Oregon Softball Heads Down to Sunny San Diego

Oregon kicks off tournament play Friday against Siena at 11:30 AM before returning to face Long Beach State at 7:00 PM.

(SAN DIEGO) - The 25th-ranked Oregon softball team will put its nine-game winning streak on the line this weekend when it faces the University of San Diego at 3:00 PM Thursday, followed by the six-team Aztec Invitational Friday through Sunday at San Diego State.

Oregon, 9-1, swept all five games at last weekend’s Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, with three of the games halted early by virtue of the eight-run rule.

Ducks Women's Tennis Faces WSU Friday

The Cougars are coming off of back-to-back losses to the Arizona schools.

(EUGENE) - The 41st-ranked Oregon Ducks (6-2, 0-0 Pac-10) return to the courts off of a bye week to face No. 55 Washington State (8-3, 0-2 Pac-10) in a non-conference dual meet on Friday at noon in the Student Tennis Center.

The Ducks swept the season series with the Cougars last yeat, winning the non-conference dual, 5-2, and the conference dual match, 4-3.

Warriors to Host 'Yotes in Semifinal Round of CCC Playoffs

On Tuesday, Corban defeated Concordia, 80-50, behind a combined 31 points from junior Jessica Steigleman and senior Tosha Wilson.

(SALEM) - Corban's women's basketball team will host the semifinal round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament against the No. 3-seeded Coyotes of Albertson beginning at 7:30 PM on Friday, inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

In the overall series between Corban and Albertson, the Lady Coyotes lead thanks to winning 16-out-of-28 games with both team picking up victories this season on the other team's home court.

In mid-December, Albertson defeated Corban, 73-69, in Salem before the Warriors rebounded in mid-January and scored a 101-88 victory in Caldwell, Idaho.

Capitol Cup Softball Tournament Cancelled

WU's NWC doubleheader with Lewis & Clark College will be played on Saturday, as originally scheduled, starting at noon.

(SALEM) - The 2007 Capitol Cup softball tournament has been canceled due to the rain we've received this week, plus the threat of additional rain.

The event had been scheduled for this weekend at the Willamette University Softball Field, the Western Oregon University Softball Field and two fields at Jaquith Park in Newberg.

OSU Heads for River City Classic Baseball Tournament

OSU is coming off the championship of the Coca-Cola Classic, held last weekend in Surprise, Ariz.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State goes on the road again this weekend as the baseball schedule takes the Beavers to the River City Classic in Sacramento and Davis, Calif.

The Beavers (9-1 overall) will play California-Davis (3-5) at UCD on Friday at 2:00 PM, against St. Mary’s (Calif.) (6-8) at Sacramento State on Saturday at 10:00 AM, and Sacramento State (1-7) on the Hornets’ home field Sunday at 2:00 PM.

No. 20 Ducks Look to Topple No. 1 UNC, Davidson

The Tar Heels return four All-ACC players.

(EUGENE) - No. 20 Oregon (2-0, 2-0 MPSF) will face the top-ranked team in the nation in the University of North Carolina (2-0, 0-0 ACC) on Friday and Davidson on Sunday.

The Tar Heels are coming off of a double overtime upset win over previously-ranked No. 1 Northwestern.

NBA: Blazers Trade Juan Dixon for Former Oregon Star Fred Jones

“It’s always fun to add such a talented player with such strong local connections to our roster”, said Trail Blazers President/General Manager Steve Patterson.

(PORTLAND) - The Portland Trail Blazers Thursday acquired guard/forward Fred Jones, a former Oregon Duck, and future considerations from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for guard Juan Dixon.

As part of the trade, Jones has agreed not to exercise the player option year of his contract, meaning his current deal will expire at the end of the 2007-08 season.

Jones has played in 39 games this season with nine starts and is averaging 7.6 points and 1.4 assists per game.

McNary Names Rick Ward New Head Varsity Football Coach

Ward graduated from Roseburg High School in 1980 and from Eastern Oregon University in 1985.

(KEIZER) - Salem-News.com SportsRick Ward has been hired as McNary's new head football coach.

He replaces Tom Smythe who announced his resignation last fall.

Ward teaches physical education, and served as assistant head football coach for the past six years.

Ward previously coached at Weber State and Lewis & Clark College.

Clyde Drexler, Laila Ali, Apolo Anton Ohno to Appear on ABC’s `Dancing With the Stars`

Drexler began his career in 1983 with the Portland Trailblazers and retired in 1998 with the Houston Rockets.

(NEW YORK) - In a Dancing with the Stars first, three athletes will dance to the finish in the fourth season of the hugely popular series on ABC.

Among the athletes are a current Olympic Gold Medalist, a member of the 1992 Men's U.S. Olympic Basketball Dream Team, and an undefeated female boxer -- the first female athlete to compete on the series.
