Oregon Blasts Siena for 11th Straight Win

(SAN DIEGO) - University of Oregon redshirt freshman Jennifer Salling paced the Ducks’ season-best 14-hit attack with a 4-4 afternoon, in addition to scoring three runs and driving in six RBIs, to lead her team to a five-inning 13-0 win over Siena College Friday afternoon in the first game of the Aztec Invitational.

The Ducks scored all the runs they would need in the opening frame to post their 11th-consecutive victory and improve their record to 11-1.

Siena dropped to 0-1.

NCTS: California Native Mike Skinner Wins San Bernardino County 200

Hornaday Jr. finished second, followed by Jack Sprague, polesitter Carl Edwards and Ted Musgrave.

(FONTANA, Calif. ) - The always-exciting NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series provided another thrilling finish at the San Bernardino County 200 at California Speedway Friday night, ending with a Gatorade Victory Lane celebration for Ontario, California native Mike Skinner.

Mark Martin made contact with Ron Hornaday Jr. on Lap 96, relinquishing the lead to Skinner, who was born only a few miles from California Speedway.

Skinner became the first Californian to visit Gatorade Victory Lane following a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at California Speedway.

NASCAR: Jeff Gordon on Pole for Sunday's Auto Club 500

Oregon native Mike Bliss failed to qualify for Sunday's race.

(FONTANA, Calif. ) - Jeff Gordon turned in a fastest lap of 38.765 seconds (185.735 mph) at California Speedway Friday, earning the pole for Sunday's Auto Club 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race.

Gordon is a three-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series winner at California Speedway. He enjoyed immediate success by winning the inaugural Cup Series race at the Speedway in June 1997. He went on to capture the checkered flag in 1999 and 2004, as well.

The driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet will lead the pack, with Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounding out the top five.

Beavers Gain Most Seeds at Pac-10 Wrestling Tourney

(BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ) - Oregon State will have nine seeded wrestlers when the Pac-10 Championships get underway Saturday at the Icardo Center at Cal State-Bakersfield.

There are six seeded wrestlers in each of the 10 weight classes, and six of the Beavers are seeded third or higher.

OSU heavyweight Ty Watterson, ranked fifth nationally by the National Collegiate Wrestling Coaches Association, is Oregon State’s lone No. 1 seed in the tournament.

No. 15 Oregon State Rips UC Davis, 11-2

Former Sprague star Joey Wong extended his hit streak to six games.

(DAVIS, Calif. ) - Oregon State put up five runs in the second inning and five more in the ninth as the 15th-ranked Beavers beat California-Davis 11-2 in the River City Classic baseball tournament Friday afternoon at Dobbins Baseball Complex.

OSU (10-1 overall) collected 13 hits in the game, and Beaver righthander Mike Stutes pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.

Against UC-Davis (3-6), the Beavers got the jump on the Aggies with a five-run second inning that included two-run doubles by Chris Hopkins and Darwin Barney.

Bruins Bash T-Birds for Best-Ever 6-0 Start

Dan Wentzell drove in three runs for George Fox.

(NEWBERG) - Banging out 17 hits in a game that was halted by darkness after five-and-a-half innings, the George Fox University Bruins improved to 6-0, their best start ever, with a 14-2 victory over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in the Yamhill County Spring Baseball Classic on a rain-delayed Friday afternoon at Morse Field.

The Bruins' start eclipses the 5-0 opening by the 1996 team, which came in head coach Pat Bailey's first season at George Fox.

Saturday's tournament schedule, weather permitting, has Corban vs. Pacific Lutheran at noon at Linfield, Concordia at George Fox at 1:00 PM, and British Columbia at Linfield at 4:00 PM.

Wolves Top Griffons, Lose to Warriors

Western Oregon splits baseball match-ups at LC-State tournament.

(LEWISTON, Idaho) - Western Oregon rolled to an easy victory in game one and were then rolled themselves in their second game of the day at the Guardian Plumbing & AC Tournament, hosted by Lewis-Clark State.

The Wolves hammered their way to a 14-4 lead and an eventual 14-9 victory over Missouri Western in the morning game, but were then pasted by defending NAIA national champion LC State in the afternoon contest, 11-4.

WOU is now 4-4 on the year, and will take on Saint Martin’s on Saturday (11:00 AM) and the Warriors again on Sunday (11:00 AM).

Sievers` Last-Second Shot Propels Pilots Past the Dons

(Salem-News.com SPORTS) - Portland sophomore forward Allyson Sievers hit the game-winning shot with three seconds left as the Pilots defeated the San Francisco Dons 54-52 in a West Coast Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at the Chiles Center.

Tied at 52-52 with ten seconds left, freshman point guard Laiken Dollente fed Sievers with a pass in the middle of the key.
