Five Duquesne Basketball Players Shot After School Dance

This type of situation has never occurred before on Duquesne's campus.

(PITTSBURGH, PA) - At approximately 2:00 AM Sunday, five Duquesne University basketball players were injured in a shooting incident on campus after a dance.

Two of the students were treated at local hospitals and released, and three remain hospitalized.

The City of Pittsburgh Police Department is investigating the incident.

Campus Police are cooperating with the City, and believe the shooter, who fled the scene, was not a Duquesne student.

Willamette Remains Undefeated, Down #22 Whitworth, 3-1

Willamette will play its third consecutive road game on Saturday, at Lewis & Clark College.

(SPOKANE, WASHINGTON) - Soccer ball artThe Willamette University women's soccer team gave up an early goal, but rallied for three goals later in the first half on its way to defeating Whitworth College, 3-1, in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday.

The Bearcats remained undefeated at 5-0-1 and 2-0 in the NWC.

Whitworth, ranked 22nd in this week's NCAA Division II Poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), fell to 3-1-1, 1-1 in the conference.

Oregon Hangs on For Fourth Win in a Row

The Ducks return home for the first time in nearly a month to host Nevada Friday at 7:00 PM.

(CHENEY, WASHINGTON) - Ducks women's soccerTiffany Smith scored in the 11th minute and Emily Zaler made seven saves as Oregon hung on to defeat Eastern Washington 1-0 Sunday in the Ducks’ first ever visit here.

The win was Oregon’s fourth in a row, raising the team’s record to 4-3-0. The Eagles fell to 1-6-1 on the season.

Smith, playing in just her second game of the year after missing the first three weeks recovering from off-season ankle surgery, received a pass from Nicole Garbin and wheeled and fired from eight yards out for the game’s lone score.

Oregon State Golfer Mitch Gillis Wins Wolverine Intercollegiate

Gillis has been on an amazing roll since early this summer, as he won three major Northwest amateur events: the 2006 Oregon Amateur, the Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship and the PNGA Public Links Championship.

(ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN) - OSU's Mitch GillisOregon State senior golfer Mitch Gillis won the season-opening Wolverine Intercollegiate by two strokes, posting his first college victory and continuing an impressive series of results, at the University of Michigan Golf Course on Sunday.

Though he shot a 1-over 72 today, it was enough for Gillis (Williams Lake, B.C.) to maintain the two-shot lead that he started the day with. He finished with a 6-under-par 207 (65-70-72). The 207 ties for the fourth-lowest score in school history.

Vikings Three First Half Goals Enough to Beat Wolves, 3-0

Western Oregon will next travel to Ellensburg to take on Central Washington on Wednesday (3:00 PM), and will then return home to battle Simon Fraser in a non-conference match-up on Friday (3:00 PM).

(MONMOUTH) - WOU logoWestern Washington scored all three of its goals during a 21-minute span in the first half, cruising to a 3-0 women’s soccer victory over Western Oregon on Sunday afternoon at the WOU Soccer Field.

The victory improved WWU’s record to 6-2 on the season, and also gave them a win in their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference match of the year. Western Oregon dropped its second straight match to fall to 4-3-1 on season, and they are now 0-2 in GNAC action.

Teams participating are: Oregon State, Boise State, Colorado, Denver, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Long Beach State, Nevada, Oregon, Portland, Portland State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Washington State.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU golferUpcoming — The Oregon State women’s golf team gets the 2006-07 season underway by hosting its own Salbasgeon Suites Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Club this week.

Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday with a shotgun start, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday, which will have set tee times.

The Course — Trysting Tree Golf Club, located in Corvallis, is a par-72 course that measures 6,271 yards.

#13 Central Washington Fends Off Western Oregon, 3-1

(ELLENSBURG, WASHINGTON) - WOU VolleyballJunior Stephanie Powell had a career-high 23 kills and added 16 digs to help lead Central Washington to a 30-32, 31-29, 33-31, 30-28 victory over visiting Western Oregon on Saturday night at Nicholson Pavilion.

The 13th-ranked Wildcats (13-1, 4-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) extended their home win streak to 28 matches with the victory, and dodged the upset bid from a very strong defensive squad in Western Oregon (3-11, 1-3 GNAC).

Each game was close, as neither team was ever able to pull away from the other. In the opening game, Central Washington led 26-22 before Western Oregon scored six straight points to go in front by two.

Willamette next plays on Friday, when Pacific University comes to Cone Field House for a Northwest Conference match. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

(SALEM) - Willamette University logoWhitworth College rallied to defeat Willamette University, 3-2, in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Cone Field House.

Whitworth moved to 2-11 on the season, 1-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 3-8 overall, 0-2 in the NWC.

The first three games were decided by identical 30-24 margins, with Willamette winning the first and third contests and Whitworth taking the second.
