PLU Shocks No.5 Willamette, 1-0

The Bearcats return home for games against Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman on Sunday. Both games begin at noon.

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Will_PLU_10806Junior forward Brittney Beitel scored the lone goal of the match in the 62nd minute and the defense made it stand up as Pacific Lutheran shocked No. 5-ranked Willamette, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match played Sunday at the PLU field.

With the win, PLU improves to 8-3-1 for the season and 5-2-1 in the Northwest Conference. The loss was the first for the Bearcats this season and drops their overall record to 10-1-1 and their conference mark to 7-1-0.

Beitel, who was recently moved to forward after playing defense for much of the season, was in the right place at the right time...

Penalty Shot Lifts Wildcats to Victory

With the win, Linfield improves to 2-4-2 in the conference and 4-6-2 overall. George Fox falls to 2-5-1 in the NWC and 4-7-1 overall with the loss.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield_loss_10806Martha Inouye made a penalty kick with 5:09 left to lift Linfield to a 1-0 victory over George Fox Sunday in Northwest Conference women’s soccer.

The Wildcats were awarded the 12-yard penalty kick when Rachel Miles was knocked down with the ball on the end line.

George Fox goalkeeper Jessica Cardwell guessed Inouye would shoot to her right side, but the Wildcat sophomore went to the left corner.

Beavers Can’t Complete Desert Sweep in 2-0 Loss at #24 Arizona

OSU, which had lost only once in its previous 10 games, fell to 8-3-2 this season. The Beavers are 1-1 in the Pac-10 after opening with a 2-1 overtime victory at Arizona State on Friday night.

(TUCSON, Ariz.) - OSU women's soccerThe Oregon State women’s soccer team was hoping for its first-ever road sweep of the desert schools, but 24th-ranked Arizona came away with a 2-0 victory in Pacific-10 Conference play on Sunday afternoon.

“We just came out and didn’t play very well early in the game, more than anything else,” OSU Coach Steve Fennah said. “We put ourselves in a hole. In the second half we played better and created some opportunities. But we really hurt ourselves by not coming out fast.”

Beavers Fall to Stanford, 2-0

OSU next visits the Bay Area to face California and Stanford for the second straight weekend.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU men's soccerStanford senior midfielder Galen Thompson had a goal and an assist to lead the Cardinal men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Oregon State in Pacific-10 Conference play at Lorenz Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers dropped to 5-7-2 overall and have reached the midway point of the Pac-10 season with an 0-5 record.

The Cardinal, which also got a goal and an assist from Thompson in its 2-0 win at Washington on Friday, improved to 5-4-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the Pac-10.

Ducks Clip Sun Devils, 1-0

With the win, the Ducks set a school record with their fifth road victory of the season.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - Ducks volleyballNicole Garbin scored just before halftime and Oregon’s defense stifled Arizona State as the Ducks moved to 2-0 in the Pac-10 for the first time in school history with a 1-0 defeat of the Sun Devils on Sunday.

Garbin, a sixth-year senior from Wailuku, Hawaii, took a pass from sophomore Nicole Dobrzynski and hammered a shot from the right post that deflected off ASU goalkeeper Kim Bingham’s gloves and rolled into the left side of the net.

“(Dobrzynski) used her speed to get up the field through the ASU defenders and made a well-executed pass to Garbin,” said UO coach Tara Erickson. “It was a really nice set up and Garbin timed her break perfectly and scored the goal.”

Corban Sweeps Geoducks

The Warriors will return to the court on Friday, when they host NAIA No. 11-ranked Lady Coyotes of Albertson College of Idaho beginning at 7:00 PM.

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) - Corban logoThanks to a match-high 8 kills by junior Ashley Lange, Corban's women's volleyball team earned its first win over the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College since September 17th, 2005 in sweeping fashion, 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-21), on Saturday.

Coming off its first loss in ten days Friday night versus Northwest, Corban rebounded and made short work of its opponent from the state of Washington ending the match in one hour and 11 minutes.

Huskies Down Beavers

The Beavers return to Gill Coliseum next week to host Arizona, Thursday, and Arizona State, Friday. Both matches start at 7:00 PM.

(Seattle, Wash.) - OSU volleyballRachel Rourke attacked effectively, but Oregon State couldn’t consistently get her ball as the Beavers were beaten by No. 5 Washington 0-3 (14-30, 13-30, 15-30).

With the loss Oregon State falls to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies improve to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Rourke, a freshman hitter, paced the Beavers’ offense with 10 kills and 11.5 points and Brittany Cahoon and Lexie Rathgeber tallied four total blocks apiece to lead the defense.

Nanooks Top Wolves

WOU will next travel to Seattle University on Thursday, and will then host Seattle Pacific on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7:00 PM.

(FAIRBANKS, Alaska) - WOU logoThe Alaska Nanooks earned a season split with Western Oregon, winning a marathon batttle on Saturday night at the Patty Center with a 25-30, 32-30, 30-25, 29-31, 15-11 victory.

With the win, Alaska avenged a loss to the Wolves just two weeks ago in Monmouth. The victory also improved the Nanooks record to 4-11 on the season, 3-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Western Oregon dropped to 6-13 on the year and 4-5 in conference play.

Linfield Sweeps Lewis & Clark

Linfield takes takes to the road for its longest road trip of the conference schedule. Friday night, the Wildcats meet Whitworth in Spokane, Wash. Saturday, Linfield battles Whitman at Walla Walla’s Sherwood Center. The Pioneers are on the road next week, playing at George Fox Wednesday night and at Pacific Lutheran Saturday evening.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield volleyballSixth-ranked Linfield took care of business Saturday night during a three-game Northwest Conference sweep of Lewis & Clark inside Pamplin Sports Center.

The Wildcats (14-1, 7-1 NWC) beat the Pioneers (6-12, 4-4 NWC) 30-25, 30-23, 30-25.

Linfield started slow but steadily built momentum. Big hits by L&C’s Nicki Smith and Sara Kettler gave the Pioneers an early 9-6 advantage.
