Salem-News.com Sports (October 10, 2006 23:41)Garbin Named Pac-10 Player of the Week Salem-News.com SPORTSGarbin, a native of Wailuku, Hawaii, became Oregon's career points leader while leading Oregon to its first Pac-10 road sweep in school history. (WALNUT CREEK, Calif.) - Oregon senior forward Nicole Garbin has been named the Pac-10 women's soccer player of the week for Oct. 3-9, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.
Garbin scored all of Oregon's goals over the weekend, two in a 2-1 win at Arizona on Friday and a third in a 1-0 shutout at Arizona State on Sunday.
Her six points over the weekend brought her career total to 73 (29 goals, 15 assists), passing Chalise Baysa (69 points, 1998-2001) for first place on Oregon's career list.
The sixth-year senior's two goals against the Wildcats was the fifth multi-goal performance of her career, another Oregon record -- the 15th UO mark she owns or shares. Read Full Article

The 4-2 Huskies have more victories already this season than the last two combined (3) and are 3-0 at home.
THE SERIES: Saturday marks an opportunity for Oregon State to win its third consecutive game in Seattle against the Huskies; it would mark the longest streak since the program won in 1945, ‘47, ‘49 and ‘51. Oregon State has won three straight in the series overall only twice (1937-39 & 1945-47).

(EUGENE) - Researchers addressing a cure for cancer will receive a boost from University of Oregon football fans this fall as the school will help facilitate the sale of a limited edition Ducks’ LIVESTRONG baseball-style cap, with proceeds aimed at funding research to combat cancer.
The promotion is sponsored by American Family Insurance in partnership with the Lance Armstrong Foundation and will provide fans an opportunity to purchase a yellow cap, designed exclusively for the Ducks by Nike, for $20, with more than $10 from each sale to be donated to researchers in the area of adolescent and young adult cancer.

(McMINNVILLE) - The Game: Linfield and Southern Oregon meet for the 43rd time on Saturday. Linfield is a member of the Northwest Conference and affiliated with NCAA Division III. Southern Oregon is an NAIA independent.
Last season, Linfield was 10-1 and reached the quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs. The Wildcats have won or shared the last six NWC championships. SOU struggled to a 1-9 record with its lone victory coming against Baker (Kan.).
The Streak: Linfield is seeking its 51st consecutive winning season…the Wildcats need four wins in their remaining six games to extend their own all-divisions national record…the streak began in 1956 under former coach Paul Durham.

(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon road and home matches feature Seattle teams: Western Oregon will travel to Seattle University on Thursday and then return home to host No. 15 nationally ranked Seattle Pacific on Saturday at the Physical Education Building. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 PM.
Alaska divide: The Wolves split a pair of matches in Alaska last week, topping Anchorage on Thursday in three games (30-24, 31-29, 30-28), before falling in a marathon to Fairbanks on Saturday (25-30, 32-30, 30-25, 29-31, 15-11).
Road improvements: Western Oregon picked up its first road victory of the year and almost had two during the Alaska swing. The Wolves are now 1-7 in its away uniforms, 3-1 at home, and 2-5 in neutral site matches.

Salem-News.com Sports (October 09, 2006 23:23)Oregon State Remains No. 10 in West Region Cross Country Poll Salem-News.com SPORTSOSU did not race last weekend; the Beavers had won their 19-team division at the Chuck Bowles Invitational on Sept. 30th in Salem. (CORVALLIS) - Oregon State held onto its No. 10 ranking in the NCAA West Region cross country poll this week. It is the third time in four rankings this season that the Beavers have been in the poll, which is conducted by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
This Saturday, Oregon State will send part of its squad to the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and another contingent to the Cascade Invitational in Portland, Ore.
OSU’s rankings in the West Region poll this season are the first for the Beavers since the school reinstituted its cross country program in the fall of 2004. The Beavers’ win at the Bowles Invitational was their second meet championship after the resumption of the program.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State basketball fans will be able to get their first introductions to the 2006-07 men’s and women’s teams Friday night in Gill Coliseum following the OSU women’s volleyball match at the Beaver Dam Jam.
After the Beavers’ volleyball match, which begins at 7 PM and is against Arizona State, the women’s basketball team will be introduced at approximately 9:30 PM, followed by the men at 10:00 PM.

(BOISE, Idaho) - The Oregon women’s tennis team wrapped up play Sunday at the Jack Taylor Classic, hosted by Boise State University, by taking two matches in the final mock dual against the host Broncos. Overall, the Ducks had a good showing in their first action of the fall campaign.
Oregon was led by Carmen Seremeta, as she went 3-0 over the weekend, defeating WSU’s Amy Toth on the first day, New Mexico’s Lucy Scott on the second, and Boise State’s Stacey Houseley on the final day.

(WOODBURN) - Baylor Falk of Willamette University shot a one-over-par 73 (38-36) on the Oregon Golf Association Golf Course to finish in second place at the Northwest Conference Southern Division Four-Way Tournament #3, hosted by Lewis & Clark College and administered by WU Head Coach Steve Prothero on Sunday.
Falk trailed only medalist Taryn Braseth of Pacific in the individual standings, after Braseth shot a 70 (34-36) to win by three strokes.
