Yotes Sweep Corban

Ryan Heil went 3-for-6 with four RBI in the twinbill for the Warriors.

(CALDWELL, Idaho) - Pat Burke went 5-for-8 with two doubles and four RBI as the Albertson College baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Corban College, winning Saturday's doubleheader 12-4 and 8-6 at Simplot Stadium.

With the victories, the Yotes (10-2, 3-0 NAIA Region I) extended their overall win streak to six games, and remained perfect at home with an 8-0 mark.

After the Warriors (4-8-1, 0-3) opened Game 1 with a first inning run, the Yotes responded with a seven-spot to take control.

NFL: 49ers Sign Former Raven DT Franklin; Re-Sign WR Gilmore

Franklin will reunite with another one of his Ravens defensive linemen in 49ers veteran Marques Douglas.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - The 49ers continued to supplement its roster by signing unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin from the Baltimore Ravens.

The signing of Franklin at 6-1, 320 pounds indicates that defensive coordinator Greg Manusky will likely run head coach Mike Nolan's preferred 3-4 defensive scheme.

Each of the last two seasons Nolan installed the 3-4, but due to injuries the defense wound up falling into more of a 4-3 front.

NFL: Garcia Heads to Tampa Bay

Garcia joins fellow signal callers Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkowski and Luke McCown on the Buccaneers’ roster.

(TAMPA BAY) - Wasting little time in securing the services of one of last season’s hottest players, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed quarterback Jeff Garcia, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers.

Last year, Garcia led the Eagles to the NFC East title, going 5-1 as a starter and posting a passer rating of 95.8 while filling in for the injured Donovan McNabb.

The Buccaneers signed Garcia on Saturday -- just the second day of the 2007 free agency period -- after Philadelphia allowed the 37-year-old quarterback to become an unrestricted free agent.

McKay, West Salem Seasons Come to an End

For West Salem, their season came to the end with a heart breaking 43-41 loss to Lincoln.

(SALEM) - The seasons for two Salem high school girls basketball teams came to an abrupt end Friday night in the second round of the OSAA 6A state playoffs.

For the McKay Royal Scots (18-7) a dream season was cut short by state powerhouse Oregon City, 80-55.

Anna Marchbanks had a school record 33 points in the loss to the Pioneers.

Oregon Runners Make Final NCAA Qualifying Run

Texas clocked the fastest time of the day (9:31.27).

(SOUTH BEND, Ind. ) - The University of Oregon men’s distance relay kicked off the final weekend of NCAA indoor track and field qualifying with its fourth NCAA provisional mark of the season Friday in the first day of the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

The Duck unit of juniors Michael McGrath (1,200m) and Marcus Dillon (400m), freshman Andrew Wheating (800m) and sophomore Galen Rupp (1,600m) ran a time of 9:39.43 that ranked 12th overall among the 25 teams that were evenly divided between the two races.

Oregon State Falls in Tourney Opener to Texas A&M

Beaver lefthander Joe Paterson took the loss, dropping to 2-1 this season.

(COLLEGE STATION, Tex.) - Oregon State was limited to five hits as the Beavers were beaten by Texas A&M 5-2 on Friday night at Olsen Field on the opening day of the 2007 Domino’s Pizza Aggie Baseball Classic.

The 15th-ranked Beavers (11-3) fell behind by three runs early, then got back within a run before the Aggies (13-1) pushed across a pair of runs in the sixth inning en route to their 12th straight win.

In Friday’s first game of the tournament, St. Louis (1-6) defeated New Mexico (6-9) by a 5-2 score in 11 innings.

Wildcats End Beavers Season, 69-54

Freshman Jasmine Smith led the Beavers with 17 points.

(SAN JOSE) - Oregon State’s women’s basketball season came to an end on Friday night as the No. 8 seeded Beavers dropped a 69-54 decision to No. 9 seed University of Arizona in the State Farm Pac-10 Tournament.

The youthful OSU squad exceeded expectations throughout the year and finished the season with a 9-19 overall record and 4-14 mark in Pac-10 play.

Arizona improves to 11-20 overall and will advance to play top-seeded Stanford at 5:00 PM Saturday.

(ALLEN PARK, Mich.) - Salem-News.com SportsThe Detroit Lions announced Friday that they have traded DE James Hall to St. Louis for their second 2007 fifth-round draft choice and released DT Marcus Bell, DT Tyoka Jackson and TE Marcus Pollard.

Hall (6-2, 280) joined the Lions as a rookie free agent prior to the 2000 season after a standout career at the University of Michigan.

He was re-signed to a five-year deal during the 2004 offseason and then set a career high with 11.5 sacks (74.5 yards lost) the next season.

No. 11 Oregon State Defeats Nevada, Oklahoma State

Oregon State put both games out of reach with a pair of home runs.

(FULLERTON, Calif.) - The No. 11 ranked Oregon State softball team returned to its winning ways on Friday with a pair of shutout victories on the opening day of the CSUF Worth Tournament.

OSU knocked off University of Nevada, 3-0, before topping Oklahoma State, 4-0.

The Beavers (10-5) extended their current winning streak in the month of March to 30 consecutive games, dating back to the 2004 season.
