Pioneers Top Western Oregon, 70-59

The Wolves Leada Berkey scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds with three assists and two steals.

(PORTLAND) - The Lewis & Clark College Pioneer women's basketball team defeated the Division II Western Oregon Wolves 70-59 Tuesday evening at the Pamplin Sports Center.

Crystal Castle had her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers built the lead to 14 on a pair of Carrie Centlivre freethrows with 30 seconds left in the first half, and took a 33-20 advantage into the locker room at the half.

Western Mennonite Star Signs to Play Basketball at Corban

Bryan Martin is the second player in two seasons from Western Mennonite to move on to play collegiate basketball.

(SALEM) - Western Mennonite senior Bryan Martin signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Corban College beginning in 2007-08 Tuesday, as announced at a press conference held inside the Fellowship Hall on the campus of Western Mennonite High School.

Martin, a 6-foot-3 point guard, signed his national letter of intent in front of family, friends, coaches, and administrators today to become the first official recruit of the Class of 2011 for fifth-year head coach Justin Sherwood.

Martin began at Western Mennonite last season after two seasons at West Salem High School.

University of Oregon Offers Special $12 Holiday Ticket Price

The special $12 price also applies to reserved seats available in the 300 level.

(EUGENE) - Reserved tickets -- including several hundred seats on the floor and 100 levels -- for the next three Oregon men’s basketball games at McArthur Court have been placed on sale for a special price of $12, the athletic ticket office announced Tuesday.

The Ducks host Eastern Washington on Friday, Idaho State on Sunday and Mercer on Dec. 23rd.

To receive the special price, fans must order tickets on line at www.goducks.com, or print out a coupon and bring it in person to the ticket office in the Casanova Center, or to the McArthur Court box office the night of the game.

Oregon's Garbin, Erickson, Sweeney Collect More Honors

Erickson was named Pac-10 coach of the year last month.

(EUGENE) - The postseason honors continue to roll in for the Oregon soccer program.

Senior forward Nicole Garbin was selected to the Soccer Buzz all-West Region first team and the NSCAA all-West Region second team, while rookie defender Danielle Sweeney was named to the Soccer Buzz West Region all-freshman team.

Also, Oregon head coach Tara Erickson was named West Region coach of the year by Soccer Buzz, the same honor she garnered last week from the NSCAA, after leading Oregon to a 12-6-2 record and a second-place finish in the Pac-10 (6-1-2).

Butler Named Third Team All-America

NSCAA Also Announces All-West Region Team.

(SALEM) - Willamette University senior midfielder/forward Susan Butler has been chosen for the 2006 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division III Women’s All-America Third Team, as selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

She was joined by four Willamette teammates on the NSCAA’s All-West Region squad, as Kelsey Rogel (So., D, Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep) was named to the Second Team and Jessica Lammers (Sr., MF, Concord, CA/Northgate HS), Laura Uhlmansiek (Sr., MF, Woodinville, WA/Overlake HS) and Meghan Anderson (Fr., F/MF, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS) were chosen for the Third Team.

Oregon State's Sammie Stroughter Finalist For Return Award

The other two semifinalists for the award are DeSean Jackson of California and Marcus Thigpen of Indiana.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State University junior punt returner/wide receiver Sammie Stroughter has been selected as one of three finalists for the inaugural Randy Moss Return Man Award, presented by GameDay Consultants and Gulf Coast Events.

Stroughter was selected to the Pacific-10 Conference Second Team this season as a returner and receiver.

He set a school record with three punt returns for touchdowns, including a 70-yard score in the win over No. 3 USC at Reser Stadium in Corvallis Oct. 28th.

Carras Leads Corban Past Pacific Lutheran, 61-44

Corban is now 8-4, while PLU drops to 5-3.

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Brianne Carras scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the visiting Corban College Warriors to a 61-44 non-conference women’s basketball victory over the Pacific Lutheran Lutes on Saturday night in Olson Auditorium.


Corban, a NAIA school in Salem, shot 50 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line, and defensively limited the Lutes to 32 percent shooting.


Carras was tough on the Lutes inside, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the field while also controlling the backboards with nine of her 13 rebounds coming on the defensive end

Rihanna To Headline Brut Sun Bowl Halftime Show

Last week, she was named the Billboard Female Artist of the Year, as well as the Female Hot 100 Artist and Pop 100 Artist.

(EL PASO, Texas) - 2006 Billboard Magazine Female Artist of the Year Rihanna is slated to headline the Helen of Troy Halftime Show at the 73rd Annual Brut Sun Bowl on Dec. 29th at Sun Bowl Stadium.

The Brut Sun Bowl features Oregon State University of the Pac-10 Conference, versus the University of Missouri from the Big 12 Conference.

In 2006, Rihanna has had seven songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100, including a pair of No. 1 singles in “SOS” and “Unfaithful.”

Willamette Beats Western Oregon For First Win of The Year

Willamette improved to 1-8 on the season. Western Oregon fell to 1-5.

(MONMOUTH) - Willamette University earned its first win of the season on Friday as the Bearcats outscored Western Oregon University 41-24 in the second half to turn a three-point halftime lead into a 71-51 rout on the WOU campus.

The Bearcats held a 30-27 lead at halftime, before WOU scored the first basket of the second half to get within a single point.

Willamette countered with an 18-2 run for a 48-31 lead with 11:54 remaining. Willamette completed the run with 14 consecutive points over a 5:07 span.
Maggie Wilkens put an exclamation point at the end of the run by hitting a 3-point basket.

Claire Carpenter of Western Oregon hit a 3-pointer with 11:10 left to pull the Wolves within 14 points at 48-34, but WOU never got closer the rest of the game.

The Wolves shot just 30.3% on field goals during the game (20 of 66), including just 4 of 24 on three-point shots (16.7%).
