Ducks Weekly Volleyball Digest

The Ducks (5-0, 0-0) return home to McArthur Court for a quick weekend set of non-conference matches against Fresno State and San Diego State. Oregon battles the Bulldogs on Friday at 7:00 PM, followed by a tilt against SDSU on Saturday at 7:00 PM.

(EUGENE) - Ducks volleyball playersTHE WEEK THAT WAS: Oregon went unbeaten during its first road trip of 2006, defeating Long Beach State (ranked No. 17 by CVU.com) on Aug. 30th before winning the Freemont Investment & Loan Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge with victories over the host Matadors and Utah State.

ABOUT THE DUCKS: The Oregon volleyball team welcomes seven newcomers and returns six players from last season’s squad, which finished 12-18 overall, 1-17 in the Pac-10 Conference.

Western Oregon Weekly Volleyball Digest

The Lady Wolves next game in Thursday at Western Washington. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.

(MONMOUTH) - WOU VolleyballNow it’s serious: With 10 non-conference matches and two long trips under its belt, the Western Oregon volleyball team will open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play with.....another long trip, this time via bus to Bellingham to take on Western Washington.

The Wolves will battle the Vikings on Thursday, and will follow that with their first home match of the year on Saturday against Saint Martin’s. Both matches start at 7:00 PM.

Western Oregon Weekly Football Digest

The Wolves travel to take on national powerhouse Linfield on Saturday. Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM.

(MONMOUTH) - WOU stadiumBearcat blanking: For the second season in a row, the Western Oregon football team opened the season with a shutout of nearby Willamette, this time claiming a 42-0 victory on Saturday night at McCulloch Stadium in Salem.

Eliot Vinzant rushed for 174 yards and the Wolves scored on five straight possessions to begin the season at 1-0.

Oregon State Signs Vojin Sivlar of Serbia; Two Others Leave Team

The Beavers will be looking to improve upon an injury-plagued 2005-06 season that saw them finish 13-18 overall and 5-13 in the Pac-10 (tied for eighth).

(CORVALLIS) - OSU BasketballThe Oregon State men’s basketball roster has undergone two subtractions and one addition over the last month, as walk-on point guard Brett Casey informed the coaches that he intends to concentrate on baseball, followed by a decision to send letter-of-intent signee Calvin Haynes to a prep school in 2006-07.

The Beavers have filled the void by signing Vojin Sivlar, a point guard from Smederevo, Serbia, to a financial aid agreement, head coach Jay John announced Tuesday.

The Utah fell out of the Power 25 after UCLA clobbered the Utes 31-10. California dropped out of the top 10 to #23 after losing to Tennessee 35-18. The Vols leaped into the Power 25 to #17 with the win.

Bearcats Score Twice in Second Half to Defeat CSU-East Bay, 2-1

Willamette, which outscored Buena Vista University (Iowa), 8-0, on Saturday, has outscored its first two opponents, 10-1.

(SALEM) - Willamette logoWillamette University rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Cal State University-East Bay, 2-1, at Sparks Field in Salem, on Sunday.

Susan Butler scored the tying goal when she headed in a rebound at 64:36 and Kelsey Priest scored the winning goal on an 18-yard shot from the left side of the field at 71:46.

East Bay scored first when Willamette goalie Kari Woody was forced to clear the ball under pressure and Carissa Martin hauled in the loose ball for CSU-East Bay about 30 yards out.

Beavers Weekly Football Notebook

Up next for the Beavers (1-0) are the Boise State Broncos (0-1) Thursday in Boise, ID. Kickoff is set for 4:30 PM PDT, and can be seen on ESPN.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU SportsTHEME: The final game in what has been an entertaining four-game non-conference series takes place at Bronco Stadium Thurs., Sept. 7th. Every game of the four-game set has been nationally televised.

The Beavers enter the game looking to snap a four-game non-conference regular season road losing streak that dates back to a 35-3 victory at Temple Sept. 5th, 2002. One of those four losses was at Boise State, 53-34, Sept. 10th, 2004. Boise State has won 46 of its last 48 games at home.

THE SERIES: Oregon State has a 4-1 advantage in the series, but has struggled in Boise. BSU scored a 53-34 victory during the 2004 season while the Beavers posted a hard fought 37-30 win over then I-AA BSU during the 1989 season.

Ducks Add Georgia, Colorado to Future Football Schedule

The football schedule additions follows a previous announcement from last December that has Oregon traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., for its first-ever meeting with the Tennessee on Sept. 11th, 2010, followed by a return trip to Eugene by the Volunteers on Sept. 14th, 2013.

(EUGENE) - Ducks logoThe University of Oregon has secured home-and-home agreements with two intersectional football opponents to play between 2014-2017, according to an announcement by Athletics Director Bill Moos.

The Ducks will face Georgia and Colorado in Autzen Stadium as well as on the road, beginning with the Buffaloes’ visit to Eugene in 2014. Oregon will follow that up with a home game against Georgia in 2015. Under the agreement, the Ducks would return the visits to Athens, Ga., in 2016 and Boulder, Colo., in 2017.

Colorado College Tops Linfield, 2-1

Linfield completes its pre-Northwest Conference schedule on and makes its home debut against Cal State-East Bay Sunday at 2:30 PM.

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) - Linfield's Nick PowersLinfield’s men’s soccer team sustained its first loss of the season Monday at Colorado College, 2-1 in a nonconference game.

In a sense, it was a triple loss for the Wildcats. Besides the game on the field:

Linfield’s six-game winning streak dating to last October was ended.
