4-1-1 Wolves open GNAC play with No. 6 Falcons

Western Oregon picked up three wins last week, running its win streak to four straight, while moving to 4-1-1 on the season.

(MONMOUTH) - WOU logoWith wins over Warner Pacific (4-0), Lewis & Clark (2-1) and Albertson (3-2, ot) WOU now grids for No. 6 nationally ranked Seattle Pacific, this Wednesday (4:00 PM) at the WOU Soccer Field.

The Wolves will also host Western Washington in another Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Sunday (Sept. 17), at 1:00 PM.

Pacific Coast Classic: Bruins Sweep Whittier but Drop Thriller to CMS on Classic’s Day 2

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - George Fox VolleyballAfter sweeping the Whittier College Poets 3-0, the George Fox University Bruins pushed the host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas down to the wire before dropping a 3-2 thriller on the final day of play in the Pacific Coast Classic women’s volleyball tournament here Saturday.

The Bruins rolled past the Poets 30-10, 30-21, 30-25 in a match played at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, then switched to nearby Claremont’s gym where they fell 30-24, 27-30, 30-27, 24-30, 15-11. George Fox was 2-2 in the tournament, having beaten Chapman University 3-1 before losing to Pomona-Pitzer 3-1 on Friday.

Former OSU Softball Standouts Help East Coast Team Win Big

Lisa Allen and Tarrah Beyster Help New England Riptide Win National Pro Fastpitch Championship.

(STRATFORD, Ct.) - Tarrah Beyster and Lisa AllenFormer Oregon State softball standouts Lisa Allen and Tarrah Beyster helped their professional team, the New England Riptide, win the 2006 National Pro Fastpitch Championship. Allen and Beyster’s New England squad squared off against Adrienne Alo’s Connecticut Brakettes’ team for the title.

Allen and Beyster completed their first year as part of New England’s first ever championship team. Beyster has played on three different NPF teams – New England Riptide, Omaha Comets, and Arizona Heat.

Game Three - No. 15 Oklahoma at No. 18 Oregon - Kick-off is set for 12:30 P.M. at Autzen Stadium

(EUGENE) - Oregon Ducks footballThe University of Oregon football team (2-0, 1-0 Pacific-10 Conference) returns home this week to face a foe that has become familiar over the past two seasons — the Oklahoma Sooners (2-0).

It’s Oklahoma’s second consecutive contest vs. a Pac-10 team as the Sooners broke out in the second half to defeat Washington, 37-20, in Norman last week.

This is the third straight season that the Ducks have squared off with Oklahoma, falling 31-7 in Norman in 2004 before dropping a close decision (17-14) in the 2005 Holiday Bowl.

Lady Ducks Remain Perfect After Nipping San Diego State

The Ducks, who played their final home non-conference match of 2006, play at the University of Portland on Tuesday.

(EUGENE) - Ducks VolleyballThe University of Oregon volleyball team withstood its toughest challenge of the season Saturday night before securing a five-set win over San Diego State at McArthur Court.

The Ducks (7-0) remained unbeaten by nipping the Aztecs (4-5), 30-24, 25-30, 30-22, 20-30 and 15-6.

“We came out really focused and rallied together as a team,” freshman middle blocker Sonja Newcombe said of the Ducks’ fifth-game performance. “We got into a good rhythm.”

Zerzan Finishes in Third Place for Willamette Women at Pier Park Preview

The next action for Willamette's cross country teams will be on Saturday, Sept. 30th, when they host the Willamette Invitational. The event will be held at Bush's Pasture Park.

(PORTLAND) - Willamette runnerSarah Zerzan led the Willamette University cross country team by taking third place at the Pier Park Preview, hosted by the University of Portland on Friday.

Zerzan's time on the 5-kilometer course was 18:24.28, as she finished behind only University of Oregon runners Keara Sammons (17:49.25) and Zoe Nelson (17:56.57).

Zerzan led a strong effort by the Bearcats, which included five Top 15 finishers out of 53 entrants on the women's side, plus five runners in the Top 25 in the men's race.

McGraw Triples Again, But Warriors Fall in Five to Eagles of Northwest

The Warriors will return to conference action on Friday, Sept. 15th, when they travel north to Portland for a match-up with Concordia beginning at 7:00 PM.

(SALEM) - Corban's Jessica McGrawSophomore Jessica McGraw recorded her second triple-double of the week thanks to 12 kills, a match-high 28 assists, and 19 digs, but it was not enough as Corban's women's volleyball team dropped a heart-breaker, 3-2 (18-30, 28-30, 30-25, 30-22, 10-15), to the Eagles of Northwest on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, McGraw posted her first career triple-double (10 kills, 16 assists, and 11 digs) versus her former teammates from cross-town neighbor Willamette University.

Willamette Falls to Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne on Second Day of Pacific Coast Classic

The Lady Bearcats, now 3-6 on the season, plays its next match on Friday, Sept. 15th, against Whitman College. Match time for the Northwest Conference contest is set for 7:00 PM at Cone Field House.

(POMONA, CA) - Head Coach at Willamette, Tricia WrightWillamette University lost both of its matches on Saturday at the Pacific Coast Classic, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Statistics are not available at this time.

Pomona-Pitzer defeated Willamette, 3-1, in the Bearcats' first match of the day. The Sagehens oulasted the Bearcats, 30-27, 29-31, 30-14, 30-22.

In Willamette's second match of the day, the Bearcats were defeated by the University of La Verne in three games. The Leopards won 30-23, 30-17, 30-19.

Gustavus Adolphus Downs Bearcats, 35-7

Willamette plays at California Lutheran University on Saturday, Sept. 16th. Game time in Thousand Oaks, Calif. is set for 1:00 PM.

(SALEM) - Willamette logoGustavus Adolphus College recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and scored two plays later, as the Golden Gusties took an early lead on their way to a 35-7 victory over Willamette University on Saturday at McCulloch Stadium.

The game was the season opener for Gustavus Adolphus.

Willamette dropped to 0-2 on the season.
