Western Oregon Baseball Heads to LCSC Tournament

WOU played its 2007 home opener on Sunday, topping Concordia 4-2.

(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon University WolvesFor the first time since the 2001 season, Western Oregon will face former NAIA rival Lewis-Clark State.

The Wolves will participate in LCSC’s tournament this weekend, making their first trip to Lewiston since they placed third in the 2001 NAIA College World Series.

NASCAR: Drivers Contribute to Help Florida Tornado Victims

Through his own foundation, Jarrett initiated the donation effort with the NASCAR Foundation matching the initial donation and providing support to the cause.

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) - The Dale Jarrett Foundation announced Wednesday an initiative to donate funds to the Florida Coast to Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross to support victims of the tornadoes that swept through Central Florida in early February.

NASCAR drivers have joined forces with the NASCAR Foundation to generate a donation in the amount of $42,500 dollars for tornado relief.

"Watching the news and seeing the destruction and loss of life caused by these storms has been heartbreaking," Jarrett said.

Oregon Track & Field Takes on Pac-10`s Best in MPSF Championships

(EUGENE) - The University of Oregon men’s and women’s track and field teams return for their final weekend of indoor action as a full squad this weekend in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, hosted Friday-Saturday, by the University of Washington in the Dempsey Indoor Center.

The Ducks have tentatively entered 21 women’s and 27 men’s sprinters, distance runners, jumpers and throwers in the quasi-conference championships.

No. 16 Oregon State Ready to Win Pac-10 Wrestling Title

OSU has nine wrestlers ranked, including seven of those ranked third or higher.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State will be looking for its first conference title in over a decade when the 16th-ranked Beavers (17-2 overall, 8-1 Pac-10) compete in the Pac-10 Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Cal State-Bakersfield’s Icardo Center.

OSU will be seeking its first Pac-10 title since 1994 in a meet that could be the closest in many years.

OSU takes a senior-dominated lineup into the meet, with five of the Beavers taking their last shot at a Pac-10 title.

Cowboys Name Oregon State Coach Special Teams Coach

OSU head coach Mike Riley says he will start a search for Read’s replacement in the near future.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State University assistant head football coach Bruce Read has resigned his post to accept the special teams coaching position with the Dallas Cowboys.

The 44-year-old Read served as OSU’s special teams coordinator during the 1997 and ’98 seasons and then again from 2004 through the 2006 seasons.

Reed is credited with assisting the program’s improvement in all special teams areas and developing some of the program’s best ever-kickers and returners, including current All-American placekicker Alexis Serna.

Pilots Shutdown Concordia

Portland pitching holds the Cavaliers to four hits in a 5-2 win.

(PORTLAND) - Portland Pilots logoPortland senior Adam Kerr went 4-for-5 with two RBI’s as the Pilots defeated the Concordia Cavaliers 5-2 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field.

The Cavaliers mustered just four hits in the game.

Kerr, the designated hitter, also scored a run for the Pilots, who improve to 2-3 on the season.

MLB News: Cubs, Zambrano Agree on One-Year Deal

(MESA, Ariz. ) - Salem-News.com SportsThe Chicago Cubs announced Tuesday that the club and right-handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano agreed to a one-year deal for the 2007 season, thus avoiding arbitration.

Zambrano, 25, owns a 64-42 career record with a 3.29 ERA (357 ER/977.0 IP) in 167 games (146 starts).

He has 865 strikeouts in 977.0 innings of work and has limited hitters to a .224 batting average, including a .217 mark against right-handed hitters.

Look for Duck student-athletes near the entranceways or at the marketing table in the northwest corner of McArthur Court to donate money to help provide emotional and financial relief for the 8-year-old Eugene boy diagnosed with brain cancer and continues to undergo treatment.
