F1 News: Marco Andretti Gets Second Honda F1 Test

In his rookie IRL season with Andretti-Green Racing, Andretti won one race and finished second in the Indy 500.

(JEREZ, Spain) - IndyCar Series driver Marco Andretti will join the Honda Racing F1 Team for a second test in Jerez, Spain on Wednesday and Thursday.

With Jenson Button and Christian Klien focused on developing the first of the RA107 chassis, the team will have completed all meaningful running with last year’s RA106 car, which presents the ideal opportunity for a further test with Marco.

In his debut Formula One test with Honda last December, Marco impressed the team with his obvious potential.

Dunn Named New Head Volleyball Coach at Corban College

Dunn graduated from Corban in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

(SALEM) - Heather DunnFormer assistant volleyball coach Heather Dunn was announced Friday by Corban’s Director of Athletics John Nelson as the new head women’s volleyball coach at Corban College.

Dunn returned to the bench this past season following two seasons away from the volleyball program to focus on raising her two young children.

Prior to her departure after the 2003 season, Dunn served four seasons as assistant coach for the Warriors.

NFL News: Brett Favre Will Return to Packers For 2007 Season

The 37-year-old Favre, the Packers quarterback who has won three National Football League Most Valuable Player awards, will return for the 2007 season.

(GREEN BAY, Wis.) - Brett FavrePackers quarterback Brett Favre will be back in 2007.

"Brett Favre informed me this morning that he plans to return for a 17th NFL season," General Manager Ted Thompson said.

With Favre's return, the Packers hope to continue the success they were building at the end of 2006, when they finished the season with a four-game winning streak to reach the .500 mark at 8-8.

Bruins’ Derrick Jones a Finalist For OSA’s Rutschman Award

Other candidates are baseball player Nick Waechter of Western Oregon University, basketball player Eric Fiegi of Corban College, and track and field athletes Symmonds and Scott Halley of Concordia University-Portland.

(NEWBERG) - Salem-News.com SportsFormer George Fox University baseball star Derrick Jones has been selected as one of five finalists for the 2006 Ad Rutschman Small College Male Athlete of the Year Award, which will be presented at the 55th annual Oregon Sports Awards on Sunday, Feb. 11th, at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton.

Jones, a versatile player from Forest Grove, and a graduate of Forest Grove High School, capped off a four-year George Fox career by being named the 2006 Northwest Conference Player of the Year.

He batted a solid .364 with six home runs, 14 doubles, and 42 RBI as the Bruins’ designated hitter

Willamette, Corban Open Baseball Season on Saturday

The Bearcats will take on Corban three more times this season.

(SALEM) - Willamette Bearcats logoThe Willamette University Bearcats will start their season earlier than originally expected, as the team has added a season-opening game against cross-town rival Corban College on Saturday at noon.

Willamette and the Warriors will play a single nine-inning game at WU’s John Lewis Field, in a battle for bragging rights in Salem.

The addition of Saturday’s game gives the Bearcats a total of 17 home games on their 39-game schedule.

Hawaii High School Football Star to Sign With Oregon State

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon Beavers logoWaipahu High School head coach Sean Saturnio tells Salem-News.com that senior Castro Masaniai has made a verbal commitment to play football for Oregon State University next season.

Masaniai, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound offensive/defensive lineman, visited OSU's campus in Corvallis this past weekend and accepted the Beavers' scholarship offer Monday night, Saturnio said.

In all three losses this season, Oregon has allowed its opponent to shoot better than 50 percent from the field.

(LOS ANGELES) - Arron Afflalo scored 17 points to lead No. 5 UCLA over No. 9 Oregon 69-57 Thursday night to gain sole possession of first place in the Pac-10.

The Bruins (19-2 overall, 8-2 Pac-10) and the Ducks (19-3 overall, 7-3 Pac-10) came in tied atop the conference standings.

The victory avenged UCLA's 68-66 loss at Oregon -- its first of the season -- on Jan. 6th that knocked the Bruins out of the nation's No. 1 ranking

Nurse Leads Oregon Women Past UCLA, 76-60

Noelle Quinn led UCLA with 16 points.

(EUGENE) - Tamika Nurse had 22 points and three other Oregon players scored in double figures as the Ducks defeated UCLA 76-60 on Thursday.

Carolyn Ganes added 14 points for Oregon (12-9, 4-7 Pac-10), which ended a three-game losing streak to the Bruins.

Cicely Oaks scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Eleanor Haring had 11 points.
