NASCAR: Stewart Favored to Win Sunday`s UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400

(LAS VEGAS) - Micah Roberts, oddsmaker for Station Casinos in Las Vegas, has chosen Tony Stewart as his favorite to win Sunday's UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson, defending NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion and a two-time winner in Las Vegas, is a close second.

Stewart is favored at 6-to-1, while Johnson's odds to win have been set at 7-to-1.

Champ Car: Champ Car World Series to Partner With Mazda

The season kicks off on April 8th with a new street race run in downtown Las Vegas.

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Champ Car World Series on Thursday entered an agreement with Mazda North American Operations that will see the famed manufacturer become The Official Vehicle of the Champ Car World Series for 2007.

Mazda will be able to showcase its performance cars as part of the Champ Car Pace Car Program, and will have its trucks, SUVs and crossover vehicles featured as part of the world-renowned Holmatro Safety Team, Champ Car’s fast-response safety squad.

MLB News: MLB, DIRECTV Expand Multi-Year Agreement

Deal includes launch of the MLB Channel, carriage rights to MLB EXTRA INNINGS package.

(NEW YORK) - Salem-News.com SportsMajor League Baseball and DIRECTV, announced on Thursday a seven-year agreement that continues carriage rights to the MLB EXTRA INNINGS subscription package of out-of-market games and includes the launch of the MLB Channel as part of DIRECTV's basic package.

Included within the agreement, DIRECTV will be a minority partner in the MLB Channel, and will work with MLB to develop the network, which will launch in 2009.

The MLB Channel will be the first and only network dedicated to providing baseball programming to MLB fans 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a year-round basis.

NFL: Former Saints WR Horn Signs With Atlanta

When he suits up for the Falcons in 2007, Horn will become one of almost 70 players to play for both Atlanta and New Orleans in their career.

(ATLANTA) - Former Saints WR Joe Horn signed Thursday with the Atlanta Falcons.

Horn (6-1, 213 pounds) will enter his 12th NFL season in 2007 with 576 career receptions for 8,501 yards and 57 touchdowns in 151 games (102 starts).

Horn owns several receiving records for New Orleans, including season touchdown catches (11 in 2004), receptions in a season (94 in 2000 and 2004), and yards in a season (1,399 in 2004) and 50 career TDs.

Pilots Ronick Named WCC Co-Pitcher of the Week

Against UC-Davis on March 3rd, Ronick surrendered just three hits in 7.0 scoreless innings during a 3-2 Portland win.

(SAN BRUNO, Calif.) - Portland Pilots junior pitcher Ari Ronick was named the West Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week after picking up two wins in two appearances last week.

Ronick shares the honor with Pepperdine’s Adam Olbrychowski, who also recorded two wins.

In his two appearances against Washington and UC Davis, Ronick gave up just one run on four hits, none for extra bases, in 9.1 total innings.

PSU`s Season Ends With 77-67 Loss to Weber State in Big Sky Tournament

The Vikings finished their season 12-18.

(MISSOULA, Mont.) - Weber State used a 19-2 run over a 6:40 span in the second half to break open a five-point game en route to a 77-67 win over Portland State in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Chinook Wireless Big Sky Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats (17-13) will next face Idaho State (15-13) in Friday’s semifinals.

Senior guard Laura Porter ignited the decisive run with a trey to make it 53-45, as Porter and senior guard Chelsey Warburton combined for 11 straight points as the Wildcats built a 61-45 lead with 7:43 to go.

Senior hurler Brianne McGowan (8-4) earned the complete game victory.

(HONOLULU) - Junior Cambria Miranda and sophomore Stefanie Ewing each hit a home run as No. 14 ranked Oregon State knocked off Liberty University, 4-2, in Thursday’s softball action at the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament.

Oregon State took a quick 1-0 advantage when Paige Lowe singled to left field in the top of the second inning and senior Sherina Galvan came around to score.

The Beavers extended their lead to 3-0 in the third when Miranda hit her team-leading fourth homer of the year in a two-run shot over the left field fence

(SILVES, Portugal ) - University of Portland junior All-American Stephanie Lopez continued her impressive international play by helping the U.S. Women’s National Team to a 2-1 victory over China in the opening match of the 2007 Algarve Cup.

With the match tied at 1-1, Lopez ran onto a ball and nutmegged her defender towards goal She toe-poked a pass back to Lloyd who side-stepped a defender to the inside and cracked a right footed shot from just left of the penalty arc, plowing the ball into the net at the upper left corner from 25 yards out.

PSU Outdoor Track Season Opens Saturday in Salem

The mini-meet begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday.

(PORTLAND) - After a week off and the complications of a canceled meet, the 2007 Portland State track and field outdoor season will open Saturday at the Willamette Mini-Meet in Salem.

The Vikings used last week to prepare for the first meet of the second half of the year, following a decent showing at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships.

The Viking women placed third with 99.5-points, while the men finished ninth with 29-points.
