(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) - Western Oregon got a near perfect evening from point guard Alex Swerzbin and his Wolves got offensive against the league's top defensive team during an 81-73 men's basketball win over host Alaska Anchorage in front of 1,286 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Thursday night.
The result dropped the No. 6 regionally ranked Seawolves to 13-6 on the season and to 4-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Western Oregon improved to 7-12 this year and is now 2-6 in the GNAC.

(Missoula, MT) - Paul Hafford made two free throws with 26 seconds left in the game to break a tie and give Portland State an important Big Sky Conference road victory over Montana, 70-68.
It was only the second time in 11 seasons the Vikings have won in Missoula, and it improved their record to 6-5 in Big Sky play, 15-9 overall.
The Grizzlies dropped to 11-11, 5-4.

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) - Host Alaska Anchorage broke open a tight game by outscoring Western Oregon early in the second half on its way to a 62-45 women's Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball win on Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The win improved the Seawolves mark to 15-4 on the year and to 5-3 in the GNAC.
Western Oregon dropped to 3-16 overall and 2-6 in league play.

(NEW YORK) - The Phoenix Suns trio of two-time Most Valuable Player Steve Nash, Shawn Marion and Amaré Stoudemire lead the list of 14 players that have been selected by the coaches as reserves for the 2007 NBA All-Star Game which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 18th at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Joining the three Suns as Western Conference reserves are first-time All-Star forward Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz, Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs.
Two Eastern Conference players are also making their initial All-Star appearance as forwards Caron Butler of the Washington Wizards and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic has each been invited to Las Vegas.

(NEW YORK) - The National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Thursday that it will lead a national fundraising program, NTRA Charities – Barbaro Memorial Fund, to raise awareness and money for equine health and safety research in the name of 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands winner Barbaro, whose gallant struggle to overcome a catastrophic injury captivated horse enthusiasts around the world.
One specific target for the direction of monies raised by the Barbaro Memorial Fund will be research projects that focus on laminitis, the painful and often fatal hoof disease that plagued Barbaro for so much of his recuperative period following his injury in the 2006 Preakness Stakes.
The NTRA will organize fundraising initiatives at major racing events and venues in the spring and summer, including the lead-up to the Triple Crown series, the Triple Crown events and other major races during the summer. Read Full Article

(SALEM) - For the second straight week, Corban's women's basketball team appeared in the NAIA Division II rankings at No. 32 this week in the latest coaches' poll.
The Warriors, who are one of two Cascade Collegiate Conference teams in the national rankings, received eighteen votes in the latest poll that was released Thursday.
The Warriors found themselves at No. 22 in the pre-season poll, No. 36 three weeks ago, No. 33 two weeks ago, and No. 32 last week according to the NAIA coaches.

(DENVER) - The Champ Car World Series announced Thursday the postponement of this season's Denver Grand Prix, which was to be run on August 15th.
The event, which has run for the last five seasons around the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver, will be removed from the 2007 calendar due to concerns over time conflicts with the facilities surrounding the temporary street course.
Efforts to find a replacement date that accommodated the Pepsi Center and Champ Car, as well as the University of Colorado Auraria Campus that borders the track layout, were unable to find a suitable date that fit unto the series' race schedule.

Even though the IndyCar Series doesn't hold a race at Daytona International Speedway, drivers say they can pull information from the course and utilize it in their future setups.
On Wednesday, Penske Racing's Helio Castroneves was fastest in both sessions.

(NEW YORK) - Toronto Raptor’s Andrea Bargnani and the Portland Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy Thursday were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for January.
Bargnani, selected first overall in the 2006 NBA draft, has averaged 11.1 points and 3.6 rebounds for the month of January.
Roy, who landed in Portland after a trade from Minnesota (via Boston) in June, led all rookies in scoring (16.6 ppg), steals (1.69 spg) and minutes (34.4 mpg) in January.
