in non-conference baseball Friday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Mike Stutes and Anton Maxwell combined to pitch a three-hitter for the Beavers (18-3 overall), with Stutes striking out 11 in his eight innings of work.

On Friday, the Beavers put a pair of runs on the board in the first inning against USF lefthander Aaron Poreda, who figures to be a high-round selection in this year’s major league draft

WOU's Boss Shows Scouts He is Ready for the NFL

At Indianapolis, Boss had the fastest time in the cone drill among all tight ends.

(MONMOUTH) - Former Wolves tight end Kevin Boss improved his professional football stock with a solid showing during a Pro Day workout at Western Oregon’s McArthur Field on Friday morning.

Scouts and coaches representing 13 National Football League teams were on hand to further evaluate Boss, who also worked out at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month.

WOU running back Eliot Vinzant, offensive lineman Ryan Belcher and defensive back Jason Buckmier also worked out for the scouts.

OSU's Watterson Narrowly Falls to Defending National Champion

As a team, Oregon State is 23rd with 18.5 points.

(Auburn Hills, Mich. ) - Oregon State heavyweight Ty Watterson used a takedown in the closing seconds to beat Dustin Fox of Northwestern 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday morning at the Palace of Auburn Hills, but lost in the evening semifinals to defending national champion Cole Konrad of Minnesota 2-1.

Watterson, who will wrestle two matches Saturday, can finish as high as third place with two wins, and no lower than sixth.

He will be OSU’s first All-American since Nathan Coy finished fourth at 174 pounds in 2002, and was the first Beaver to reach the semifinals since Les Gutches in 1996.

NCAA Softball: Oregon Opens Cascade Clash with Pair of Victories

Oregon next hosts Towson in the Cascade Clash on Saturday with first pitch for the doubleheader scheduled at 1:00 PM.

(EUGENE) - The 14th-ranked Oregon softball team made quick work of Utah State in the Ducks' home opener on Friday at Howe Field. Oregon won both games of the doubleheader by 8-0 scores, enforcing the eight-run rule.

The Ducks, playing three consecutive doubleheaders this weekend as part of the Cascade Clash, improve to 26-3 on the year.

Oregon recorded a combined seven stolen bases, and freshman outfielder Neena Bryant hit her fourth home run of the season in the second contest.

#3 Oregon Survives Scare From #14 Miami (Ohio), 58-56

Oregon moves into the second round for the first time since 2002, and will play Winthrop.

(SPOKANE, Wash.) - When Oregon realized it couldn't run away from Miami of Ohio, the Ducks didn't get frustrated. They got tough on defense.

Aaron Brooks scored 18 points and the third-seeded Ducks held off No. 14-seed Miami 58-56 in the first round of the Midwest Regional on Friday.

The pesky RedHawks (18-15) had a chance to tie it late, but Michael Bramos' fallaway 3-point attempt bounced off the front of the rim.

NCAA Tournament: #3 Oregon Holds Off #14 Miami (Ohio), 58-56

(SPOKANE, Wash. ) - #3 Oregon held off #14 Miami (Ohio) 58-56 in their first round Midwest Region game Friday afternoon in Spokane.

Oregon will now face #11 Winthrop who pulled off the morning upset by defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 74-64 on Sunday.

Oregon senior point guard Aaron Brooks hit two free throws with 21 seconds left, and Marty Leunen added two more with 2 seconds left to preserve the victory for the Ducks.
