Salem-News.com Sports (September 17, 2006 19:59)Sundodger Invitational: Bruin Women and Men Both 12th in Sundodger Open Races Salem-News.com(SALEM) - Competing in the mid-morning Open races featuring small college runners from all over the West, the George Fox University men’s and women’s cross country teams found themselves in the middle of the pack as both teams finished 12th in the Sundodger Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington, Saturday morning here at Lincoln Park.
The Bruin women compiled 308 points for 12th out of 23 teams in the 6K race, and were 4th among six NCAA Division III teams.
The event was won by Simon Fraser University with 59 points to 71 for Seattle Pacific University, with individual honors going to SPU’s Jessica Pixler in 21:35.

(THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA) - California Lutheran held Willamette scoreless over the final 30 minutes, as the Kingsmen rallied from a 16-6 halftime deficit to take a 26-16 victory over the Bearcats on Saturday at Mt. Clef Stadium.
Cal Lutheran, which has won nine consecutive games and 15 of 16 dating to the 2004 season, improved to 2-0 this season. With the loss, Willamette dropped to 0-3.
The Bearcats fell behind on the game’s first possession, when the Kingsmen drove 69 yards on 13 plays to claim a 3-0 lead. Connor Pearce completed the drive with a 26-yard field goal.

(BOISE, IDAHO) - The University of Oregon volleyball team equaled its longest winning streak in team history by blanking Boise State, 3-0, on Saturday at Bronco Gym.
The Ducks (10-0) matched the 1984 squad for the most consecutive victories and established a new Oregon record for wins to start a season by downing the Broncos (6-6) 30-12, 30-21 and 30-28.
Boise State battled relentlessly in Game 3, but couldn’t overcome Oregon’s size and depth advantage.

Salem-News.com Sports (September 16, 2006 21:39)Oregon State’s Gillis Leads Wolverine Intercollegiate Salem-News.com SPORTSGillis shot a 7-under 135 Saturday, two strokes better than Garrett Jones of Wisconsin and Peter Malnati of Missouri. (ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN) - Oregon State senior golfer Mitch Gillis leads the season-opening Wolverine Intercollegiate by two strokes heading into Sunday’s final round, and the Oregon State men’s golf team is tied for third in the competition, six strokes back.
If Gillis can earn his first collegiate victory tomorrow, then his incredible summer run in amateur play will have carried over to the college season. In the past few months, he won the 2006 Oregon Amateur, Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship and the PNGA Public Links Championship.
Gillis fired a 6-under 65 in the first round (which ties the fourth-best single-round score in Oregon State history), followed by a 1-under 70 in the afternoon’s second round.

(ABILENE, TEXAS) - Quarterback Jordan Neal passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead seventh-ranked Hardin-Simmons to a 21-6 non-conference victory over No. 11 Linfield Saturday night at Shelton Stadium.
Neal passed for 281 yards, completing 19 of 27 attempts. The Cowboys (2-0) dealt Linfield (0-2) its second straight defeat to begin the 2006 season and third overall, including a season-ending loss in last year's NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
Though they outgained the Cowboys 229-161 in the first half, the Wildcats had only six points to show for it. Linfield then went scoreless over the final two periods.

(NEWBERG) - Taking on their only NCAA Division II opponent of the season, the George Fox University Bruins got off to quick starts in three of the four games played but could not sustain that early success, eventually dropping a 3-1 decision to the Dixie State College of Utah Rebels in a non-conference women’s volleyball match Saturday at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.
The Bruins fell 24-30, 18-30, 30-28, 22-30 to the Rebels, who are in their first year of competition as a four-year school after many years as a junior college.

The visiting Cavaliers scored four goals in the first 30 minutes of the game, as Jessica Ramback scored back-to-back goals in the opening twelve minutes.

Salem-News.com Sports (September 16, 2006 18:08)No. 10 ‘Cats sweep Whitworth Salem-News.com SPORTSLinfield plays Whitman in its second NWC match at an early start of 5:00 PM on Saturday (McMINNVILLE) - Tenth-ranked Linfield struggled and surged to a Northwest Conference season-opening sweep of Whitworth Friday night.
Scores were 30-26, 30-23, 30-21 and it was over in less than 90 minutes, but it was not that easy.
Whitworth challenged repeatedly but seemed to self-destruct with errors each time the Pirates got close. They finished with 32 attack errors to Linfield’s 19 and had an attack percentage of .082, 70 points under Linfield’s .152.
